3 SYSTEM SOFTWARE It is term referring to any computer software which manages and controls the hardware so that application software can perform a task. Some examples are as following: Operating system Language Translator Utility software etc. OPERATING SYSTEM It is an interface between the user and hardware. Example: Windows: Designed by MICROSOFT corporation. Ex: Windows 10, windows 8.1, windows 8, windows 7, windows 7eternity, windows server.

4 Android Android: It is an open source software it is designed and owned by google corp. Ex: Alpha(1.0),Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Jellybean, kikat,lollipop(5.0),marshmallow(6.0)etc. Macintosh Macintosh :It is a Apple corporation product. Ex: Yosemite Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks.

5 Linux Linux: Linus Torvalds has developed Linux O.S It is not associated with any company It is the software on a computer that enables applications and the computer operator to access the devices on the computer to perform desired functions.it is an open source software. Ex: ubntu, redhat, fedora, opensuse, archlinux,backtrack etc Unix Unix: UNICS ( Uniplexed information and computing system)it is written in c programming language. UNIX is multi user OS contains shell Programming.

6 Translator It is used to convert source code into object code. Classification of Translator ASSEMBLER It accepts a program in assembly level language (Mnemonics codes) and converts into machine level language Assembly Assembler Machine code

7 INTERPRETER It accepts a program in line by line in high level language (Mnemonics codes) and converts into machine code. 8 Utility software It is a type of system software that allows a user to perform maintenance type tasks, usually related to managing a computer its devices, or its programs. Example: Antivirus Disk defragmentation Device driver Device Drivers Device Drivers: A device driver is a program that controls a particular type of device that is attached to your computer.

9 ANTIVIRUS Antivirus: It is a utility software that is used to protect from malware or malicious software. Example: Mcafee, Kaspersky, Avira, Panda, Avast, etc.

10 DISK DEFRAGMENTATION Disk Defragmentation: Disk Defragmenter rearranges fragmented data so your hard disk can work more efficiently. It is a utility in Microsoft Windows designed to increase access speed by rearranging files stored on a disk to occupy contiguous storage locations, a technique called defragmentation. Application software Application software is a program or group of programs designed for end users. Application software is a subclass of computer software that employs the capabilities of a computer directly and thoroughly to a task that the user wishes to perform. 12 Vertical Software: Software which are developed for particular organization are known as vertical software. Example: Finacle, MIBS,BaNCS etc. Some Other Terms in Application Software Shareware: It is a trial version software, and also known as trial ware, demo ware. Example: antivirus

13 Freeware: It is a total free of cost software. It does not require any payment or licensing fee. Example: WEB BROWSER, VLC MEDIA PLAYER, etc OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE: It is a software that is freely available to anyone in a form that can be easily modified. Example: UNIX, Linux, Ubuntu, android, web browser etc.

14 Proprietary software: It is also known as close source, non-free software and it is apposite of open source software that source code cannot be modified. EX: IOS etc. Application suite: It is a collection of personal productivity software such as word processor, spreadsheet, database etc. Example: MS OFFICE etc.
