3 (b) setw in C++ can be used to display data in tabular form. Consider a program that has variables x1, x2, x3 and y1, y2, y3 with values as follows: x1:100, x2:30, x3:45, y1:80, y2:1000, y3:10000 Use the manipulator setw to write output statements displaying x1, x2 and x3 on one line and y1, y2, y3 on the next line with each pair of values being properly aligned. (c) Consider the following C++ declarations and statements (5 marks) int x; int y; float z; x=7; y=2; z=5; Give the output of the following statements with proper explanation of the result. i. cout<<x%y<<endl; ii. cout<<z%y<<endl; iii. cout<<(int)z%y<<endl; iv. cout<<(int)(z%y)<<endl; (d) (e) Write an equivalent while loop for the following loop for (int i=0, sum=0; i<=20; i=i+2) sum + = i; How many times will the following C++ loop execute? int s=0, i=0; while(i++<5) s+=i; (4 marks) (3 marks) (1 mark) Page 3 of 9

5 QUESTION 2: (25 MARKS) (a) i) Define an Array X of 10 doubles and set all of them to 1.0. ii) Assume Y is an array of N integers. Find the sum of the first and last entries and assign the value to the third element. iii) Write C++ code to print out an array of doubles of size N. iv) Write C++ code that multiplies each element of an array by 2, storing back the value in the array at the element position. v) Write C++ code that adds up all elements in an array. vi) Write C++ code to find the maximum of elements in an array. (b) ( marks) i) Give two advantages of using functions to modularise a program? (2 marks) ii) Write a function that takes a real number of ounces (representing the weight of a letter) and returns an integer number of cents, which represents the cost of mailing the letter. The rules for calculating the cost are as follows: a. If the weight is less than or equal to 1 ounce, the cost is 33 cents b. If the weight is greater than 1 ounce but less than or equal to 1.5 ounces, the cost is 40 cents c. If the weight is greater than 1.5 ounces but less than 2 ounces, the cost is 50 cents d. If the weight is greater than 2 ounces, the cost is 30 times the number of ounces Page 5 of 9
6 (c) (4.5 marks) i) Briefly explain the difference between passing parameters by value and passing parameters by reference. ii) Give the output of the following program. (3 marks) int main() { int a, b, c; a=2; b=3; c=4; c = my_function(a,b,c); cout<< In main, a= <<a<< b= <<b<< c= <<c<< \n ; return 0; } int my_function(int a, int &b, int c) { a = 10*a; b=42; cout<< In my_function, a= <<a<< b= <<b<< c= <<c<< n ; return a+b+c; } (3 marks) (d) Using appropriate C++ examples, differentiate between a Logical Error, a Syntax Error and a Runtime error. (5 marks) (b) Write a program that reads a sequence of non-negative integers, terminated by -1, from the terminal and writes them in the file myfile.txt. (5 marks) (c) Searching is the process of finding particular element of an array or list. Two common searching algorithms are the Linear Search and Binary Search. With proper explanation and diagrams, explain and differentiate between these two searching algorithms. (6 marks) (d) Bubble Sort is a common sorting algorithm. i.
