Panorama View Introduction Panorama is the view type by which the camera is able to cover the full area that is in front of the camera thanks to its fisheye shaped lens. If the camera is installed in the ceiling and facing downwards then the panorama view can cover 360 degree surroundings. If the camera is installed on the wall and facing sideways then the panorama view can cover the 180 degree area in front of the camera. Panorama view is an attractive function for cases where it is necessary to cover the whole area without missing out any regions, and yet use the least amount of cameras to do the job. Having such wide angle coverage with just one camera requires more pixels per inch in order to be able to fulfill the surveillance objectives. KCM-3911 can fulfill this requirement easily in both wall and ceiling modes of single stream the resolutions 1920x1080 (2MP) and 1280x720 (1MP) are available. By factory default, the KCM-3911 view mode is Single (panorama) and mounting type Wall, which means 180-degree panorama view from the fisheye camera mounted to the wall, using 1280x720 resolution. It is important to notice that the single mode of KCM-3911 is a dewarped image a process by which the spherical distorted image is converted into a flat and rectangle-shaped view with restoring the normal proportions of the objects in the field of view. Original single view of wall mode (this mode is not selectable in user interface of KCM-3911 due to little relation to real application requirements) Dewarped single view of wall mode (available in KCM-3911) 5
How to Demo For following reasons, it is recommended to demo only wall panorama (180 degree view) instead of ceiling panorama (360 degree view): The wall mount video quality is somewhat better compared to ceiling mount. That is due to the fact that the same amount of pixels (for example 1920x1080) has to cover only 180 degree view instead of 360 degree view, therefore there are more pixels per viewable area, resulting with more details under wall panorama. It is easy to set up the wall environment by mounting the camera on the tripod. To do the ceiling demo requires camera to be actually mounted to the ceiling, which is really time consuming effort for short presentation purposes. To demo the ceiling mode while not having the camera in the ceiling results with very confusing image. For inexperienced user the 360 degree view split into two views under single channel might be a bit confusing compared to nice and clean single panorama view of 180 degree wall mode. Hardware setup You would need a tripod that can reach the height of meters. Smaller tripods that cannot reach this height may be placed on the table during the demo. Since KCM-3911 does not have the standard hole to support the mounting bolt of the tripod, you need have to use a custom bolt and nut instead. Step 1: get the accessories - tripod, bolt, nut 6
Step 2: Mount the quick release plate to the KCM-3911 using the custom bolt and nut as shown on the photo. Step 3: turn the pan-tilt head 90 degrees forward. Step 4: Connect the camera with quick release plate to the tripod so that the Ethernet cable connector would be facing up. Caution: The black base of the camera will be hot while camera is powered on! (Please note that it is a NORMAL CONDITION for this model since the base is used as a heat sink and all the camera functions will work normally!) It is recommended to touch the beige surface if you need to adjust the camera. 7
Demonstration Options The performance of the panorama mode can be demonstrated by one of the 4 methods: Web Configurator ACTi Demo Tool v1.5 Software NVR v Standalone NVR with firmware v Demonstration by using Web Configurator Setup page: To do the Panorama View demo, select Single stream mode, and mounting type Wall. These settings are also camera s factory default settings. Since your camera is mounted in straight 0-angle position on tripod (not using the 10-degree Hemispheric Camera Wall Mount), therefore you have to set the Physical Installation Angle value to 0. This way the camera will do proper dewarping based on the newly defined center of the view. Standard live view with WRONG physical installation angle setting (10): See the distorted image due to wrong setting. 8
Standard live view with CORRECT physical installation angle setting (0): As a result, the image is dewarped properly. How to verify if the camera is really installed at 0 degrees and the angle in the firmware is set to 0 degrees too? If the vertical lines of the objects closest to left and right edges of the image are parallel with the edge, then your installation is correct. If the lines are not parallel, then try to adjust the tripod, for example shifting the front leg of the tripod forth or back. By pressing the button you can go to full screen mode if you like. 9
Demonstration by using ACTi Demo Tool 1.5 There is nothing easier than doing Panorama View demo with ACTi Demo tool. Without needing to change any settings, simply launch the Demo Tool and by default the Single View will be demonstrated. If the camera happens to be a hemispheric model, then the Single View would demonstrate Panorama View. For demonstrating better resolution, you may consider changing the default resolution 1280x720 to 1920x1080 on the Setup page of Demo Tool: 10
Demonstration by using Software NVR Before using software NVR, log in to Web Configurator and set the camera mounting type to Wall, stream mode Single physical installation angle 0 degrees. For demonstrating better resolution, you may consider changing the default resolution 1280x720 to 1920x1080. Open ActiveSetup and add KCM-3911 as a channel. Press Get Device Settings. Press Apply and open ActiveMonitor. You will be able to demo Wall panorama by NVR. 11
Demonstration by using Standalone NVR with firmware v1.02 Add the camera by auto search, and set stream mode to single. Go to live view page to enjoy the Panorama view. Useful tips for Panorama View demo Avoid too bright lights on the ceiling Do not point the camera towards the bright window If you need to digitally zoom in to prove the quality of details, please use the center of the image to zoom in for best possible quality 12
eptz View Introduction eptz mode of KCM-3911 works in similar way as optical PTZ function in Speed Domes. As the camera receives commands from remote client, it changes the direction of the view or zooms in or out digitally. The stream coming out from the camera represents current viewing direction of the camera, not the panoramic view. eptz is useful for the cases when the camera is pointed at specific corner of the room (such as the entrance of the room) in normal situation while discarding the rest of the view in order to save bandwidth and storage, and when there is an intrusion (somebody comes in through the window), then the camera can move its digital eye towards the intruder either by manual command of the security officer or by Event Handler system of the camera (available in version v5.05 or newer). For practical applications you may also create several eptz preset points and then join them together with an eptz tour it can all be done within the Web Configurator of the camera. How to Demo Hardware setup Please use the same hardware setup with tripod as in case of Panorama View. Demonstration Options The performance of the eptz mode can be demonstrated by one of the following methods: Web Configurator ACTi Demo Tool v1.5 Software NVR v Standalone NVR with firmware v Demonstration by using Web Configurator Setup page: Go to Fisheye Options and choose eptz stream mode. In the newest firmware it is named Camera Options. 13
Although it is possible to choose among 4 different resolutions up to 4-Megapixel, it is recommended just to keep the default 1280x720 resolution. You may also try 1920x1080 if you are using a bigger monitor and you want to make a good impression. Go back to live view page and press PTZ button. The PTZ panel will pop up. Move it to the side of the screen so that it does not block the video, but do not close it from [X] because it would disable the on-video PTZ controls. After that use the [+] and [-] buttons to adjust the video size to best fit with the monitor you are using. Enjoy the eptz in live view by moving the mouse over video and clicking on the video anywhere you like. Wherever you click, that point will become new center of the view. This is how you pan and tilt. 14
To zoom in or out under eptz mode, use the scroll wheel of the mouse. You may also demo the function of eptz Tour if you like. To do that, you have to create several eptz preset points first (for example left, middle and right ), by first navigating to the desired location by mouse eptz over video and then assigning the preset point by pressing the button on the PTZ window once, then typing the name of the preset point, and finally pressing the button again. Repeat the same steps for all the preset points. Finally, you may create the tour that would include these 3 preset points. Remember to press Save after adding all the 3 preset points. Launch the tour by selecting Tour 1 under Touring Control section. Stop the tour by selecting Disabled under Touring Control section. 15
Demonstration by using ACTi Demo Tool 1.5 After launching the Demo Tool, simply click on eptz tab on the live view page. It will set the camera into eptz mode automatically. Enjoy the eptz mouse control right on the video. To zoom in or out under eptz mode, use the scroll wheel of the mouse. For demonstrating better resolution, you may consider changing the default resolution to 1280x720 or 1920x1080 on the Setup page of Demo Tool: 16
Demonstration by using Software NVR Before using software NVR, log in to Web Configurator and set the camera mounting type to Wall, stream mode eptz, physical installation angle 0 degrees. For demonstrating better resolution, you may consider changing the default resolution 1280x720 to 1920x1080. Open ActiveSetup and add KCM-3911 as a channel, if does not exist yet. Press Get Device Settings for this new channel or for an existing channel. Press Apply to save the channel information to NVR. Go to PTZ tab and enable PTZ function there. The vendor and protocol should be ACTi. 17
Open ActiveMonitor and the PTZ navigation buttons will activate automatically when choosing the channel with the given camera. You may use the navigation buttons to control eptz. It is good to know that it is in fact possible to use USB Joystick as well to control eptz. Please refer to the NVR manual for the choices of compatible USB Joysticks. 18
Demonstration by using Standalone NVR with firmware v1.02 Go to the setup page first. Under basic settings just make sure the camera is set to be in eptz mode. Under Video settings make sure you have the compression settings you really want before pressing save. Otherwise you may end up having poor quality 500K bitrate as default offering by Standalone NVR. 19
On the live view page, you may use navigation buttons to control eptz function. Or you may use on-video control instead. Click on video to pan and tilt, and use mouse scroll to zoom. Useful tips for eptz demo You may pan and tilt anywhere you like, but when you want to demo zoom-in, then use the center of the camera view to have the best quality details With better PC and larger monitor, you may consider using 1920x1080 if necessary. You may use maximum Pan speed in SNVR to move faster. Otherwise the panning might take longer time because in eptz mode user would have to keep clicking at all times in order to keep eptz running and too small steps would be too tiresome. 20
6 VGA View Introduction 6 VGA mode is very similar to multi-channel video encoder, such as ACD KCM-3911 can act as 6 different VGA cameras, each pointing in different direction. For VMS such streams would appear as they come from 6 different cameras. Therefore there will be 1 channel for each of the streams under VMS, total of 6 channels. One of the benefits of 6VGA mode is to focus only on regions that are important and discard the rest of them. It can help save bandwidth and storage space. Furthermore, in VMS it is possible to set different permission for different VGA views. For example the guard can only see the regions 1, 2, 3 and 4, while the manager can see all the 6 regions. If we only had a panorama view, it would be impossible to divide permissions like that. Furthermore, thanks to such arrangement it is possible to set different recording schedules for each of the streams in NVR for example 4 streams are in constant recording mode while the rest of the 2 streams are recorded only when motion is detected. That s not all KCM-3911 has an option to rotate all the 6 VGA regions to any degree you like. This way, it is possible to create the perception of cameras really being in different physical locations and have the best overview of the monitored objects. How to Demo Hardware setup Please use the same hardware setup with tripod as in case of Panorama View. Demonstration Options The performance of the 6VGA mode can be demonstrated by one of the following methods: Web Configurator ACTi Demo Tool v1.5 Software NVR v Standalone NVR with firmware v
Demonstration by using Web Configurator Setup page: Go to Fisheye Options and choose 6 Streams as a stream mode. You will be prompted to stream 1 at first. Use the on-video controls to shift the first VGA region to the desired location. You may also rotate it if you like. Then select stream 2 and adjust its position, too. Do that to all the 6 streams until they are all pointing in different directions. If you only have Web Configurator available, then this is the end of the demonstration for this function. 22
Demonstration by using ACTi Demo Tool 1.5 It is extremely simple - in the Live View page of Demo Too, simply press Multi VGA button and your previously configured VGA regions will appear. Then use mouse PTZ control over video to adjust each of the 6 regions so that they would look like streams from 6 different cameras. You may also press the rotation buttons to rotate each of the regions so that they would look exactly as you want them to be. If you want to speed up the effort of adjusting all the 6 regions, you can use Web Configurator to adjust all the regions beforehand. The camera will remember the regions adjusted by Web Configurator even if you later switch camera to other mode or even turn it off! You may consider preparing all the 6 regions before the beginning of your presentation. 23
Demonstration by using Software NVR Since the camera with 6VGA mode acts as a 6-channel video encoder, therefore it takes up to 6 channels of NVR to show all the streams from that camera. Before adding the camera to NVR, please go to Web Configurator and set it to 6VGA Mode first. Please remember to adjust each of the 6 VGA regions in Web Configurator first so that they would all be pointing at different direction, to give the effect of having 6 different cameras. Then, when adding the channel to NVR, upon pressing Get Device Settings you will see a Channel No field, where the number represents the ID of one of the 6 VGA streams. Keep that number as 1 for this channel. Press Apply to save the channel to NVR. When you have successfully added 1 channel out of the 6, you could repeat the same procedure again for 6 more times, but it is too time consuming. Instead, you can take a good use of the Copy Setting function in order to create the other channels with minimum effort. 24
Keep the Camera Data Target as == Add New Device == and press Apply. You have easily cloned the channel that way. All you need to do now is to change the Channel No to 2, so that this channel would be getting stream 2 from 6 VGA streams. Press Apply. Repeat the same procedure until all 6 channels have been added to NVR. 25
The NVR live view with 6 VGA channels might look like this, depending on the layout you are choosing in ActiveMonitor. 26
Demonstration by using Standalone NVR with firmware v1.02 Before demonstrating 6VGA with Standalone NVR, please go to Web Configurator first to set up all the 6 VGA regions make them all point in different directions. By default, they are all pointing on same direction, so the multi-camera effect in NVR will be poor without pre-adjusting the regions first. Similarly to multi-channel video encoders, it is possible to select the right VGA stream by choosing the appropriate Channel No in SNVR setup. Currently the 1 st VGA stream is being added. For your convenience, you can use Duplicate button to clone one channel of KCM more times. But please note that at this point, they all have the same Channel No, so finally, you must adjust that value for each channel before pressing Save. 27
This is the example of changing the Channel No of the duplicated channel into 2 and pressing Save after that. The live stream of 2 nd VGA will then appear. Enjoy the live view of multiple VGA regions. You may set all the 6 regions this way and bring them all up on the live view. Useful tips for 6VGA demo Take a good use of VGA rotation function during the setup in Web Configurator. It makes a good impression to the customer. Make sure that your NVR has 6 available licenses to demo this function. You may consider showing how NVR can have different user permission for each of 6 VGA streams. You may consider showing different recording schedules for each of the streams. 28
4 VGA View Introduction If you have already read the chapter introducing 6 VGA function then it is really easy to understand 4 VGA as well. 4 VGA mode is very similar to multi-channel video encoder, such as ACD The camera with 4VGA mode can act as 4 different VGA cameras, each pointing in different direction. For VMS such streams would appear as they come from 4 different cameras. Therefore there will be 1 channel for each of the streams under VMS, total of 4 channels. One of the benefits of 4VGA mode is to focus only on regions that are important and discard the rest of them. It can help save bandwidth and storage space. Furthermore, in VMS it is possible to set different permission for different VGA views. For example the guard can only see the regions 1 and 2, while the manager can see all the 4 regions. Furthermore, thanks to such arrangement it is possible to set different recording schedules for each of the streams in NVR for example 2 streams are in constant recording mode while the rest of the 2 streams are recorded only when motion is detected. How to Demo Hardware setup Put the camera on the tripod, as closer to the ceiling as possible. If the tripod is not high enough, you may place it on the desk. It will give the effect as if the camera has been mounted to the ceiling with a bracket. Tilt the camera so that there would be no ceiling appearing in the view of the camera. 29
Demonstration Options The performance of the 4VGA mode can be demonstrated by one of the following methods: Web Configurator ACTi Demo Tool v1.5 Software NVR v Standalone NVR with firmware v Demonstration by using Web Configurator Setup page: Choose 4 Stream in the Stream Mode section of the setup. By default, the 4 regions appear in the central area, close to each other. Since the purpose of 4 VGA demo is to show the effect of having 4 different cameras, it is better to adjust the 4 VGA regions so that they would be further apart from each other. Press Setup button to be able to adjust the location of the regions. Use mouse to drag the regions around. When done, press Apply. 30
Live page: By choosing Media channel numbers from 1 to 4, you can demo each of the 4 VGA streams. 31
Demonstration by using ACTi Demo Tool 1.5 It is really easy to demo the camera by demo tool. Having all the 4 VGA regions adjusted under Web Configurator first, the camera would remember these regions even if you later try other streaming modes. In the live view page of Demo Tool, press Multi VGA button. Demonstration by using Software NVR Having all the 4 VGA regions adjusted under Web Configurator first, the software NVR side setup of 4VGA is the same as the 6VGA, introduced in the chapter 6 VGA View (page 21). Demonstration by using Standalone NVR with firmware v1.02 Having all the 4 VGA regions adjusted under Web Configurator first, the software NVR side setup of 4VGA is the same as the 6VGA, introduced in the chapter 6 VGA View (page 21). Useful tips for 4 VGA demo Keep the camera as close to the ceiling as possible while pointing slightly downwards so that there would be more choices for attractive VGA regions. For example, there are 4 desks in the office, and each of the 4 VGA regions covers one desk. Make sure that your NVR has 4 available licenses to demo this function. You may consider showing how NVR can have different user permission for each of 4 VGA streams. You may consider showing different recording schedules for each of the streams. 32
ExDR Introduction ExDR is ACTi newest technology for wide dynamic range. With the help of ExDR technology it is possible to have both bright and dark objects properly exposed and made very clear and recognizable in the view of the camera. The bigger is the viewing angle of the camera, the more likely it is going to face windows with bright sunlight as well as dark corners elsewhere. Hemispheric camera has the widest possible view therefore it has to have the capability of handling extremely wide dynamic range! KCM-3911 has ExDR function and it is enabled by default. How to Demo Hardware setup Please use the same hardware setup with tripod as in case of Panorama View. Demonstration Options The performance of the ExDR can be demonstrated by one of the 2 methods: Web Configurator ACTi Demo Tool v1.5 Demonstration by using Web Configurator Setup page: Go to Camera Options and set the camera back to Single stream mode with Wall mount type (physical installation angle 0) if it has been changed to something else due to demonstration of eptz or 6VGA. Then click on the Image link on the setup menu. You will see the default value of ExDR to be 64 there. After that, turn off the lights in the room so that there will be dark corners somewhere. Point the camera towards window (brighter than the room) so that the dark corners will be in the field of view. 33
With ExDR value 0 (which means not having any wide dynamic range capabilities) you can barely see the dark corners due to brighter background. When you set ExDR to the maximum (255), you will surprisingly have all the dark areas well exposed while the background did not change at all!! Useful tips for ExDR demo Easy scenario: Indoor, daytime, with closed curtains, and indoor lights turned off - there are some objects between camera and window that are underexposed. Remember to use extreme values 0 and 255 to give the biggest impression, although for real installation the ideal value would be around 64. Remember to mention that the value 0 represents the performance of standard cameras that do not have any WDR capabilities at all. 34
Demonstration by using ACTi Demo Tool 1.5 The power of Demo Tool is the ability to demo major functions with just 1-2 clicks. All you need to do is to point the camera at the scene that contains some dark and underexposed areas. The ExDR function will expose those items. On the Live View page of Demo Tool, click on the ExDR tab. While ExDR level is Low (a typical view of non-wdr camera), you cannot see anything under the table in marked area. When changing ExDR level to High, the camera will be able to expose the items that were hiding in the darkness before. You can clearly see the back bag under the table. Even the wall under the table is very clear now. 35
Edge Enhancement Introduction Edge Enhancement is ACTi technology that improves the edges of all the objects in the field of view, therefore making them much better distinguishable. A sharper edge of an object is also more comfortable for human eye to watch. Also, the Edge Enhancement function can make some text or numbers, such as license plates, more readable. The Edge Enhancement can be tuned in the range of 1 to 255, whereas the default is 104, giving just perfect edge for each object not too soft and not too strong. How to Demo Hardware setup Please use the same hardware setup with tripod as in case of Panorama View. Demonstration Options The performance of the Edge Enhancement can be demonstrated by one of the 2 methods: Web Configurator ACTi Demo Tool v1.5 Demonstration by using Web Configurator Setup page: Go to Camera Options and set the camera back to Single stream mode with Wall mount type (physical installation angle 0) if it has been changed to something else due to demonstration of eptz or 6VGA. Also, please remember to change ExDR back to default (64) if you had changed it earlier. 36
Go to Image section of setup page and you will see Edge Enhancement function there with the default value of 104. Point the camera at some objects that require clear edge for recognition, such as a board with text. Pay attention to the marked region as it is going to change dramatically when we apply different values to Edge Enhancement. 37
Set Edge Enhancement to 0 and go to Live View page to see the view as large as possible. It will look a bit blur, like this one. Set Edge Enhancement to 104 and go to Live View page to see the view as large as possible. It will look normal, like this one. It is also camera s default setting. Set Edge Enhancement to 255 and go to Live View page to see the view as large as possible. It will look very clear. Step back from computer s monitor about 1.5 meters and look at the images again. You will see the big difference! Useful tips for Edge Enhancement demo You may take a screenshot of each Edge Enhancement level just like the ones above, so it will be much easier to compare the effects of each level side by side later. Make sure you have big enough text to point at. The edges of too small text will not improve much with edge enhancement; in fact, it might worsen when the sharp edge of a very tiny object kind of distorts the object itself. It is better to test fixed objects with Edge Enhancement rather than humans or moving objects. A human face with too strong edge might feel unnatural. 38
Demonstration by using ACTi Demo Tool 1.5 Go to the Live View page of the Demo Tool and click on the Edge Enhancement tab. Choose the Soft Edge to demonstrate the capability of a conventional camera. Then choose the Sharp Edge to show the beauty of sharpened image. With the close look you will be able to see the obvious changes in edge sharpening process. 39
2D+3D DNR Introduction As the cameras become more powerful in terms of resolution (such as 4-Megapixel), the physical size of each pixel is getting smaller and smaller, making it more difficult to have the right light rays hit the right pixel, especially under low lighting conditions. The light rays hitting the wrong pixel would pollute the luma (brightness) level of that pixel, resulting with that pixel turning into a strangely brighter dot on the screen. At the same time, a neighboring pixel might become underexposed, resulting with strangely dark dot on the screen. Such weird dots on the screen are called noise. The higher is the resolution of the camera, the bigger is the risk of having noise under low lighting conditions. Usually, such dots are further magnified and become more obvious due to exposure enhancement process of the camera by using automatic gain control. Digital Noise Reduction is the function that is able to analyze the image and identify strange-looking pixels and fix them. While single-frame based DNR (also called 2D DNR) is able to clear most of the bad noise from the image, it may sometimes accidentally clear some true dots, too, that were not noise at all. How to know if the unusually different dot compared to the rest of the background is true image or not? With just single-frame based analysis it is quite impossible to tell. However, when comparing more than just 1 frame it is possible to make much better judgment. If the dot occurs on all these frames regularly, then it is a real object and should not be erased but DNR. The DNR technology that is able to analyze multiple frames is called 3D DNR. The 3D DNR is especially useful in daytime when the camera sees all the details very clearly and the necessity to preserve every smallest detail is really high. ACT is proud to present the technology that combines dynamically both 2D and 3D DNR functions! 40
How to Demo Hardware setup At first, please use the same hardware setup with tripod as in case of Panorama View. Then shorten the legs of the tripod, and put the camera under the desk to create darker environment. Turn off most of the office lights so that the camera would already switch to night mode. It would prove that the lighting conditions are really low. Demonstration Options The performance of the 2D+3D DNR can be demonstrated by one of the 2 methods: ACTi Demo Tool v1.4 or newer Web Configurator Demonstration by using Web Configurator Setup page: Go to Camera Options and set the camera back to Single stream mode with Wall mount type (physical installation angle 0) if it has been changed to something else due to demonstration of eptz or 6VGA. Make sure that both ExDR and Edge Enhancement are set back to their default values (64 and 104). 41
With DNR turned off (value set to 0) it is possible to see how bad the image would look for a standard multi-megapixel camera that does not have DNR at all. By turning off DNR, the 3D DNR will automatically be deactivated, too. With DNR set to level 2 and the 3D DNR activated (camera s default settings) it is possible to see remarkable change all the noise is gone while the objects in the view look very clear. 42
Demonstration by using ACTi Demo Tool 1.5 While having low lighting conditions, a conventional camera might have lots of noise on the video. ACTi Demo Tool can prove with 1 click that the camera is able to clear the noise easily. Click on the DNR tab on Live View page of Demo Tool and the DNR button would appear. You can use that button to turn on or off the DNR function of the camera. This is how it looks when DNR is off. This is how it looks when DNR is on. 43
Useful tips for 2D+3D demo It is recommended to test this function before demonstrating it in front of the audience in order to be sure that the given function has the best possible effect that we are trying to show. Sometimes it may require changing the camera position or adjusting lights. You may also test DNR levels higher than 2.
