1 Cuddeback Troubleshooting Steps for Silver & Blue Series Use the following steps to determine if your Cuddeback Silver & Blue Series camera is working correctly. Before requesting service, follow these simple troubleshooting steps. Many common problems can be resolved with new batteries. We recommend using new batteries for these tests. Quality alkaline batteries like Rayovac, Duracell and Energizer should always be used in the Cuddeback cameras. Defective SD cards can also cause problems. These tests will verify your SD card is functioning correctly. Test 1. Camera Power This test will verify that your camera can turn ON. 1. Remove the SD card (if installed) 2. Remove batteries from camera. Wait 15 seconds. 3. Insert batteries, observing correct battery polarity. IMPORTANT: IN EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES, BATTERIES MAY LEAK FLUIDS THAT CAN CAUSE A CHEMICAL Page 1 of 5

2 BURN INJURY IF INSERTED INCORRECTLY. Below is a picture showing how to properly install batteries into the Silver and Blue Series. 4. After batteries are installed correctly, close the battery compartment door and tighten the 2 thumb screws completely. 5. Observe the LCD display. The camera will display the time on the LCD. Correct Operation: The camera displays the time on the LCD or a Welcome message. If this happens proceed to next step. Possible Problem: If the camera s LCD does not display repeat this test with new batteries. If this test fails with new batteries contact customer support at (920) Test 2. Push Buttons and LCD This test will verify the camera s basic components are in good working order. 1. Press the MODE button to have the camera cycle through each section. 2. At the Date and Time menu use the UP and DOWN arrows to change the time. Page 2 of 5

3 3. Once you have the time set, press the MORE button to get to the date. 4. Use the UP and DOWN arrows to change the date. Correct Operation: The LCD displayed correctly and all the push buttons worked correctly. Possible Problem: The LCD did not display or the push buttons did not work. If this test fails contact customer support at (920) Test 3. Test Camera The Silver & Blue Series offer a TEST feature on the camera that will test all the important steps in one easy location. Press the MORE button to cycle through each of these tests on the camera. 1. Install an SD card into the camera. 2. Press the MODE button until TESTS appear on the LCD, (the little guy walking). 3. Press the MORE button and RESET will appear on the LCD. This will reset the camera back to the factory defaults. You will want to run this test. Press the UP arrow twice to reset the cameras settings. 4. BAT TEST: Press the UP arrow to start this test. This test will display a value from 10 (low) to 99 (high). If the number is below 50, we recommend you replace the batteries. 5. FILTER: This test verifies the camera filter works correctly. Press UP arrow to test, you should see the filter move inside the camera. 6. IR LED/STROBE: Use the following instructions to test the flash on the camera. Page 3 of 5

4 a. IR/BLACK FLASH LED: Press the UP arrow to turn on the LEDs. For Black Flash, you will not be able to see the LEDs turn ON. Use a cell phone camera to view the LEDs. b. STROBE CAMERA: Press the UP arrow to start the test. BUSY will display on the LCD, then the camera will count down from 5 and flash once it reaches SD CARD: This test verifies your SD card is functioning. Press the UP arrow to test your SD card. This test will write a file to the SD card and read it back to verify the SD card is functional. 8. IMAGE: Press the Up arrow to take a still image. You can view this image on your PC or other viewing device to assure it is OK. 9. VIDEO: Press the UP arrow to record a video. You can view this video on your PC or other viewing device to assure it is OK. 10. SOUND: Press the UP arrow to run the sound test. If you talk, you should notice the bars on the camera increase when the camera picks up the sound. Correct Operation: All the tests performed correctly on the camera. Possible Problem: One or more tests failed. If this test fails contact customer support at (920) Test 4. Sensor Test This test will verify the camera s motion/heat sensor is working correctly. 1. Press the MODE button to get to the TEST section. WALK should be displayed on the LCD. 2. Position the camera so you can walk back and forth in front of the camera at a distance of 5 to 10 feet while observing the RED LED. The LED will illuminate as you walk by. (NOTE: When walking past the camera, make sure to completely exit the field of view to allow the camera to reset before walking back across. Remaining in Page 4 of 5

5 the field of view will not activate the camera to sense movement.) The diagram below shows the best walk pattern to test the detection zone. Correct Operation: The RED LED illuminates during this test. Possible Problem: The RED LED does not illuminate during this test. If this test fails contact customer support at (920) Test 5. False Activity Sensor Test This test will verify the camera s motion/heat sensor is NOT falsely detecting motion. The motion/heat sensor needs to be covered completely when running this test. 1. Press the MODE button to get to the TEST section. 2. Cover the motion/heat sensor with a SD card, quarter, or other item. 3. Watch the RED LED for 1 or more minutes. If the LED remains OFF, the test has passed. Correct Operation: The RED LED does NOT illuminate during this test. Possible Problem: If the LED illuminates during this test, repeat this test with new batteries, as weak batteries may falsely trigger motion activity. If this test fails with new batteries contact customer support at (920) Page 5 of 5
