17 Shootout - Why is GE Security technology better? GE Security UltraView uses CMOS-based sensors: CMOS sensors have a higher pixel count than CCDs CMOS sensors produce less electronic noise than CCDs CMOS sensors have 200 times the light differentiation ratio than CCDs ١٧ GE Security

18 What does 200 times light differentiation mean? Current CCD chips are 8 bit processors 256 light steps. CCD can only see pixels 256 times brighter than the dimmest pixel, or 256 times dimmer than the brightest pixel, all other detail is lost. (Okay but umm, what does that mean?) CMOS chips 14 bit processors 65,556 light steps. CMOS can see pixels more than 65,000 times brighter than the dimmest pixel, and vise versa Even without Xposure technology, the camera s dynamic range is already superior to CCD cameras. 19 How images are gathered in today s cameras: Traditionally, CCD s process images as a whole: There is no processing at the individual pixel level Contrast, color and dynamic range are processed all at once Over-exposures and under-exposures are dealt with after the image is taken RESULT: If you compare it to traditional photography, you re fixing the picture in the darkroom instead of in the camera. ١٩ GE Security

20 How Xposure processes images Each pixel is sampled independently, multiple times per second. Correct exposure time is measured for each pixel Pixel s are closed independently when their correct exposure time is met. RESULT: Each pixel acts like its own camera ٢٠ GE Security
