4 Please read these operating instructions carefully in order to use the camera correctly. Keep the instructions in a safe place after reading so that you can refer to them later. Precautions Before using the camera, please ensure that you read and understand the safety precautions described below. Always ensure that the camera is operated correctly. Do not point the camera directly into the sun or other intense light sources which could damage your eyesight. Do not try to open the case of the camera or attempt to modify the camera in any way. Maintenance and repairs should be carried out only by authorized service providers. Keep the camera and its accessories out of the reach of children and animals to prevent accidents or damage to the camera. If you notice smoke or a strange odor emitting from the camera, turn the power off immediately. Take the camera to the nearest authorized service center for repair. Do not attempt to repair the camera on your own. 4
5 Use only the recommended power accessories. Use of power sources not expressly recommended for this equipment may lead to overheating, distortion of the equipment, fire, electrical shock or other hazards. 6 Factory Default Settings To return to the factory default settings: 1) Press the OK/MENU button to enter the menu. 2) Use the Right button to enter the Setup menu. 3) Use the Down button to choose Default Setting and press the OK/MENU button. 4) Choose Cancel to cancel the request or choose OK to return to the factory settings. 6

9 Inserting the Battery 1) Slide-open the battery/memory card cover. 2) Insert the battery by the correct direction until the battery latch locks up the battery. 3) To remove the battery, slide the battery latch and the battery will pop out from the battery compartment. Note: (a) To charge the battery, when the battery is placed in the camera, connect the DV with the computer via the USB cable. The charging LED will illuminate in red color when charging and it will extinguish when charging is completed. Please note that the battery charging will only begin once the camera is powered off. (b) Please charge the battery for at least 6 hours on first use. (c) It is normal for the temperature of the camcorder and battery to 9
10 increase after the battery has been used in a long period of time. Inserting an SD Card 1) Slide-open the battery/memory card cover. 2) Insert the memory card in the correct direction and press it all the way through until a click sound is heard. 3) To remove the memory card, press down the memory card again and the memory card will pop out from the memory card slot. 10
11 Basic Operation Powering the Camcorder On and Off There are two ways to power the camcorder on and off. 1) The camcorder can be powered on by either flip-opening the LCD screen or pressing the power button. 2) The camcorder can be powered off by either flip-closing the LCD screen or pressing the power button. Setting the Date and Time 1) Power the camcorder on. 2) Press the OK/MENU button to enter the main menu. 3) Use the Right button to enter the Setup menu and use the Down Button to move the indication bar on Date and press the OK/MENU button to enter the setting. 11
12 There are three options to select from: (a) On: To activate the date/time imprint. (b) Off: To deactivate the date/time imprint. (c) Set Date: To set the date and time. --Use the Right and Left buttons to move to the preferred item. --Use the Up and Down buttons to change the value. --Press the OK/MENU button to confirm the setting. Note: You can directly press on the Setup icon, Date, On, No and Set time on the screen to access the same adjustments. Formatting the SD Card It is important to format the memory card for first time use. Please note that all the data stored on the memory card will be deleted including protected files, so please be sure to download or transfer those files to your computer before the SD card is formatted. 12
13 1) Power the camcorder on. 2) Press the OK/MENU button to enter the main menu. 3) Use the Right button to enter the Setup menu and use the Down Button to move the indication bar to Format and press the OK/MENU button to enter the setting. 4) Select OK to proceed with formatting or select Cancel to cancel formatting. Note: You can directly press on the Setup icon, Format, OK, and Cancel on the screen to access the same adjustments. 13

23 Rotate (for photo 90 / 180 / 270 / Cancel only) Protect Use this function to protect the files from being deleted by accident. Lock Current / Unlock Current / Lock All / Unlock All Crop (a) Crop: To crop the chosen image (use T button or W button)and directional buttons to set the cropping are of the selected image. Press the shutter button to confirm the setting. The cropped image will be stored as a new image. (b) Cancel: To cancel cropping Slide Show 3 seconds / 5 seconds / 10 seconds Pictbridge Use this function to print a picture without going through a computer (Make sure you have a printer which supports PictBridge function). Please connect the camcorder and the printer via the USB cable. Print / Cancel 23
24 Video Recording 1) Insert a compatible SD card into the camcorder. 2) Power the camcorder on and set it to Video Mode by pressing the MODE button or pressing directly on the MODE icon on the screen. 3) Press the shutter button to begin or end recording. Note: 1) Use the Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons for zooming. 2) Press the Right button to enable or disable the LED light. 3) Press the Left button repeatedly to show the OSD information, or to power the screen off to conserve power. Shooting a Photo 1) Insert a compatible SD card into the camcorder. 2) Power the camcorder on and set it to Photo Mode by pressing the MODE button or pressing directly on the MODE icon on the screen. 24
25 3) Press the shutter button to take photo. Note: 1) Use the Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons for zooming. 2) Press the Right button to enable or disable the LED flash. 3) Press the Left button repeatedly to show the OSD information, or to power the screen off to conserve power. Playback Power the camcorder on and set it to Playback mode by pressing the MODE button or by pressing directly on the MODE icon on the screen. You may also press the Up button (while in Video mode or Photo mode to also switch to the playback mode). Press the W/Zoom In button to enter thumbnails preview. Use the directional buttons and press the OK/MENU button to select the preferred file. 25
26 Playback Video Clips 1) Press the Shutter button or touch on the screen to start or pause playback. Touch on the screen or press the OK/MENU button to stop the playback. 2) Use the Zoom In / Zoom Out buttons to adjust the volume output of the video playback. Playback Photos 1) First press T/Zoom In button to enlarge the photo. 2) Use T/Zoom In and W/Zoom Out buttons to adjust the photo size. 3) Press OK/MENU button to enter or exit the menu. 4) Use direction buttons to explore the details of the photo or use T/zoom in and W/zoom out buttons to adjust again the photo size. 26
27 Connecting the Camcorder to an HDTV 1) Connect the camcorder to an HDTV with an HDMI cable. 2) Power the HDTV on and switch to the selected source on your TV. 3) Power the camcorder on and set the camcorder to Playback Mode. 4) Playback operation is the same as the playback of the camcorder. Download Stored Files to Your Computer 1) Connect the camcorder with the computer via the USB cable and Mass Storage will show on the camcorder s screen. 2) On your computer, go into My Computer from the Start menu. 3) Look under the Removable Disk or Devices with Removable Storage group, or the name of your memory card present there. 4) Double click on Removable Disk or the name of your memory card, and continue through the categorized folders until you see your media. 27
28 5) You may now highlight and or all the files you wish to transfer to your computer. Once highlighted, go to the EDIT menu in the window, and select COPY. Now you can navigate to your target location and select PASTE for the EDIT menu. Your media may take a few seconds for the transfer to complete. Use the Camcorder as a PC camera (Windows XP Only) 1) Connect the camcorder with your computer via the USB cable. 2) Make sure that the camcorder is powered off. 3) Hold down the Shutter button. Then press the Power button and together until PC Camera appears on the camcorder s screen. 4) Open My Computer in your computer and a file named USB video tool will be found. 5) Double click on the icon will activate the PC camera feature. 28
29 Note: PC camera mode is not compatible for the following operating systems: 1) Windows operation system: Windows 7 or later versions. 2) Macintosh operation system: MAC or later versions. Software Installation The bundled software CD has the drivers and software that come with camcorder. Insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive and run it, then double click the start.
