About ehealth Concord s ehealth Suite of software products provides a comprehensive fault, availability, and performance management solution that spans the entire infrastructure: applications, systems, and networks. All Concord products are integrated and store data in the ehealth database. ehealth automates technology management for IT departments, telecommunication carriers, and service providers. With ehealth, you can manage the quality and performance of services such as data, voice, wireless, Internet, and cable. You can report on behavior for thousands of elements in real time, or you can generate reports on historical information. You generate these reports from the ehealth console or from the ehealth Web interface. You can run automatic, scheduled reports, create your own custom reports, view live data, or perform on-demand queries. For more information about running reports, refer to the ehealth Reports Guide. 11

12 Chapter 1 Product Overview While providing out-of-the-box support for many devices, ehealth does the following: Discovers devices in your infrastructure using Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Frequently polls statistics collected by each device s Management Information Base (MIB) Collects information and stores it in a database where it is available for reporting Concord also provides several modules that enable ehealth to integrate with various network management software products. These integration modules enable you to use the reporting capabilities of ehealth to monitor data that third-party products gather about switches, routers, and other devices in your infrastructure. For more conceptual information about ehealth, refer to the Introduction to ehealth. About OpenView NNM Topology is the arrangement of network nodes and media within an enterprise networking infrastructure. OpenView NNM provides tools for fault, configuration, and performance management for TCP/IP and IPX/SPX networks. You can use OpenView NNM to discover objects in your network and monitor the status of your entire network environment. You can view your network topology through the OpenView map. You can also use NNM to do the following: Diagnose and respond to network faults and performance problems from a central location. Manage vendor devices that support SNMP. View network and system configuration information for nodes on your network through OpenView forms, tables, and graphs. Build MIB applications for enterprise-specific MIBs. Customize your management station by adding other tools and applications to the menu bar. Perform MIB data collection, storage, and graphing for trend analysis.

About ehealth OpenView 13 Figure 1 displays the OpenView NNM map interface. You can run NNM on Windows, Solaris, and HP-UX operating systems. 1 Figure 1. OpenView NNM Map Interface About ehealth OpenView For more information about OpenView NNM, refer to the online Help available with that product. You can also refer to the Hewlett-Packard Web site at and Hewlett-Packard documentation. ehealth OpenView enables you to access ehealth reporting features directly from OpenView NNM interfaces. From the OpenView NNM map interface, you can link to the ehealth Web interface and run At-a-Glance and Trend reports on objects in your network that both ehealth and OpenView NNM monitor. From the OpenView NNM Alarm Categories window, you can access an ehealth Alarms Browser window and run At-a-Glance reports, Trend reports, and Live Trend charts on ehealth alarms. (To use Live Trend, you must configure the ehealth Live Health software for the integration, as the following section describes.)

14 Chapter 1 Product Overview Traps are messages sent by an SNMP agent to an NMS (or other device) to indicate that a threshold has been reached or another user-defined condition has occurred. Alarms are notifications of problems or potential problems somewhere in the infrastructure. Using Live Health and ehealth OpenView The Live Health suite of applications includes Live Exceptions, Live Status, and Live Trend. These applications reside on the ehealth system and are enabled when the ehealth administrator adds a Live Health license to the ehealth system. The ehealth administrator uses the Live Exceptions application to send traps and alarms to the OpenView NNM system. The OpenView NNM administrator must download the Live Health client software from the ehealth system, and install it on the OpenView NNM system. You can then link to the Live Trend application and create charts that monitor statistics elements that ehealth is polling. For conceptual information about Live Exceptions and Live Trend, refer to the ehealth Live Health User Guide. NOTE If you are running multiple ehealth systems in your infrastructure, you must download the Live Health client software from the same ehealth system that is sending traps and alarms to your OpenView NNM system. Although Live Status is part of the Live Health suite and resides on the ehealth system, it is not integrated with OpenView. Figure 2 on page 15 illustrates the ehealth components that must reside on the ehealth system, and the components that must reside on the OpenView NNM system to enable you to use all of the functionality that this integration module provides.

Accessing ehealth from OpenView NNM 45 The remaining selections in the Action list are standard OpenView NNM actions which allow you to restrict the scope of any action. For information about these actions, refer to the OpenView NNM online Help. Using the OpenView NNM Map Interface When you start OpenView NNM, the internet level of the OpenView network map appears. 1 3 The OpenView NNM map interface provides access to ehealth in the following ways: Access to the ehealth Web interface through the Tools menu. Access to ehealth At-a-Glance reports and Live Trend charts through the Performance menu. Access to ehealth At-a-Glance reports, Trend reports, and Live Trend charts about an element from the ehealth traps element icon. (This icon appears only when traps are present for the selected element.) The following sections provide information about using these links.

46 Chapter 3 Using ehealth OpenView Using the Tools Menu The OpenView NNM Tools menu provides an ehealth link to the Administration page of the ehealth Web interface. You must have ehealth administrative permissions to access this page. Select Tools ehealth:ehealth Console. The ehealth Web interface appears. You must log in to this interface using your ehealth user name and password. When you access the Administration page, you can refer to the Web Help and the ehealth Administration Guide for detailed information about managing ehealth from this page. Using the Performance Menu The OpenView NNM Performance menu provides an ehealth link that enables you to access network performance information for objects in your network that both ehealth and OpenView NNM monitor. When you drill down to the Segment map and select an icon for an object in your network, the At-a-Glance Reports and Live Trend links are enabled on the Performance menu for objects. NOTE If the object is not monitored by both ehealth and OpenView NNM, the links are not enabled.

Accessing ehealth from OpenView NNM You can do one of the following: Select Performance ehealth At-a-Glance-Report to view an At-a-Glance report for this system in your network. Select Performance ehealth Live Trend to view Live Trend information for this system in your network. For detailed information about Live Trend charts, refer to the online Help for Live Trend. For information about the standard OpenView NNM Performance menu options, refer to the online Help. When you view an At-a-Glance report or Live Trend information from OpenView NNM, the software starts the Web browser configured for your system. Using the ehealth Element Icon You can display lower levels of the OpenView NNM map interface by double-clicking the Internet icon. The interface displays icons that represent network segments. You can display individual objects contained in a network segment by double-clicking a segment icon.

48 Chapter 3 Using ehealth OpenView When you select an object on the map, and right-click, OpenView displays a Symbol: name menu. You can use the Symbol menu to view ehealth At-a-Glance reports and Live Trend information. To view ehealth reports, do the following: Right-click an icon and select ehealth At-a-Glance-Report Right-click on an icon and select ehealth Live Trend

Troubleshooting 49 Troubleshooting When you view an At-a-Glance report or Live Trend information from OpenView NNM, the software starts the Web browser configured for your system. For information about using the standard OpenView NNM features on the Symbol menu, refer to the online Help. If you experience problems while using ehealth OpenView, Concord Technical Support may direct you to create a troubleshooting Zip file that it will use to diagnose these problems. ehealth provides a troubleshooting tool that collects copies of files from various subdirectories of the ehealth system to create this Zip file. However, because ehealth OpenView runs on OpenView NNM systems, you must run the nhovgetsupportinfo.ovpl command on the OpenView system to send copies of files to the ehealth system. Perform the following procedure from the command line on your OpenView NNM system (Windows or UNIX) before you use the troubleshooting tool on the ehealth Web interface. To send ehealth OpenView troubleshooting information to ehealth: 1. Change to the OpenView home directory. NOTE NOTE On UNIX systems this directory is typically located in RSW29. On Windows systems, you can enter cd %NH_OV_HOME% to locate this directory Enter the following command: nhovgetsupportinfo.ovpl -host hostname (Where hostname is the fully qualified hostname of the ehealth system to which you are sending information. For example, larkspur.concord.com.)

50 Chapter 3 Using ehealth OpenView When you run this command, it retrieves the following information from the NNM for use by the ehealth troubleshooting tool: Output from ovtopodump -rl The OpenView version number Copies of all files in the openview homeqhwkhdowkgdwd directory Copies of nethealth.envvars files in the openview homeelqdirectory A copy of $nh_ov_home/conf/c/trapd.conf When Technical Support directs you to create the troubleshooting Zip file, you access the link to the troubleshooting tool on the ehealth system through the Web interface. To access the ehealth troubleshooting tool: 1. Log in to the ehealth Web interface as the administrator. 2. On the Administration tab, click Site Management and then click Advanced Logging. 3. On the Advanced Logging page, click the Create Technical Support Information link. 4. Complete the fields on the Create Technical Support Information page according to the instructions in the Web Help. For more information about the troubleshooting tool and how to send the troubleshooting Zip file to Technical Support, refer to the Help for this page.
