3 Mission of ME-ARC To conduct state of the art research and training in mobile and electronic health to improve public health in vulnerable populations across the lifespan.

5 Mobile Health Advantages: Lack of disparities by race, education, and income Reach large audiences Decrease barriers to treatment access Decrease space/time gap between tx and behavior Seamless integration with daily life Treatment can be tailored in real time Connection to provider and other sources of social support Reduces cost burden Biomarker feedback given through sensor technology Ability to reach those who are, and who are not, motivated to change (Borrelli, Bartett, Tooley, et al., JMIR, 2014).

16 Pilot Project 1: Integrating smoking cessation into dental visits using technology (Borrelli & Endrighi) Most current smokers are not motivated to quit smoking Need to proactively reach them through existing infrastructures Urban dental clinic = proactive reach to underserved smokers GSDM clinic visits: ~1,000 smokers each year Video-based intervention in the clinic + mobile app to motivate cessation Aim 1: Assess provider workflow for clinic integration Aim 2: Focus groups with dental patients who smoke Aim 3: Iterative co-design of app to motivate cessation

17 Pilot Project 2: Digital Technology for Weight Management among Cancer Survivors (Quintiliani) Obesity is a risk factor for breast cancer recurrence Management of lifestyle behaviors is needed during survivorship period Particularly from health disparity-facing groups mhealth tools allow for integration into daily life Aim 1: Obtain feedback on mhealth design features from BMC participant panel Aim 2: Conduct focus groups for in-depth feedback Aim 3: Design of mhealth app for future testing

18 Pilot Project 3: Development of a Novel e-health App for Knee OA Exercise Adherence (Keysor) Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a leading cause of disability Exercise is an essential element of disease management but adherence to exercise regimens is poor Effective interventions to sustain exercise in the community are needed Mobile health could be a means to promote exercise adherence Aim 1: To gain an understanding of features to include in an exercise adherence mobile health app Aim 2: Build wireframes of the mobile health app Aim 3: Program a low fidelity app and test fidelity
