7 Voice over IP Call Rates You can use your VoIP 087 phone service to make local and international calls to fixed and mobile numbers. You can dial any fixed or mobile number directly from the VoIP device using the full area codes at all times. i.e. when in JHB area always use 011 as the prefix to your number. To dial International numbers first dial 00 then the area code of the Country you are calling, followed by the number (drop any 0 numbers off the beginning of any number). Calls are charged in SA Rands and Billing is done according to the package you subscribe to. Billing can be done in per second for Business Subscribers and 30/6 for Private Subscribers. In most cases, Hardware is available free of charge with a contract Data Subscription but is also available on outright purchase. 10 Voice over IP Limitations What are the Disadvantages of Voice over IP? Like all systems and devices that are reliant on Internet connectivity, VOIP is not flaw-free. Electrical power is essential, so if the power fails, so will your connection. In addition, broadband problems such signal strength and Network activity/usage will affect call quality and, might require you to reset your VoIP device on a daily basis. For PC based Phones, Processor drain also affects VOIP as it is dependent on your system resources - so too little space on your hard drive might cause your call to drop. Additional to this, there is the following limitations: No Incoming Calls from outside of RSA Faxing may not always be possible this is dependent on Internet Connectivity No Access to Special Service and Emergency Numbers e.g. 0800, 1023, 112, etc. This also includes Faxing to 086 Fax to numbers. Voice over IP is a best effort Service but uptime generally is 99%.
