PREREQUISITES: CIST 0117 (Local Area Networking) REQUIRED TEXT AND MATERIALS: Please check with the KCKCC bookstore, for the required text for your particular class. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class covers a microcomputer operating system used by personal and/or workstation computer. With new computer systems being introduced, this class will introduce students to the most current version and to a specific operating system. The specific operating system name will be provided in the class schedule after CPU O/S=Win Vista and may vary in credit hours. Preparation MCP for Exam METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: A variety of instructional methods may be used depending on content area. These include but are not limited to: lecture, multimedia, cooperative/collaborative learning, labs and demonstrations, projects and presentations, speeches, debates, and panels, conferencing, performances, and learning experiences outside the classroom. Methodology will be selected to best meet student needs. COURSE OUTLINE: I. Installing Windows Vista A. Perform an attended installation of Windows Vista. B. Perform an unattended installation of Windows Vista. 1. Install Windows Vista by using Remote Installation Services (RIS). 2. Install Windows Vista by using the System Preparation Tool. 3. Create unattended answer files by using Setup Manager to automate the installation of Windows Vista. C. Upgrade from a previous version of Windows to Windows Vista. 1. Prepare a computer to meet upgrade requirements.
2 2. Migrate existing user environments to a new installation. D. Perform post-installation updates and product activation. E. Troubleshoot failed installations. II. Implementing and Conducting Administration of Resources A. Monitor, manage, and troubleshoot access to files and folders. 1. Configure, manage, and troubleshoot file compression. 2. Control access to files and folders by using permissions. 3. Optimize access to files and folders. B. Manage and troubleshoot access to shared folders. 1. Create and remove shared folders. 2. Control access to shared folders by using permissions. 3. Manage and troubleshoot Web server resources. C. Connect to local and network print devices. 1. Manage printers and print jobs. 2.
