CIP Implement, administer, and troubleshoot information systems that incorporate servers in a networked computing environment. The student will configure peripherals, devices, and resources; set up servers; configure directory replications; manage licensing, system and user policies; and administer servers, disk resources, and directory services. 3 STUDENT EVALUATION BRAZOSPORT COLLEGE SYLLABUS ITNW 1354: IMPLEMENTING AND SUPPORTING SERVERS COURSE EVALUATION A. Class participation in D2L and LabSim will account for no more than 5% of the total grade. B. Unit Tests will account for no more than 45% of the total grade. C. Labs will account for no more than 25% of the total grade. D. Final Examination will account for no more than 25% of the total grade. INSTRUCTOR EVALUATION A. Students will be given an opportunity to evaluate their instructor and the course content. B. The instructor will review and evaluate in terms of withdrawal rate. C. Final grades given will be reviewed in an effort to determine if a pattern of high or low grades exists. DEPARTMENT EVALUATION OF COURSE A. 4 BRAZOSPORT COLLEGE SYLLABUS ITNW 1354: IMPLEMENTING AND SUPPORTING SERVERS GENERAL GOALS/OBJECTIVES COURSE CONTENT A. Students will be asked to modify files and computer settings using appropriate software as outlined on a lab or final exam. B. Students will be monitoring and correcting their performance in all of the labs and on all exams. SPECIFIC GOALS/OBJECTIVES The following list of target areas will be addressed in the course: 1. Prepare for the installation of Windows 2008 Server. Perform an installation of Windows 2008 Server. 2. Configure a Windows 2008/2012 Server computer as a domain controller. Install and configure Active Directory services, and administer Active Directory objects. 3. Identify the various types of Windows 2012 file systems and their components, and perform common disk management tasks. 4. Identify the roles of a Windows 2012 Server system administrator. 5. Configure NTFS security and configure security for shared folders. Configure and organize shared resources using DFS. 6. Create and administer various types of user accounts and group accounts. Administer group policies and manage group policy objects. 7. Implement and administer network printing, manage documents, and administer printers from a Web browser. 8. Identify network protocols and services supported by Windows 2012 Server. Configure TCP/IP, DHCP, and DNS. 9. Identify the various components of Windows 2012 security, and analyze security on a computer running Windows 2012 Server. Configure Certificate Services and file encryption. 10. Manage hardware devices and their drivers. 11. Monitor and optimize the performance of your hard disk. Monitor system performance. 12. Configure, implement, and troubleshoot Remote Access policies.

5 BRAZOSPORT COLLEGE SYLLABUS ITNW 1354: IMPLEMENTING AND SUPPORTING SERVERS LEARNING OUTCOMES Previously ITMC 1341 and then ITMT Upon completion of the course the student will be able to install a MS Server OS. Hands-on lab assignment, required to continue with the course. 2. Upon completion of the course the student will be capable of performing basic system management of user and group accounts. Successful completion of hands-on final. 3. Upon completion of the course the student will be able to set permissions on local and domain resources. Concepts test & lab assignment. 4. The student will be able to manage domain resources using Active Directory and system tools. The student will demonstrate an understanding of Organizational Units and objects. Concepts test & hands-on lab. 5. The student will display an understanding of the disk file systems used in the Microsoft Server Environment. Concepts test. 6. The student will be able to install and configure the basic network services including DHCP and DNS on a Microsoft Server. Concepts test & hands-on labs.

Phone : (979) Division Secretary Website COURSE DESCRIPTION The goal of this course is to prepare students for the real-world challenges of a Microsoft networking professional. It is designed for students interested in the new Microsoft Windows Server 2012 networking technology, but not immediately interested in covering the MCSE/MCSA Exam objectives. The material includes extensive hands-on projects, exercises, and review questions in each section which reinforce Microsoft Windows Server network administration skills as they are learned. Case projects at the end of each section allow students to take on the role of a Windows Network administrator - making decisions and troubleshooting real-life problems. Specific topic coverage includes: Windows Server Network Administration, Managing Windows Server, Hardware and Software, Administering Active Directory, Managing Group Policy, Administering File Resources, Managing Printers, Publishing, Auditing, and Disk Resources, Administering Web Resources in Windows Server, Administering TCP/IP, Administering DNS, Monitoring and Troubleshooting Windows Server, and Administering Remote Access Services. CIP (3 SCH, 2 lecture, 2 lab) PREREQUISITES ITNW 1325 and ITSC 1305 or approval of the division chair. You should have the following knowledge and skills prior to starting the course. In some cases it may be possible to acquire this knowledge and these skills through additional study during the course: Knowledge of the fundamentals of networking technology. Ability to navigate the Windows operating system interface. Practical knowledge of accessing and changing the BIOS of a PC. TEXTBOOK OR COURSE MATERIAL INFORMATION There is no textbook for this course. All lecture material, labs, and testing will be done through ***Warning*** You cannot pass this course if you do not have the LabSim software access. Procedures for students to obtain LabSim software are listed below: There are only two sources for LabSim software activation codes. 1) The BC Bookstore 2) (See D2L News for more instructions.) Be sure and ask for the LabSim software that matches the course that you are taking. For ITNW1354 Implementing Servers, the LabSim course is: TestOut Windows Server Pro: Install and Configure ****Warning*** Students should never purchase LabSim course from another student or off a website like ebay.com or Amazon.com as once the activation code is used then it cannot be used for another student. The LabSim license cannot be resold by an individual. The BC Bookstore and the instructor are not responsible for problems or resolution if you choose to order LabSim

Students should never purchase a LabSim course from another student or off a website as once the activation code is used it cannot be reused for another student or resold by an individual. LAB REQUIREMENTS Internet access ATTENDANCE AND WITHDRAWAL POLICIES: ***Your online activities in BC Virtual Campus (D2L) and / or LabSim are tracked for course participation. Failure to log into the systems and to make satisfactory progress (checking announcements, s, viewing materials, doing labs, and exams) according to the schedule of assignments listed in BC Virtual Campus (D2L) may result in your dropping / withdrawal from the course by the instructor. D2L and LabSim Participation: You are required to log into D2L at least three different days during each week to check assignments, , discussions, etc. There will be a one-point deduction for every week that you do not log in on three different days. Course weekly assignments and communication will be distributed through the D2L course management system of Brazosport College. Withdrawals: If for any reason you choose to stop coming to class, please fill out the proper withdrawal forms at the registrar s office. Failure to do so will result in an F for the course. It is the student's responsibility to withdraw from a course if circumstances occur that could prevent the student from successfully completing that course. Students should notify instructor of decision to withdraw and must not expect nor assume the instructor will complete the paperwork for the student. The instructor will complete required paperwork only if the instructor decides to drop a student for cause. Failure to notify instructor of withdrawal could result in the student failing the course. Please note that changes in the Texas Education Code state that students enrolling for the first time in a Texas public institution of higher education in the fall of 2007 or after, will not be permitted to withdraw from more than a total of six courses (no minimum number of credit hours on each course) in which the student is officially enrolled during the student's period of undergraduate study at all such institutions (this includes any course a transfer student has dropped at another institution of higher education). 8 COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND GRADING POLICY Grades will be determined by the following system: D2L and LabSim Part. 5% Unit Tests 45% Labs 25% Final Examination 25% 100% After your numerical grade has been calculated, your letter grade will be determined as follows: A B C D F % of the total points possible 80 89% of the total points possible 70 79% of the total points possible 60 69% of the total points possible less than 60% of the total points possible TESTING TESTING WILL BE DONE AT SCHEDULED TIMES IN TESTOUT.COM (LABSIM) MAKEUP POLICY AS YOU WILL HAVE A FULL WEEK OF TEST TIME TO TAKE THE TESTS, THERE WILL BE NO MAKEUP TESTS FOR MAJOR EXAMS AND THE FINAL EXAM. STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES Students are expected to fully participate in the course. Students should complete the homework assignment on the schedule prior to coming to class. The following criteria are intended to assist you in being successful in this course. a. Time Management. b. Understanding the Syllabus Requirements. c. Utilizing Online Components (such as WebCT). d. Communicating with the Instructor. e. Completing Course Work. PROJECTS, ASSIGNMENTS, PORTFOLIOS, SERVICE LEARNING, INTERNSHIPS, ETC. Students are expected to maintain a notebook of all class notes and lab procedures and solutions. These notebooks will be checked throughout the semester and points will be deducted if the notebooks are not current. Notebooks should also contain a current schedule and syllabus. Notebooks are 11 points of the lab grade. ACADEMIC HONESTY Brazosport College assumes that students eligible to perform on the college level are familiar with the ordinary rules governing proper conduct including academic honesty. The principle of academic honesty is that all work presented by you is yours alone. 9 Academic dishonesty violates both the policies of this course and the Student Code of Conduct. Course goals and performance objectives for labs require acquisition, organization, interpretation and evaluation of data. Students will be asked to modify files and computer settings using appropriate software as outlined on a lab or final exam. Students will be monitoring and correcting their performance in all of the labs and on all exams. Students are expected to select the proper software tools, invoke them, and then ensure the work is meeting the expected outcomes. If the outcomes are not as expected, the student is expected to make the appropriate changes to achieve the outcome. Lectures and labs require students to read, write, and use mathematical skills. Students are expected to listen to the lecture, because not all information appears in the text. Students are encouraged to ask questions and participate in class discussions. Most labs require students to use their creative and problem-solving skills. The student must perceive the problem and find a way to get the data into the right form so the expected output can be achieved. Students will be required to monitor their time, especially on labs, exams, and on the final. It is the student s responsibility to turn in their labs on time. The student is expected to be honest and do their own labs and exams. This is monitored!
