The Institute has field stations at Kavalur & Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu, Gauribidanur & an Extension Centre at Hoskote in Karnataka, and Leh & Hanle in J&K. Applications are invited from the eligible candidates for the following position: 1) Name of the post : ENGINEER-C (COMPUTER) No. of Post : One (Unreserved) Place of posting : Bangalore Pay scale : Pay Band 3 Rs.15,600-39,100 + Grade pay Rs.6,600/- Qualification : Essential: B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc or equivalent in a field of Electronics/ Electrical/ Electronics and Communication/ Telecommunication/ Computer Science with a recommended minimum of 60% marks from a recognized University/Institution. Percentage of marks is relaxable if the candidate s technical experience is exceptional. Candidate should have considerable experience of 5 years in the field of Computer Programming/Computer Networking/ Internet & Web Technology. Or M.E. / M.Tech in the field of Electronics/Electrical/Electronics and Communication/Telecommunication/Computer Science with recommended minimum 60% marks from a recognized University/ Institution. Percentage of marks is relaxable if the candidate s technical experience is exceptional. Candidate should have considerable experience of 3 years in the field of Computer Programming/Computer Networking/ Internet & Web Technology. Desirable: Redhat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Redhat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification. Additionally, candidates with a Ph.D in a relevant field or in a science subject (Physics/Maths/Computer Science) may also apply if they possess the qualifications described above. In the event of selection to the position, the designation would be Scientist C with the same scale of pay as mentioned above. Age : Below 45 years

2 Contd 2 :: 2 :: Job requirement : Must be proficient in system administration skills in a Linux/ Unix environment. LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, Perl/Php/Python) proficiency is a bonus. Experience working with Linux clusters is essential. This should specifically include maintenance and trouble shooting of network and node hardware and software. The candidate must be proficient in using the state of the art cluster management tools, and should be well versed in personally upgrading the OS and installing new software as per the requirements of the users. Applicant must be self-motivated and able to work well with scientists involved in Astrophysical and Fundamental Physics problems. Good communication skills, both written and verbal, are required. A background with parallel programming using MPI, OpenMP, or other parallel programming environments is not required but is a major plus, as is an advanced degree in a field related to computational engineering or computer science and strong programming experience in a structured language such as Fortran 77/ Fotran90/C/C++/Java/Python. Job description : The High Performance Computing(HPC) Systems Administrator will provide general troubleshooting and support of HPC systems, including recommendations and implementations for improved performance, implement available storage systems using various file systems including Luster, XFS, and ext3/ext4 with NFS; implement archival/back-up systems to ensure retention of critical data assets; coordinate with other HPC team members to prioritize and take responsibility for assigned tasks; plan and execute for growth in HPC needs; prepare technical briefings; create and maintain documentation for users and system administrators describing the use and architecture of HPC systems (including MPICH and OpenMP); respond quickly to user requests for assistance and troubleshooting; help develop and refine scheduling policies for the batch queuing system; provide expertise and support for Infiniband interconnect; install and maintain user applications, install and maintain system patches and libraries, track software license and hardware warranty expirations, provide recommendations and implement system security hardening in accordance with Institute s policies; work with staff, faculty and students to help evaluate and implement emerging technologies, and to provide support of Linux and Mac workstations, visualization initiatives, and other initiatives as directed. Selected candidate will be on probation for a period of two years and will be continued on regular appointment subject to satisfactory performance during the probationary period. 2. Age relaxation is permissible to SC/ST & OBC candidates and also to physically handicapped candidates as notified by Govt. of India from time to time. 4.
