28 How to pass the PMP exam? Forget about what you think or what you know about project management Till you obtain your PMP certification, you will see the world of Project Management through PMBOK 5 th Edition. Never forget the first two rules Always look for best fit answer 28

29 How to pass the Exam? Easy:Easy questions can be answered right away: all others may be skipped and mentally classified as recall, deduct, or compute challenges. Recall Easy Deduct Recall: Recall questions test your ability to memorize definitions so you can select the correct answer in accordance with the definition in PMBOK V5 Compute 29

30 How to pass the Exam? Deduct: Deduct questions test your ability to rationalize the selection of the correct answer, such as in a context of ethics, for example. You will be given a situation to interpret and to rationalize which of 4 answers best covers the situation in the question Compute:Compute questions can be timeconsuming, yet are no more valuable than easy questions. As for deduct questions, postpone the poser questions until later in the test: you can easily get lost in the complexity of the questions and lose track of time. Easy Recall Deduct Compute 30

33 PMP Exam Eligibility Criteria Work Experience: 4500 hours if you have a university degree 7500 hours if don t have a university degree This experience must be obtained within the last 8 years Experience must span the five PM process groups PM Education: 35 contact hours of project management education that covers all the knowledge areas. 33

35 The PMP Exam Breakdown of the 200 Questions on the Exam Initiating the Project 13% Planning the Project 24% Executing the Project 30% Monitoring and Controlling the Project 25% Closing the Project 8 % Note : A new version of the PMP exam is scheduled to come into effect as of January 1 st /2016. The new version will have a slightly different weight distribution as the current version. 35

36 The PMP Exam Pre Test Questions 25 pretest questions will be randomly placed throughout the new examination to gather statistical information on the performance of these questions in order to determine whether they may be used on future examinations. These 25 pretest items are included in the 200-question examination, but will not be included in the pass/fail determination; candidates will be scored on 175 questions To pass the PMP examination, candidates must answer a minimum of 106 of the 175 scored questions correctly (i.e. approximately 61% or greater score) Note : PMI made a decision in 2006 to no longer publish passing scores for its exams. In 2007, PMI also removed all quantitative elements from the post-exam review for test candidates. The passing score is estimated inside a range between 61% and 75%. 36

37 Exam Eligibility One-year eligibility period. All candidates will be given one year to take the examination. This one-year eligibility period begins when a candidate's application is approved. Limit on the number of times candidates will be permitted to test. Candidates will have three opportunities to take and pass the PMP examination within their one-year eligibility period. If candidates do not succeed on the third attempt, candidates will have to wait one year from their third unsuccessful attempt before being permitted to test again. 37
