1 Product Bulletin P Global Date: 5 th March 2007 Maintenance Release for IP Audio Conference Phone 2033 REVISION HISTORY Date Revision # Summary of Changes 5 th March 2007 Original bulletin This is the original publication Introduction Nortel is pleased to announce the general availability of a maintenance release of firmware for the IP Audio Conference Phone 2033 providing general quality improvements. Nortel recommends an upgrade to this maintenance release of firmware for all applicable sites at the next scheduled maintenance window. This firmware can be downloaded from the Nortel website (instructions later in this document).this maintenance release is being provided as a no charge update to all customers. 2 IP Phone Compatibility This feature release is compatible with the following IP Phone: PEC Description Firmware file NTEX11AA70 IP Audio Conference Phone bin NTEX11AA70E6 IP Audio Conference Phone bin And associated packages defined in Ordering Guidelines section below Nortel Communication Server Compatibility and Requirements This release is intended for installation on the Nortel Communication Servers CS1000, CS2000 and CS2100. This firmware release is provided freely on Nortel support websites and so replaces all previous builds (2310S10, 2310S18 and 2310S58) IP Audio Conference Phone 2033 is supported on the following Call Server Releases CS X W - IP Line or later - SS or later CS X T - IP Line Pentium or later - IP Line Strong Arm or later - SS or later Succession Enterprise X IP Line or later Recommended Release Notes / Advisements. For details on using Element Manager to download the firmware releases and upgrade IP Phones, refer to NTP Patch MPLR19682 is required to be applied on the Communication Server 1000 system R4.0. Install the patch prior to installing any IP Audio Conference Phone It is required on Releases prior to R4.5 to allow the phone to be configured into the proper class of service for Handsfree Allowed Mode (HFA). When configuring the Terminal Number (TN) associated with the IP Audio Conference Phone 2033, enable handsfree by entering HFA at the CLS prompt. Patch MPLR19682 is required to be applied on the Communication Server 1000 system R3.0. Install the patch prior to installing any IP Audio Conference Phone It is required Nortel Page 2 of 6

3 - SS or later on Releases prior to R4.5 to allow the phone to be configured into the proper class of service for Handsfree Allowed Mode (HFA). CS 2100 SE08 - IPCM 8.0 or later CS 2000 SN08 - MR3 or later To ensure proper working of the phone alerter, Patch number MPLR18688 is required to be installed on CS1000 Release 3.0 SE08 IPCM 8.0 is the official introduction load for the IP Audio Conference Phone 2033 on the CS MR3 is the official introduction load for the IP Audio Conference Phone 2033 on the CS Firmware Download Instructions To download the file from the Nortel web site, follow these instructions: Note: You will need to log in to complete the steps below. 1. Access the web site. 2. Select A-Z from the Find Products section. 3. Select I in the Products A-Z section. 4. Scroll to IP Audio Conference Phone 2033 and select Software. 5. Select the IP Audio Conference 2033 Rel 2310 link, complete the encryption questionnaire and download the file to a TFTP server. 6. Refer to the applicable NTP for instructions on loading the firmware on the IP Audio Conference Phone 2033 from the TFTP server As stated in the NTP , Procedure 113 ~ Downloading the IP Audio Conference Phone 2033 firmware Note: Nortel recommends that the user ends an active call before performing firmware upgrade. Otherwise results may be unpredictable. 1 Download the latest IP Phones firmware from the Nortel web site as above. 2 Load the latest version of the IP Phones firmware and place it on the TFTP Server. Ensure the TFTP Server is started. The files required are: Nortel Page 3 of 6

4 i2033.cfg firmware binary file (2310.bin, for instance) 3 If you statically assign IP addresses, ensure that the IP address, TFTP Server IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway information are accurate. If you are using a DHCP Server, ensure the DHCP options are configured. 4 Enter the TFTP Server IP address in the configuration menu, and reboot the IP Audio Conference Phone Upgrading firmware from 2310S10 to this release 2310 To upgrade the IP Audio Conference Phone 2033 firmware from 2310S10 to 2310, the phone must go through the following two steps: Step 1: Upgrade to 2310S18 from 2310S10 via TFTP: 1. Upload the following two files to the TFTP server target firmware load: 2310S18.bin configuration file: i2033.cfg. Ensure the bin file name in the configuration file is correspondent to the target load. In this case: SET APPNAME 2310S18.bin Please note: the name of bin file is case sensitive. 2. Configuration on IP Audio Conference Phone 2033: Power up the IP Audio Conference Phone 2033, when the phone displays Nortel, press the softkeys SK1 SK2 SK3 to get into the manual config menu. When the phone displays: TFTP Server IP:, enter the TFTP server IP address Let the phone go through the configuration sequence. After rebooted, the phone will start to download 2310S18 via TFTP. Step 2: Upgrade from 2310S18 to 2310 via UFTP, i.e. enhance firmware download: 1. Remove 2310S18.bin and i2033.cfg from the above TFTP server to avoid a constant loop. 2. Upload 2310.bin to the UFTP server. Please refer to CS1k on how to upload firmware on the Element Manager. 3. Config IP Audio Conference Phone Power up the IP Audio Conference Phone 2033, when the phone displays Nortel, press the softkeys SK1 SK2 SK3 to get into the manual config menu. 5. When the phone displays: S1 IP:, enter the S1 server IP address 6. Let the phone go through the configuration sequence. After rebooted and connected to the S1, if the load on the phone is different from the load on the server, the phone will start to download 2310 via UFTP automatically. Please note: all IP Audio Conference Phone 2033 phones on a CS1K system running 2310S10 should be registered with a single node to ensure they all go through the upgrade process. Once they are running S58 they should be moved to a different node than any new Nortel Page 4 of 6

5 units loaded with 2310S10. This will ensure none of the existing IP Audio Conference Phone 2033 s are downgraded back to 2310S18. Upgrading from 2310S18 and 2310S58 to this release 2310 On installation or rebooting, the IP Audio Conference Phone 2033 automatically downloads the firmware placed on the UFTP server. [Use the procedure described in steps 2 to 6 above]. Known Problems and Recommendations for Release 2 1 Signaling encryption ~ Upgrading the Primary Key Upgrading the Primary Key on the SMC 2450 should be performed only when the IP Audio Conference Phone 2033 is online. All IP Audio Conference Phone 2033 s that are offline when the Primary Key is updated will not be able to receive the new key and will be blocked by the SMC 2450 when being returned to online status. Sets impacted in this way will require a manual installation of the Primary Key before service can resume. Refer to the appropriate IP Audio Conference Phone 2033 NTP s for the procedure 2 Authentication ~ Characteristics of the deviceid The deviceid that is used to authenticate the conference unit has to be 4 or more characters long. This is design intent to eliminate the use of less secure entries.
