The English language entrance requirements for MUFY are publicly available on the Monash College website and reviewed regularly by Monash College Governance MUF0011 English Unit 1 MUF0021 Accounting Unit 1 MUF0061 Economics Unit 1 is a prerequisite/co-requisite for Unit 2. Students must pass Unit 1 or be enrolled in Unit 1 concurrently with Unit 2. Biology uses its own, specific language. The development and utilisation of this new language is enhanced daily in Biology. Students commencing the MUFY course should already be familiar with some scientific and biological terms and concepts. Some skill using a light microscope would be advantageous. MUF0031 Biology Unit 1 is a prerequisite/co-requisite for Unit 2. Students must have successfully pass Biology Unit 1 or be enrolled in Unit 1 concurrently with Unit 2. Units 1 and 2 cannot be taken concurrently. Students must satisfactorily complete Unit 1 before proceeding to Unit 2. Unit 2 can only be undertaken by students who have successfully completed Unit 1. Units 1 and 2 can be taken sequentially or concurrently. Students should be familiar with the following concepts: Acids and bases, atomic structure, atomic number and mass number, calculation of relative atomic mass, combined gas equation, elements, compounds, mixtures, empirical and molecular formulas, gas behavior and gas laws, intermolecular forces, isotopes, metallic, iconic and covalent bonding, mole calculations, percentage composition, ph, polarity, polymers and polymerisation, properties of water related to structure and bonding, redox reactions, solubility and precipitation, stoichiometry and systematic naming of simple organic compounds. MUF0041 Chemistry Unit 1 Before undertaking Monash University Foundation Year Physics Unit 1, students should have studied basic mathematics at a formal level and should be familiar with the concepts and skills of mathematics, calculator skills and computer applications (refer to the Physics Unit 1 Guide for specific prerequisite skills). Familiarity with algebra, trigonometry, geometry and coordinate geometry is needed for the MUFY Physics course (refer to the Physics Unit 2 Guide for specific prerequisite skills). required however it is recommended that students possess basic computing skills.. Unit 2 can only be undertaken by students who have successfully completed Unit 1. Unit 1 and Unit 2 can be taken sequentially (recommended), independently or concurrently. 4 Programming, Database and Data Science MUF0091 Mathematics Unit 1 Functions and Calculus Note: In Semester 2, 2017, students who are repeating MUF0091 Mathematics Unit 1 or undertaking MUF0091 Mathematics Unit 1 and MUF0092 Mathematics Unit 2 concurrently will be required to take an online module as part of their enrolment in MUF0091 Mathematics Unit 1 to ensure adequate coverage of curriculum during curriculum transition. MUF0092 Mathematics Unit 2 Number Patterns, Probability and Statistics MUF0101 Advanced Mathematics Unit 1 Essential Concepts In order to succeed in this unit, students are expected to have satisfactorily completed an appropriate Year 11 Mathematics or equivalent program. Background knowledge and skills in algebra, graph sketching, elementary functions such as polynomial and trigonometric functions, and introductory calculus are essential. MUF0091 Mathematics Unit 1 is a co-requisite and a prerequisite for MUF0092 Mathematics Unit 2. MUF0092 Mathematics Unit 2 can only be undertaken upon successful completion of MUF0091 Mathematics Unit 1 or as a concurrent study. In order to succeed in this unit of study, students are expected to have satisfactorily completed an appropriate Year 11 Mathematics or equivalent program. Background knowledge and skills in algebra, graph sketching, elementary functions such as polynomial and trigonometric functions, and introductory calculus are essential. It is not expected that time will be spent introducing background knowledge and skills, it is assumed that level of proficiency will allow for immediate application and development. MUF0091 Mathematics Unit 1 is a pre-requisite or corequisite. All prerequisites for Mathematics Unit 1 are also prerequisites for Advanced Mathematics Unit 1. Mathematics is a pre-requisite/co-requisite for Advanced Mathematics (MUF0101 Advanced Mathematics Unit 1: Essential Concepts / MUF0102 Advanced Mathematics Unit 2: Calculus with Applications). Mathematics (MUF0091/MUF0092) cannot be studied in conjunction with Fundamental Mathematics (MUF0141/MUF0142). It should be noted that specific MUFY Mathematics subjects and minimum scores are prerequisite requirements for a number of Monash University destination degrees. Students may be asked to sit a placement test to determine the appropriate level of mathematics study where more than one course is offered. Students are permitted to transfer between Mathematics and Fundamental Mathematics streams only by forfeiting the current level of mathematics. No exemptions or credit will be granted and the forfeited unit(s) of Fundamental Mathematics/Mathematics will not contribute to any subject average or MUFY score calculation. Unit 1 can be completed as a single unit. In order to succeed in this unit of study, students are expected to have satisfactorily completed an appropriate Year 11 Mathematics or equivalent program. Background knowledge and skills in number operations, and introductory algebra, are essential. It is not expected that time will be spent introducing this presumed knowledge and skills, but it is assumed that the level of proficiency will allow for immediate reinforcement through the application developed within the unit. Students may be asked to sit a placement test to determine the appropriate level of mathematics study where more than one course is offered. Unit 1 and Unit 2 can be completed concurrently or sequentially. Unit 2 can only be undertaken upon satisfactory completion of Unit 1 or as a concurrent study. Monash University Foundation Year Fundamental Mathematics (MUF0141/MUF0142) cannot be studied in conjunction with Mathematics (MUF0091/MUF0092) or Advanced Mathematics (MUF0101/MUF0102). Singers should have some prior choral experience; the ability to read music would be very beneficial. MUF0111 Music Unit 1 MUF0131 Global Studies Unit 1 Global Studies Unit 1 is a prerequisite/co-requisite for Unit 2. Students must have a pass in Global Studies Unit 1 or be enrolled in Unit 1 concurrently with Unit 2. Units 1 and 2 can only be taken concurrently if the student has achieved a score of at least 45% for a prior attempt at undertaking Unit 1. Units 1 and 2 can be taken sequentially (recommended) or concurrently. NOTE: Global Studies was formerly known as Globalisation.
