2 Join the next generation of Australia s shipbuilders The Australian Government has committed to a naval shipbuilding industry in Australia by ordering: > Twelve new Shortfin Barracuda submarines, designed by the French naval shipbuilder DCNS. This project is also known as the Future Submarine Program or SEA 1000 > Nine navy frigates with anti-submarine capability. This is called the Future Frigate Program or SEA 5000 > Twelve offshore patrol vessels for maritime patrol and response duties, known as SEA The combined building and maintenance phases of these projects mean that a continuous shipbuilding program is planned for the next 30 years and beyond. As a result, there will be thousands of job opportunities in submarine and ship building across Australia, and particularly in South Australia and Western Australia. You could land a job on one of these shipbuilding projects or in the hundreds of businesses that supply the shipbuilders. For each project thousands of highly skilled trades people and engineers will need to come together to ensure the naval vessels are delivered on time and to the highest quality and technical standard.
