Developed by industry experts SSPC Trainthepainter has been created in response to strong demand within the industrial coatings industry. The SSPC Trainthepainter programme is approved and certified by SSPC and Lloyd s Register. Providing coating applicators, blasters and sprayers with a comprehensive package of training modules that ensure professionalism and an insight into methods of surface treatment and application of protective coatings. Accredited supplementary modules in Thin Film Intumescent Coating, Thermal Metal Spraying, Marine Coating and High Pressure Waterjetting are available. The innovative and unique interactive training programme uses animations and videos to compliment the text and handout material. Training can only be delivered by experienced and qualified trainers who successfully complete the Train the trainer course. Assessments are conducted by independent assessors for all SSPC Certification. 8 Supplementary Modules Thin Film Intumescent Coating The thin film intumescent course is designed to improve the skills of applicators specifically in the preparation, application and monitoring of this type of passive fire protection. The course was developed by specialists in the industry, the coating manufacturers and is accredited by the BRE. In addition to health and safety, subjects include 1. What are intumescent coatings & where are they used. 2. Types of fire 3. Fire protection design and calculation loadings 4. Intumescent coating types 5. Coating application 6. Quality control and documentation Course duration 1 Day Thermal Metal Spraying Thermal metal spraying has long been used in the protective coating industry particularly in the oil and gas sector. The course has been developed to assist in understanding specific types of thermal metal spray and improve hand skills of applicators. The course has been developed and accredited in conjunction with the TSSEA In addition to health and safety, subjects include 1. Flame spray 2. Arc spray 3. Codes of practice 4. Equipment set up 5. 9 Marine Coating Marine coating applicators face may challenges not encountered in other environments. The marine coating applicator course was developed to deliver key skills and knowledge required when working in this specialised and demanding sector. In addition to health and safety, subjects include 1. Design and types of ships 2. Why we paint ships 3. Methods of surface preparation 4. On board and ballast tank maintenance 5. Marine coating systems and dry docking 6. How to prepare and line a tank Course duration 1 day High Pressure Waterjetting High pressure water jetting is a very effective but hazardous method of surface preparation in the protective coating industry. Popularity of this process is growing due to environmental considerations. The course had been accredited by the WJA and is available to applicators who have attended the WJA mandatory 2 day health and safety course. Subjects include 1. Introduction to high pressure water jetting 2. Coating systems used with high pressure water jetting 3. Risk assessments for site working 4. Method statements and checklists 5. Water jetting standards (ISO and SSPC/NACE) 6. High pressure water jetting to sea going vessels, offshore structures and general steel structures. Course duration 1 day

10 Certification Programme SSPC C6 Applicator Day 1 (8 Hours) 10 students per 1 assessor C6 is designed for contractor personnel who wish to obtain certification as a coatings applicator. This program assesses the skills of coatings applicators who have a minimum of 1600 hours experience in proper hand and power tool surface preparation methods and brush and roller coating application. There is a theoretical examination and practical assessment. SSPC C7 Abrasive Blaster Day 1 (8 Hours) 5 students per 1 assessor C7 is designed for contractor personnel who wish to obtain certification as an abrasive blast cleaner. This program assesses the skills of abrasive blast cleaners who have a minimum of 800 hours experience in an industrial or marine environment. There is a theoretical examination and practical assessment. SSPC C12 Spray Painter Day 1 (8 Hours) 5 students per 1 assessor The C12 is designed for contractor personnel who wish to obtain certification as a spray painter. This program assesses the skills of sprayers who have a minimum of 800 hours applying protective coatings with airless/conventional spray in an industrial or marine environment. There is a theoretical examination and practical assessment. CAS Level 1 Coating Applicator Specialist Day 1 (8 Hours) 5 students per 1 assessor The Level I qualification is intended for entry-level Application Specialists with limited relevant work experience. Level I Application Specialists customarily work with and under the supervision of Level 2 or Level 3 Application Specialists. The Level 1 student will have completed the SSPC Trainthepainter bronze, silver and gold training. There is a theoretical examination but no practical assessment. The theoretical examination will consist of questions on coatings application, abrasive blast cleaning and spray painting. CAS Level 2 Coating Applicator Specialist Day 1 (8 Hours) 5 students per 1 assessor The Level 2 full program is intended to review the individual s ability to apply knowledge and demonstrate the ability to analyse while developing precision, resulting in minimal rework. The program is designed to certify personnel who have experience and training in all aspects of handson surface preparation and coating application of complex industrial and marine structures. Personnel will have 3000 Hours of a documented Apprenticeship and 450 Hours of formal training; or 6000 Hours of Painting/Blasting/Spraying Experience and no formal training. There is a theoretical examination and practical assessment.

11 Programme Membership Options Registered Company Registered companies are typically involved in site and in-house surface preparation and coating In-house training with at least one approved trainer Affiliate Organisation Affiliate organisations are typically training providers who conduct training and assessment for Companies and individuals Global Affiliate Global affiliates are international organisations who deliver unlimited training worldwide to organisations and individuals The SSPC Trainthepainter website is white labelled to meet the Global Affiliate s training needs Training and Certification Registration Register to the SSPC Trainthepainter Programme as: -Registered - Company -Affiliate - Organisation -Global - Affiliate Train a trainer by attending a scheduled Train the trainer course Ensure suitable facilities for both theoretical and practical training is in place Trainers deliver SSPC Trainthepainter training to Trainees, Applicators, Sprayers and Blasters using the advanced interactive online training programme or offline with the SSPC Trainthepainter App Apply for appropriate Certificates of Training Completion and ID cards from the Corrodere Support Office Undertake SSPC s C6, C7, C12 and CAS Levels 1 and 2 Certification programme Train the Trainer Pre- Requisites The trainer must possess the following qualifications and experience prior to attending the Train the trainer course. 5 years in the protective coating industry as a coating supervisor, manager or inspector and: NACE coating inspector level 2, Frosio level 3, SSPC PCI level 2, ICorr level 2 or equivalent Senior management who have relevant experience but no inspection qualifications may be considered by the administration team.
