PROGRAMME OVERVIEW This programme aims to: produce high quality graduate electronic engineers with the specialist academic knowledge and complementary professional and personal skills for a successful career in industry and commercial engineering enterprises; provide the academic basis for initial registration with the Engineering Council as an Incorporated Engineer as defined by UK-SPEC¹; provide knowledge and understanding of the essential facts, concepts, theories and principles of electronic engineering and the underpinning science and mathematics; develop the intellectual skills to analyse and solve electronic engineering problems and formulate creative and innovative solutions and designs; develop an appreciation of the wider multidisciplinary engineering context and the social, environmental, ethical, economic and commercial considerations affecting professional engineers; develop the practical laboratory and workshop skills necessary to function as a professional electronic engineer in an industrial or commercial engineering environment; and provide a positive and enjoyable learning experience which lays the foundations for life long-learning. PROGRAMME STRUCTURE MODULE Microprocessor System Applications Electronic Engineering Applications Digital Signal Processing and Mobile Communications Final Year Project (EEC-IEng route) Computer Network Engineering* Optical Fibre Communications/Optoelectronics* * Elective Modules (1 out of 2) ENTRY REQUIREMENTS VTC Higher Diploma in Computer and Information Engineering / Computer Engineering / Electronic and Communications Engineering. Applicants holding equivalent qualifications or experience (in terms of relevant credits and competency) will be considered on a case-by-case basis according to Sheffield Hallam University's policy on the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). They should have fulfilled the academic requirements for an Associate Member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) in a relevant discipline. ¹ Graduates from VTC Higher Diploma Feeder Programmes have achieved this level of competence as they are eligible to be an Associate Member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), which is also recognised in the United Kingdom based on the Sydney Accord. 16

2 Engineering ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS An overall band score of 6.0 in the International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS) or equivalent; or VTC Higher Diploma graduates* are deemed to have met the English language requirement. *having spent 2 years on the programme ASSESSMENT Assessment is based on coursework, examinations and a major project. QUALIFICATIONS FRAMEWORK BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering is recognised under the Qualifications Framework (QF) ( QF Level Level 5 QR Registration No. 15/002710/L5 Validity Period 01/09/ /08/2019 This programme accredited by the HKCAAVQ enjoys similar status of locally-accredited honours bachelor s degree programmes.
