4 1 Overview 1 Overview Content Delivery Network (CDN) is an intelligent virtual network constructed on existing Internet infrastructures. It delivers network content from origin servers to CDN nodes, enabling end users to obtain desired content from the nearest node. Therefore, CDN speeds up website response and raises website content availability, breaking through the bottlenecks caused by low bandwidth, heavy user access traffic, and uneven distribution of network nodes. Specifically, Huawei CDN has the following advantages: Rich acceleration resources and widely distributed edge nodes Huawei CDN has over 800 acceleration nodes in China and over 100 acceleration nodes outside China. The node bandwidth is equal to or greater than 40 Tbit/s. Such acceleration nodes cover mainstream carriers in China such as China Telecom, China Unicom, China Mobile, and China Education and Research Network (CERNET), as well as many small and medium-sized carriers. With these acceleration nodes, CDN precisely schedules user requests to optimal edge nodes, providing efficient and reliable acceleration. Secure and reliable HTTPS is supported on all CDN nodes, offering enterprise-class HTTPS acceleration service for users, and protecting against hijacks, tampering, and leakage. Furthermore, an anti-leeching access control mechanism is employed based on referrer lists. Specifically, CDN checks the referrer field in a user's request against a referrer blacklist or whitelist, allowing whitelisted referrers and rejecting blacklisted referrers for access control. These advanced technologies guarantee stable and reliable acceleration services. In addition, Huawei CDN has an independent traffic cleaning center that provides anti-ddos protection capability of over 400 Gbit/s. Easy management and optimized configurations CDN provides easy access methods and self-service domain name configuration. Multiple configuration items are customizable, including anti-leeching (referrer lists), cache policies, and HTTPS certificates. 5 2 Application Scenarios 2 Application Scenarios Website Acceleration CDN is perfect to websites that require accelerations, including portals, e-commerce platforms, information apps, and user generated content (UGC). It provides excellent acceleration services across a country for all contents under an acceleration domain name, including static and dynamic contents. In addition, it supports custom cache policies. Users can set the cache expiration time according to their needs. Files of various formats can be cached, including but not limited to the following formats:.zip,.exe,.wmv,.gif,.png,.bmp,.wma,.rar,.jpeg, and.jpg. Download Acceleration CDN also applies to download tools, game clients, app stores, and websites that provide download services based on HTTP or HTTPS. An increasing number of new services, such as apps and mobile games, require updating of their client software in real time. Conventional download services need to support more files with larger sizes. If origin servers have to process all these requests, the servers and the network will encounter bottlenecks, degrading download experience. With CDN download acceleration, contents to be downloaded are distributed to edge nodes in different locations. As a result, the origin server is relieved from stress and high-speed download is ensured on clients. Acceleration for On-Demand Video/Audio Services For customers providing on-demand video/audio services, CDN is a must. Such ondemand services include online education websites, online video sharing websites, Internet video-on-demand platforms, and video/audio on-demand apps. Conventional video/audio on-demand services cause heavy load on servers and consume huge bandwidth resources. End users' experience is thereby compromised with low-speed services. However, CDN provides fast, reliable, and secure acceleration for such services by delivering the contents to all edge nodes, so that users can obtain the contents from the nearest node anywhere and anytime. Whole Site Acceleration For websites that consist of both dynamic and static contents and have many dynamic resource requests like those for asp., jsp. and php. files, CDN is a good option. CDN's whole site acceleration include dynamic acceleration and static acceleration. Static contents can be accessed from the nearest node, while dynamic contents are retrieved from the origin server though the optimal route. As CDN contributes to whole site acceleration and real-time optimization, dynamic pages can be loaded more quickly, bypassing congested routes, and users are more likely to successfully get the contents they want. 6 3 Related Services 3 Related Services Object Storage Service (OBS) OBS provides ultra-large storage space for customers to store files of any type. HUAWEI CLOUD CDN allows users to use OBS buckets as origin servers. Identity and Access Management (IAM) IAM is a self-service system for cloud resource management at enterprise level. It provides user identity management and access control services. With IAM, customers can manage user accounts (such as employee, system, and application accounts), and assign resource operation permissions to these accounts. Cloud Trace Service (CTS) CTS provides users with records about operations on CDN resources, facilitating query, audit, and backtracking. Enterprise Management Enterprise Management helps enterprise users manage their cloud resources at the project level or according to organization hierarchy. 7 4 Basic Concepts 4 Basic Concepts Acceleration Domain Name Acceleration domain names are provided by users for CDN acceleration. A domain name is an identification string that defines a realm of administrative autonomy, authority, or control within the Internet, such as a website, an address, or an FTP server. CNAME Record A Canonical Name record (CNAME record) is a type of resource record in the domain name system used to specify that multiple domain names are mapped to the same domain name (the CNAME). CNAME Domain Name On the CDN Console, after an acceleration domain name is added, the system will assign a CNAME domain name (in the form of *.c.cdnhwc1.com) to the acceleration domain name. Then, users need to configure a CNAME record at the domain name service provider, specifying that the CNAME domain name (*.c.cdnhwc1.com) is an alias for the user's own domain name. Therefore, after the CNAME record takes effect, the domain name resolution will be directed to CDN, and all the requests for the user's domain name will be transferred to CDN nodes. Origin Server An origin server is the customer's service server, which is the source of the data accelerated for delivery. DNS A domain name server (DNS) is a functional entity in the TCP/IP network. With deployment of the DNS, subscribers can access related servers using corresponding domain names. In the TCP/IP network, a domain name is mapped to an IP address. Domain names are easier to remember. However, servers use IP addresses to communicate in the network. Therefore the DNS is used to convert domain names to corresponding IP addresses. Edge Node Edge nodes are also known as CDN nodes or cache nodes, to which end users need the fewest intermediate steps to connect. 8 5 Acceleration Principles 5 Acceleration Principles When an end user accesses websites that leverage the HUAWEI CLOUD CDN service, the local DNS server will redirect all the final domain name requests to the HUAWEI CLOUD CDN service using the CNAME method. Then, based on a group of preset policies (including content types, geological locations, and network loads), CDN provides the end user with the IP address of the CDN node that responds the fastest, enabling the end user to obtain desired contents in the fastest speed. Figure 5-1 describes the HTTP request processing flow when CDN is enabled. Figure 5-1 Processing flow of an HTTP request The HTTP request process is as follows: An end user enters a website domain name in the browser. 9 5 Acceleration Principles A CNAME record is preset in the DNS server. Therefore, the domain name resolution request is redirected to CDN. CDN then provides the intelligent domain name resolution, and provides the end user with the IP address of the most responsive CDN node. The end user's browser sends the access request to CDN node after it receives the IP address of the CDN node. If the desired website contents are not cached on the CDN node or the cached contents have expired, the CDN node will retrieve the contents from the origin server and provide them for the end user. If other end users want to access the same contents, CDN then provides them with the cached contents to fulfill their requests. Issue 03 ( ) Copyright Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. 6

10 6 Access and Use 6 Access and Use 6.1 How to Access CDN CDN Console You can access CDN using a web management console or through application programming interfaces (APIs) based on HTTPS requests. API If you need to integrate CDN into a third-party system for secondary development, use APIs to access CDN. For details, see the Content Delivery Network API Reference. CDN Console Operations other than the secondary development can be performed on CDN Console. If you have a HUAWEI CLOUD account, you can directly log in to the console. If not, register one by referring to Registering with HUAWEI CLOUD. Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Log in to HUAWEI CLOUD. Click Console in the upper right corner of the displayed page. Log in to the console using an account. On the console homepage, choose Storage > CDN. ----End 6.2 User Permissions The system provides two types of user permissions by default: user management and resource management. User management refers to the management of users, user groups, and user group rights. Resource management refers to the control operations that can be performed by users on cloud service resources. Each acceleration domain name must be licensed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of People's Republic of China (MIIT). CDN does not allow the access of illegal websites. The existing domain names connected to CDN are reviewed regularly. The CDN acceleration service of a domain name will be suspended if the domain name involves any illegal action, and CDN services for all domain names of the associated user will be suspended as well. If an acceleration domain name has been in the Disabled or Rejected state for over 120 days, the system automatically deletes this domain name and its associated records. If you need to continue the CDN acceleration service for this domain name, add it to CDN again. A maximum of 10 IP addresses can be entered. URL refreshing: 2000 items per day for an account and a maximum of 1000 items at each URL submission Directory update: 100 items per day for an account and these items can be submitted at a time. URL refreshing: 1000 items per day for an account and a maximum of 1000 items at each URL submission A maximum of 100 domain names can be added to either the blacklist or whitelist. The total number of IP addresses or network segments cannot exceed 100. The CNAME domain name assigned to an acceleration domain name connected to CDN cannot be directly accessed. A CNAME record must be configured at the domain name service provider of the acceleration domain name. Once CDN is disabled for an acceleration domain name, all requests for the domain name will be directed back to its origin server. 12 7 Pricing 7 Pricing CDN provides four billing modes: You can pay by traffic, bandwidth, the 95 peak bandwidth (the 95th percentile billing), or the average daily peak bandwidth. Additionally, you can purchase traffic packages to save more, and change a selected billing mode to another one as necessary.
