1 International Journal of Computer Engineering and Applications, Volume XI, Issue IX, September 17, ISSN A COMPARISON ON ROOF COMPUTING, FOG COMPUTING AND CLOUD COMPUTING Anto Rupak, P Beaulah Soundarabai Department of Computer Science,Christ University, Bangalore, India ABSTRACT: The Roof Computing is the Federated network prototype for Internet of Things(Iot) that is always present on the onsite to give the real time information, providing big leap connectivity for the things,realtime context creating and decision triggers, providing efficient connectivity with cloud providers and security.the performance analysis of Cloud Computing and Fog Computing protocol are two Computing protocol. This paper presents the performance analysis and comparison of Cloud Computing,Fog Computing and Roof Computing under different performance metrics like application,distance,area of deployment,technology complexity. Keywords: cloud computing,roof computing,fog computing 1. INTRODUCTION Most of the business and end users requirements views started bouncing towards the IoT.IoT is an inter-working physical device where it is connected to things,vehicles,buildings and other items embedded with electronics,software,networks,sensor which enables these items to collect or exchange data.the goal of IoT deployment is to be on action switching sprinklers on in case of emergency,controlling temperature etc. IoT deals with the physical world and Anto Rupak and Beaulah Soundarabai 70
2 A COMPARISON ON ROOF COMPUTING, FOG COMPUTING AND CLOUD COMPUTING deployed for a mission, which requires the IoT system to function autonomously over a period of time, irrespective of what is happening elsewhere.for example, an IoT deployment in a factory should continue to function, if there is fiber cut outside the factory disrupting the cloud connectivity.the Things in an IoT application should operate and co-operate in a secure and independent manner essentially within the context of a local environment. Each IoT deployment should be capable to act simultaneously over a period of time (semi-autonomous) and connect into the roof or fog or cloud only when needed.[1] Cloud technology is extended by Fog Computing and further by Roof Computing. Fog Computing aims at shifting Computing resources to edge of the network, thus building approximately strong infrastructure and privacy requirements for the IoT devices[2]. 2. PROBLEM STATEMENT In technology of interconnection via Internet, the problem in Cloud Computing is that the data has to be returned from the sensors after collecting information from devices. The wristband transmits data from device to the public cloud server. The time required to transfer data from device to public cloud is high.this is quite difficult to meet the demands of IoT system. 3. DESCRIPTION OF COMPUTING NETWORKS Computing is an activity or a function that connects a data from source to destination in the network. Computing activities are determining optimal routing paths and transferring the data through internet. Computing networks have three types of computing: Cloud Computing, Fog Computing and Roof Computing. A. Cloud Computing Cloud Computing has become the buzzword for the information technology. Cloud Computing is a computing infrastructure that enables access to the shared area of resources and deliver them on demand immediately over internet. There are three types of cloud computing 1.Private 2.Hybrid 3.Public. Private Cloud: This type of cloud is maintained within an organization used mainly for maintaining their data center. Public Cloud: This type organization allows service providers to use resources in internet and develop them for public access.. Hybrid Cloud: This type of cloud allows organizations to control their private cloud while relying on public cloud. Advantages of Cloud Computing: Cloud users do not worry neither about software nor hardware of the devices. Virtual sources gives impression to the users that they have entire resources. Scalability is one of the main advantage to cloud computing. Disadvantages of Cloud Computing: Downtime: Possible downtime because of internet bandwidth and data transfer issues. Security: As the data goes out in the open internet data can be hacked by any sources. Limited Control: Customers can control and manage data and services only at their end[6] Slow on process: If the data transferred from some source and its huge transaction then automatically process gets slow. B. Fog Computing Fog Computing is the development of Cloud Computing. Also known as fogging, this system of Computing enables the user clients to control,manage and store data rather than being controlled by private network gateways.[4]. The goal of Fog Computing is to improve efficiency and minimize internet latency. Fog Computing was introduced to meet three primary goals- To improve quality of transfer and reduce the amount of data that has to be sent back to cloud. Placing data closer to end user. Provide security and compliance to the data transmission over cloud. To give easy access to the users and make it environment friendly. Advantages of Fog Computing: Bringing data close to the user. Instead of housing information at data center sites far from the end-point, Fogging aims at placing the data close to the end-user. Consumes less amount of bandwidth. Edge Computing gives high speed response to the end users and also gives the information reliable,fault tolerance and scalability. Disadvantages of Fog Computing Security issues since it is an public cloud network. We cannot identify that which user is attacking. Anto Rupak and Beaulah Soundarabai 72

Roof Computing Roof Computing is a system for developing large scale networks for the Internet of Thing(IoT).It is available for the onsite operations for the next hop of connectivity things and real time decision triggers and providing efficient data connectivity to the cloud server.roof is yet to play a significant role in development of humans culture especially providing security for the people.like humans when exposed to anti social elements or against the nature,the internet of things are weak when exposed over the internet of things in some devices because of their limited capacity to act and protect themselves.roof Computing gives continuous non-stop connectivity for Internet of Things(IoT). Goals of Roof Computing: Context Building:Enables the devices under the roof to coordinate and provide real time data transmission.it is a bridge between physical and cyber world where other products come into intravasation. Security by design:infrastructure is in that way that it provides security to end users when then opt for that privacy mechanisms. CONCLUSION As a result of this research work the Roof Computing will tremendously shift many of our current practices at almost every layer of the IoT stack, like traffic management, network traffic management, network/service provision, accounting, apps collaboration mechanisms, etc.i would like to conclude that Roof computing is an emerging networks where it works with more efficiency while working with Fog Computing and Cloud Computing.
