3 Building Automation System? Building automation is the automatic centralized control of a building's heating, ventilation and air conditioning, lighting and other systems through a building management system or building automation system (BAS). 3

8 KNX: Building Automation Standard KNX is mostly based on EIB and created from three group of protocols BCI Batibus( French ) (Schneider, Merlin Gerin) EIB (European Installation Bus) Berker, Gira, Jung, Merten and Siemens EHS ( Nederland ) KNX is an open standard KNX is an OSI based network protocol for intelligent buildings CENELEC EN CEN EN ISO / IEC IEC GB/Z GB/Z ANSI/ASHRAE 135 8

9 KNX : Technology KNX has different communication types: TP (Twisted Pair) 90% of the products PLC (over power line) Not used much RF Wireless communication Being developed fast IP : Used only for accessing KNX bus over the internet

13 About Gresbas What is Gresbas? An European project that aims to achieve grid responsive consumer-side resources through gamified competition between the building owners with widely used automation technologies. Gamification It will be implemented by setting up demonstration sites in Portugal and Turkey, equipped with building automation systems to monitor consumption and to implement demand response actions. 23 Conclusion Building automation systems have very important role for energy saving and should be integrated with smart grid systems. Need to develop some devices for energy measurement purposes Need to transfer data to building management systems which will have gamification integration to encourage users for saving energy Need to improve standardizations for integrating more buildings to the system 23
