1. Introduction This text is a supplement material of the simulation exercise curriculum, and the manual of a task executed by this curriculum. This exercise uses Riverbed Modeler (shorten to Modeler ), which is one of the network simulation tool. Here is the details of Modeler we use in this exercise. Production name : Riverbed Modeler Academic Edition Version : Ver17.5.A PL6 (Build 13309) Execution environment : Windows7 2. Notation in this text The notations of this text to express operations and precautions are as follows: Mouse button To click the left button is written as left click. To click the right button is written right click. Operation that selects the specific item from menu items The operation that selects the specific item displayed in the menu has been described Select. An actual operation is to move the mouse cursor to the targeted item, and left click. Notation of menu Notation of menu except options is written by using < > and. For example, to start calculator in the Windows, it is written Select < スタート > < すべてのプログラム > < アクセサリ > < 電卓 >, which is Select <Start> <Program> <Accessory> <Calculator> in English. Gothic Fonts Gothic (Arial or Helvetica) Fonts are used to express menu, items, attributes, buttons and input data. 2

This icon stands for the execute with confirmation of operations and settings e.g. when the mistakable items are executed. When you execute the items with this icon, please confirm carefully. This icon stands for the result of some sort are displayed as a result of the operation. Please confirm the display. This icon stands for the description of basic explanation and comment for function. This is important content to exercise however it is not directly related to a operation sequence. Please read it through. 3

3. Subject summary There are five branches of Aomori, Sendai, Nagano, Osaka, and Tokyo in a certain organization. The number of clients and the applications used are different in each branch. In this exercise, configure the network freely by linking each branch and by setting router to route packet. However, the configured network have to meet the following requirements. (1) Average response time when the simulation ends is less than 10 seconds for FTP, and less than 20sec for , respectively. (2) Link usage rate is kept about 3% on the average even at a minimum, which means unused link is not set up Base model of the exercise The base model used in this exercise is as follows: Target project:wired_network_advanced Base senario:base 3.2. Network configurations <Entire network> 4

<AOMORI> <SENDAI> <NAGANO> <TOKYO> <OSAKA> 5

3.3. Settings in each branch There are five branches, and the number of clients and kinds of applications in each branch is as follows. Branch name Number of clients Applications Special instructions AOMORI 5 , FTP, HTTP SENDAI 10 , HTTP NAGANO 5 , FTP, HTTP TOKYO 25 , FTP, HTTP HTTP server is set. OSAKA 20 , FTP, HTTP and FTP server is set Collected statistical value Following reports are set to each scenario in advance. (1) Applications Three applications of , FTP, and HTTP is referred. About , refer to < Global Statistics > < > < Download Response Time (sec) > for entire network. About FTP, refer to < Global Statistics > < Ftp > < Download Response Time (sec) >, and < Upload Response Time (sec) > for entire network. About HTTP, refer to < Global Statistics > < HTTP > < Page Response Time (sec) > for entire network. In every applications, performance in each branches is collected and can be referred in the below < Object Statistics > < (each branch) > < Client >. Note that statistical value of FTP application cannot be derived in SENDAI branch because FTP is not used there. (2) Link usage Statistical value about link usage is collected. After simulation is executed, each link is colored in accordance with the rate of link usage by < View > < Visualize Link Usage > < Color by Link Usage >. Statistical value is collected and can be referred to < Object Statistics > < (link between two branches) > < point-to-point > < utilization > 6

4. How to proceed exercise Please work according to the following procedures when you proceed the exercise. (1) Confirm the settings of the base scenario Confirm the present settings of the base scenario. (2) Make topologies and execute simulation Make a topology by copying the base scenario, and execute simulation. (3) Confirm routes and statistical value Confirm the simulation results of the made topology. Especially, check the imbalance of traffic from response time, link usage rate, etc. (4) Examine the implovement and re-execute simulations Examine improvement plans, change the settings in accordance with it, and re-execute simulations. Compare the results with the scenario before improvement, by referring the Compare statistical results of different scenarios in the Modeler operation Guide. (5) Make a report Summarize the simulation results and considerations. 7

5. Rule of the exercise (1) Threshold values Please configure the network to satisfy the following conditions. Average response time when the simulation ends is less than 10 seconds for FTP, and less than 20sec for , respectively. Link usage rate is kept about 3% on the average even at a minimum, which means unused link is not set up. There is no problem for the usage rate higher than 3%, such as 50%. (2) Object palette Use PPP link models registered in the designated object palette (Base_2_Palette). Use neither links other than specification. Data late of each link model is as follows. Link model Data rate (bps) 28K 28,000 33K 33,000 56K 56,000 DS0 64,000 DS1 1,544,000 DS3 44,736,000 (3) Link destination to connect When each branch is connected by link, both ends are made only router node. Example) When AOMORI and NAGANO are connected, select nodes are as follows. Do not connect except between two routers e.g. connecting switch-to-router, client-to-router, and client-to-server are prohibited. 8

(4) Number of links The maximum number of links in each branch is 4. (5) Amount of traffic Do not change the setting of application and the number of clients, and do not change the amount of traffic. (6) IP address settings By defaults, IP address of all interfaces are set to Auto Assigned, and IP addresses are assigned automatically when the simulation starts. Set IP addresses before executing the simulation when you want to do static routing. (7) Routing protocol By defaults, routing protocol is set to OSPF. So it is possible to make communication by simply connecting link. (8) Number of servers Do not change the number of servers that process the application. (9) Place of branches Do not change the place of branches. ( It means that it is impossible to move branches. ) (10) Cost consideration Propose the best network after considering the costs such as initial cost, running cost, etc. 9

6. Supplement of operation procedure 6.1. Interfaces connected to each link To confirm which interface is connected to each link, follow the procedure below. Right click on the link, and select Edit Ports among the displayed menu. In the example shown in this figure, it is shown that IF2 of OSAKA.router and IF5 of TOKYO.router is connected. Interface number may be vary depending on the connection order of links. Here comes the end of explanation. Please perform this simulation exercise referring to OPNET operation guide, and make a report. 10
