5 SA-COCB12-GBoversizeA4(TXShielded).qxd 8/29/5 5:45 PM Page 5 Earthing Solutions to Protect Your Investment To maximise network protection, the PANDUIT Shielded Copper Cabling System is earthed at multiple points to ensure unwanted noise energy is safely moved to the main earth point. A key element of a shielded cabling system is the proper earthing of all metallic parts. To ensure sensitive communication equipment is fully protected from potentially damaging currents PANDUIT has developed a comprehensive grounding and earthing solution. Noise and electrical spikes can cause faulty data signals and dropped packets, thus reducing the bandwidth and overall efficiency of your network. Since unshielded twisted pair cables cannot be perfectly balanced, they cannot completely compensate for the effects of noise and electrical spikes. With shielded cables, noise is prevented from reaching the cable pair in the first place. In addition, Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) can also degrade network performance. EMI is any low or high frequency electromagnetic disturbance that can interrupt or limit the effective performance of electrical equipment. Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) is a particular form of EMI which emanates from devices such as: The system earthing protection starts at the jack module with 3 fully wrapped shielding. 2 First Earthing Point Second Earthing Point The connector is then mechanically bonded to the patch panel. 3 Third Earthing Point Bluetooth WLAN appliances GPS navigation systems Aeronautical/ILS glide path systems TV broadcasting Wireless phones Make sure your network is protected with a PANDUIT Shielded Copper Cabling System. 4 The patch panel is bonded to the equipment rack for protection with bonding screws. 4 Fourth Earthing Point Finally, the entire system is bonded to the common bonding network located in the floor. The complete system is earthed for protection from EMI/RFI. 5
6 SA-COCB12-GBoversizeA4(TXShielded).qxd 8/29/5 5:45 PM Page 6 System Applications New applications and increased volume of network data are driving the need for cabling systems with higher bandwidth capabilities. As the quantity and importance of these applications continue to grow, so will the demands that are placed on the supporting cabling infrastructure. Applications at the Workstation Increased computing power at the workstation is being used by many organizations looking to gain a competitive edge. Transfer of large files between workstations for applications such as CAD drawings and 3-D images Media rendering between workstations and work-groups for animation, special effects and broadcast editing files Vital business management applications e.g. Oracle and SAP Video conferencing 1 High-end web enabling services such as VoIP and live video/audio broadcasting Data Centre Applications Data centres continue to emerge as strategic tools that are required in today s business environments. 8 SA-COCB12-GBoversizeA4(TXShielded).qxd 8/29/5 5:46 PM Page 8 TX6 GIG Shielded Copper Cabling System The TX6 GIG Shielded Copper Cabling System is a synergistic combination of components that yields best-in-class performance. With today s network architecture and server consolidation, Gigabit Ethernet is an ideal technology for fast data transfers. The bandwidth it provides is highly advantageous for real-time application response, web caching and parallel processing. This extra bandwidth is especially important with network interface cards and switches that utilise accelerated TCP/IP stacks to boost system performance. The system supports useable bandwidth designed to exceed ISO 1181 Class E Edition 2.1 specifications to MHz in a 4-connector metre channel model. With exceptionally high electrical performance levels of the cabling system and the new line-encoding scheme of PAM-12 being developed by the IEEE 82.3an task force, data rates of Gb/sec can be achieved. Fundamental design specifications, implemented by PANDUIT, to ensure performance up to MHz: Improved termination method reduces untwisting of the wire conductors to preserve NEXT performance Re-tuned connectors and patch cord plugs to have very low impedance variance around ohms TX6 GIG Shielded Jack Consistent twist rates ensure electrical transmission throughout the channel is more balanced Highly concentric conductors improve return loss and attenuation performance Larger diameter copper conductors improve signal strength throughout the channel Patent-pending enhanced GIGA-TX Technology TX7 Shielded Copper Cable Individual screened pairs prevents near-end and alien crosstalk. 8

Regional outlets from the MINI-COM range provide aesthetic and functional user outlets to meet local design needs. 9
10 SA-COCB12-GBoversizeA4(TXShielded).qxd 8/29/5 5:46 PM Page TX6 GIG Shielded Copper Cabling System Performance Gigabit performance requires a system solution with each component contributing to optimal channel performance. The PANDUIT TX6 GIG Shielded Copper Cabling System supports a 4-connector channel up to -metres and exceeds the electrical channel requirements of the GBASE-T Draft amendment to IEEE Std. 82.3an up to MHz. The TX6 GIG shielded solution also supports the electrical channel requirements of the draft working proposals of TIA/EIA 568-B.2-AD and ISO 1181Class E Edition 2.1. PANDUIT has designed the TX6 GIG Shielded Copper Cabling System based on straight extrapolation of the ISO 1181 Class E electrical requirements up to MHz whereas the IEEE Draft Std. 82.3an standard has a relaxation in the slope of the electrical specifications starting at 3 MHz for NEXT and PSNEXT. This is the most stringent requirement of standards today ensuring the highest performing system on the market. PANDUIT Systems Deliver Exceptional Headroom The test results shown are based on a 4-connector channel configuration exclusively utilising TX6 GIG Shielded Copper Cabling System components. In full-duplex environments where data is transferred in both directions at the same time, PSNEXT and attenuation are important parameters in distinguishing the wanted signal from unwanted noise generated at the near-end. Power Sum Alien Near-End Crosstalk (PSANEXT) The digital signal processing (DSP) electronics that drive Ethernet over today s cabling systems have limited capability for suppressing alien crosstalk in a Gb/sec Ethernet environment. In order to achieve a Gb/sec data rate, alien crosstalk must be compensated for within the cable, connectors and patch cords of a cabling system, thereby achieving end-to-end system integrity and performance. PSANEXT is the sum of alien crosstalk noise at the near end that comes from neighbouring cables. When the signal between the noise emitting and receiving pairs egresses one cable boundary and crosses another cable boundary, the noise becomes alien crosstalk noise. This effect of alien crosstalk is minimised in shielded cables, as the signals cannot readily pass through the shield. When this concept is taken further and each pair of the cable is shielded, the noise reduction is maximised, both between pairs within the cable and from neighbouring cables. 11 SA-COCB12-GBoversizeA4(TXShielded).qxd 8/29/5 5:46 PM Page 11 Power Sum ACR is the difference between the total unwanted internal signal coupling (PSNEXT) from a transmitter at the near-end into a neighbouring pair also at the near-end and the attenuated signal strength after loss in the cabling system. In full-duplex environments where data is transferred in both directions at the same time, PSNEXT and attenuation are important parameters in distinguishing the signal from noise generated at the near-end. Power Sum ELFEXT (PSELFEXT) is the ratio of the amount of signal coupled onto a fourth pair at the receiving end when the three other pairs are transmitted, relative to the attenuated signal strength at the receiving end of the powered signal. Simply, PSELFEXT is a measure of the total crosstalk that is seen at the receiving transmitted signal. Return Loss is the ratio of the amount of signal that is reflected back at the transmitter relative to the original signal sent due to impedance mismatches in the cabling system. Reflected signals in a channel can also distort the data signal from both the transmitter and receiver. PANDUIT has centred all of the components around Ohms to minimise reflections and maximise signals at the receiving end.
