15 Getting an IPv6 allocation To qualify, an organisation must: - Be an LIR - Have a plan for making assignments within two years - 38% of Belgium LIRs don t have an IPv6 allocation Minimum allocation size /32 - Up to a /29 without additional justification - More if justified by customer numbers 15

16 Customer assignments Give your customers enough addresses - Up to a /48 For more addresses, send in request form - Alternatively, make a sub-allocation Every assignment must be registered in the RIPE database 16

23 Provider Independent Assignments PI assignments in IPv6 Must have a contract with a member of RIPE NCC Minimum assignment size is a /48 More if there is justified need No sub-assignments are allowed Not even a single address for the connection If you have customers, you can not use PI for them 23

29 How About a 5th Star? Is IPv6 address space in actual use? Need a metric that is hard to fake Different measurements for different networks Content providers Access providers 29

30 5th Star for Content All the websites for 1 LIR on the Alexa 1M list How many are available over IPv6 Higher ranking sites weigh more If at least 2%of all weighted content is available over IPv6, the LIR gets listed 30
