1 Getting Started With the Service This chapter provides information about how Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model works. A workflow to set up this service is provided to help you get started. Topics About the Service Connectivity Options for the Service Terminology Typical Workflow for Using the Service About the Service Use Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect to access your Oracle Cloud services using a direct connection from your premises or colocation facilities. When you use this service, your network traffic is routed over a direct and deterministic path from your network to the Oracle Cloud services in the locations where you establish this connectivity, so your data is not transported over the public Internet. This service delivers consistent performance, provides dedicated bandwidth, and renders controlled or reduced latency. Note: You should order Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect Port speed 1Gbps or Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect Port speed 10Gbps to use this service. More details on the ordering process are documented in the sections below. Once you order the service, you will need to choose between one of the following service models to establish a connection: Partner Edition: Connect through an Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect partner, such as an IP VPN or MPLS VPN network service provider or data center exchange provider. Partners use their own Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) peering to connect your network to Oracle Cloud services through Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect. You don t need to supply public BGP peering for your traffic. Your traffic is isolated from other customers of this service with layer-2 Ethernet VLAN, called a virtual circuit. See Getting Started With the Service in Using Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect Partner Edition. Standard Edition: Connect in one of the following ways: Getting Started With the Service 1-1

About the Service If your data center is colocated with the Oracle data center, connect through a direct cross connect between your network routers and Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect edge routers. If your data center is not colocated with the Oracle data center, contact your network service provider to order a private link from your data center to the Oracle data center at the location where your Oracle Cloud IaaS and PaaS services are provisioned. Traffic is routed to and from Oracle Cloud services using BGP. You will supply your own BGP peering to peer directly to Oracle Cloud services through Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect. Establishing a direct connection from your premises to Oracle Cloud helps in the following ways: You can access your Oracle Cloud services over a direct and dedicated connection, without having to traverse the public Internet. Transferring data over a direct connection provides better privacy than transferring data over the public Internet. You can transfer large volumes of data using high WAN bandwidth. Migrating your Internet traffic to a dedicated path improves the overall performance, significantly reduces the time taken to complete data transfers, and also reduces the latency if you are colocated with an Oracle data center. Features Standard layer-3 routing: Leverages the Border Gateway Protocol to manage the exchange of routes between Oracle Cloud and your DMZ or public-facing network. Dedicated bandwidth: Access your Oracle Cloud services, as well as transfer large volumes of data between your private clouds and the Oracle Cloud, over a dedicated data connection. The entire assigned bandwidth is available exclusively for your use. Reliable: Delivered as a fully redundant service with two physical connections from your network edge to Oracle edge network to ensure high level of availability. Non-metered usage: Offers unlimited data transfer between your network and Oracle Cloud. Multiple port speed: Offers 1-Gbps and 10-Gbps connection speed options. Availability Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect supports access to Oracle Cloud IaaS and PaaS services. Not all listed Oracle Cloud services are supported in each city. 9 Terminology Oracle Big Data Cloud Service Oracle Database Cloud - Database as a Service Terminology The following table lists and describes the key terms used in Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model. Term Throughput Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) Autonomous System Number (ASN) Colocated data center Remote data center Internet Routing Registry (IRR) Regional Internet Registry (RIR) LC connector Definition The number of gigabits of data that can be sent per second through Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model. The protocol that s used to share routing information between two networks. See An Autonomous System Number or ASN is used in the Internet to identify either a single network or a group of networks managed and controlled by a common network administrative entity (which could be an Internet Service Provider, a business enterprise, an institute for example). An autonomous system is a routing domain that is managed by the network administrator of that domain. The autonomous system is assigned a globally unique number that is referred to as the Autonomous System Number (ASN). See When your data center is located in the Oracle data center in your city, so that the data centers share common facilities. When your data center and the Oracle data center don t share common facilities. The IRR provides a mechanism for mapping an origin AS number to a list of networks or validating the contents of BGP announcement messages. See RIRs administer and register IP addresses and ASN numbers within a region. See A type of fibre optic connector. See connid.htm. Typical Workflow for Using the Service To start using Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model complete the following tasks. Task Ensure that you have the required hardware and software. Order Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model. More Information Prerequisites Ordering Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect Getting Started With the Service 1-3

Connectivity Options for the Service Task Provide information about your network to Oracle to establish peering with Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model. Set up a physical connection to the Oracle routers. Configure your network edge routers based on the configuration details received from Oracle and establish peering with AS7160. Test and validate routing. More Information Providing Information About Your Network If your data center is colocated with the Oracle data center, order cross connects. See Connecting to Oracle Routers Within a Colocated Data Center. If your data center is not colocated with the Oracle data center, order a network circuit. See Ordering Your Network Circuit. Configuring Your Routers Testing Your Connection Connectivity Options for the Service You can access your Oracle Cloud IaaS and PaaS services over a direct connection through a network service provider if you are connecting from a remote location or through a direct cross connect if your infrastructure is colocated with an Oracle data center. Connecting Through a Colocated Oracle Data Center Connecting From a Remote Data Center After you set up this service and configure your routers, data to your Oracle Cloud IaaS and PaaS services is sent over the direct connection and not over the public Internet. This includes data that is transmitted over an IPSec channel between your data center and the instances in your Oracle Compute Cloud Service site. This service is set up to ensure high availability. When you order this service, Oracle provisions two redundant ports for you to connect to. To achieve end-to-end redundancy from your network edge and to obtain the service level agreement (SLA) of 99.9%, Oracle recommends that you order redundant circuits or lines from your network service provider along with separate physical cross connects to the Oracle edge routers from redundant routers in your network. You must also establish two redundant BGP peers. It is not mandated to set up two physical cross connects, but you forfeit the SLA of 99.9% if you only have one physical cross connect and one BGP peer. Connecting Through a Colocated Oracle Data Center You must order Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model at the location where your Oracle Cloud IaaS and PaaS services are provisioned and work with your data center provider to provision a fiber cross connect at this location. The following figure shows how data is exchanged between your network and Oracle Cloud when your data center is colocated with the Oracle data center that hosts your IaaS and PaaS services. Let's consider that you want to access Oracle Storage Cloud 1-4 Oracle Cloud Using Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect Standard Edition

Connectivity Options for the Service Service over a private data connection and not through the public Internet. Your Oracle Storage Cloud Service account is provisioned at the Chicago data center, and your data center is colocated with the Oracle data center in Chicago. As your Oracle Storage Cloud Service account is provisioned at the Chicago data center, you can use Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model and establish connectivity through a physical cross connect provisioned by the data center provider in Chicago. After ordering Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model with the appropriate port speed, work with the data center provider to provision a cross connect to the Oracle edge router. Your data is transported over the cross connects that you have ordered. Oracle provides the necessary configuration information for your network equipment to connect to Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model. Your network administrator configures the router using information obtained from Oracle. You need a valid public Autonomous System Number (ASN) to establish peering with the colocated Oracle Getting Started With the Service 1-5

Connectivity Options for the Service data center and valid public IP prefixes. If you do not have a registered public ASN, you can use private ASNs or use the fixed ASN provided by Oracle. Routers in your network use the Border Gateway Protocol to exchange routing information with the Oracle data center. This permits routes to be exchanged between your network and Oracle Cloud. After configuring your network routers, advertise your valid public IP prefixes over this connection for bidirectional connectivity. Connecting From a Remote Data Center You can connect from your remote data center to access your Oracle Cloud IaaS and PaaS services using Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model. You must order Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model at the location where your Oracle Cloud IaaS and PaaS services are provisioned and connect through a network service provider. This service provides a direct and deterministic path from your network to the Oracle Cloud IaaS and PaaS services, so your data is not transported over the public Internet. This service delivers consistent performance, provides dedicated bandwidth, and renders controlled or reduced latency. What is Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Partner Edition service model? Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Partner Edition service model is offered through a partner, such as an IP VPN, MPLS VPN network service provider, or data center exchange provider. This provides you a simple and standard method of connecting with Oracle. It uses the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) to exchange routing information with your network through the partner. This enables you to access your Oracle Cloud IaaS and PaaS services over a more direct path as an alternative to using the public Internet. See About the Service in Using Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect Partner Edition. What are the benefits of using Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model? Establishing a direct connection from your premises to Oracle Cloud helps in the following ways: You can access your Oracle Cloud services over a direct and dedicated connection, without having to traverse the public Internet. Transferring data over a direct connection provides better privacy than transferring data over the public Internet. You can transfer large volumes of data using high WAN bandwidth. Migrating your Internet traffic to a dedicated path improves the overall performance, significantly reduces the time taken to complete data transfers, and also reduces the latency if you are colocated with an Oracle data center. Frequently Asked Questions 3-3

How does Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model Work? See Connectivity Options for the Service. What is the difference between Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model and Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect Partner Edition? Using Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model, you can connect your edge routers directly to the Oracle edge routers in a specific data center location and establish a BGP peering session directly with Oracle. With Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect Partner Edition, your connectivity to Oracle Cloud services is provisioned through a partner, such as Equinix Cloud Exchange or MPLS VPN providers. For which Oracle Cloud services can I use Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model? Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect supports access to Oracle Cloud IaaS and PaaS services. Not all listed Oracle Cloud services are supported in each city. Contact your Oracle Sales representative for information about the Oracle Cloud services that you can access in your city. Here s a list of some of the Oracle Cloud IaaS and PaaS services that you can access. For the complete list of Oracle Cloud IaaS and PaaS services, see Where is this service available? For the most up-to-date listing of where this service is available, contact your Oracle Sales representative. What are the prerequisites for setting up Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model? See Prerequisites. Is it required to colocate within an Oracle data center to use Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model? It is not mandatory for your data center to be colocated with an Oracle data center. However, you must connect to the Oracle data center in the city where your Oracle Cloud Service is provisioned. This is achieved using fiber cross connects when you are colocated with the Oracle data center. Can I use Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model if my network equipment is not colocated with an Oracle data center? Yes. You can still use the service by using a regional carrier or network service provider to extend your network from your premises or datacenter to the Oracle data center. Contact your network service provider to order an Ethernet private line in the appropriate city where your Oracle Cloud service is provisioned. 3-4 Oracle Cloud Using Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect Standard Edition

Will Oracle provide the network link from the Oracle edge routers to my premises if I decide to use Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model? No. You must work with your network service provider to order the necessary private line from your premises to the Oracle facilities. How do I sign up for Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model? Contact your Oracle Sales representative to order the service. See Ordering Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect. What equipment do I need to use to connect to Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model? You require network equipment capable of supporting layer-3 routing using the Border Gateway Protocol and VLAN tagging using 802.1Q. Are the connections to Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model redundant? Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model is set up to ensure high availability. When you order this service, Oracle provisions two redundant ports for you to connect to. To achieve end-to-end redundancy from your network edge and to obtain the service level agreement (SLA) of 99.9%, you must order redundant circuits or lines from your network service provider along with separate physical cross connects to the Oracle edge routers from redundant routers in your network. You must also establish two redundant BGP peers. It is not mandated to set up two physical cross connects, but you forfeit the SLA of 99.9% if you only have one physical cross connect and one BGP peer. What are the required network configurations to use Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model? After receiving the configuration information from Oracle, establish logical connectivity and set up BGP routing configurations on your edge routers. Complete any additional configurations within your environment to manage the traffic flow across Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model. Oracle advertises its IPv4 prefixes over the BGP peer with your routers and you ll need to accept those prefixes and configure the required priority for the traffic to specific end points for your services over the FastConnect peer with Oracle. Is my BGP session with Oracle secure? Yes. You can use a pre-shared key for the BGP session while setting up the connection. Can I advertise private IP addresses to Oracle using Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model? No. You must advertise publicly routable IP addresses over your peering session with Oracle. Frequently Asked Questions 3-5

I don t have public IP prefixes registered with IRR or RIR under my organization name. Can I still advertise these? This is reviewed and approved by Oracle on a case-by-case basis. You must submit the request through the Oracle Account team. While submitting the request, provide information about who owns the public prefixes and the business reason for using them. What are the limitations on the number of routes that I can advertise using Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model? You can advertise a maximum of 200 IPv4 prefixes over the BGP peering for Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model. Will my connectivity fail if my link to Oracle data center fails? If you have configured redundant connections from your network edge to the Oracle data center and only one of your links fails, you won t lose connectivity. If both your links to the Oracle data center fail, you won t be able to use Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model till the connectivity is restored. You ll need to establish and test the appropriate configurations on your routers to ensure that you will not lose connectivity if a link fails. Even if both your links to Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model fail, you won t lose access to Oracle Cloud services as they ll still be available through the public Internet. You can reconfigure your routers to route traffic related to your Oracle Cloud IaaS and PaaS services through the public Internet. You ll need to establish and test the appropriate configurations and procedures to ensure uninterrupted access to your Oracle Cloud IaaS and PaaS services over the public Internet even when both your links to Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect fail. When I connect to Oracle using Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model using redundant cross connects or private lines, are both the lines active for exchange of traffic? Yes. Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect with Standard Edition service model is configured as active-active for the two links. Both BGP sessions on the two links are up and active and can pass traffic at any time to provide high availability. You must configure your BGP routing to pass traffic through only one link at a time. You should also set your BGP local preference so traffic back to Oracle FastConnect is routed to the primary link. The secondary link is used only if the connection through the primary link or router fails. If I order a redundant connection, will the FastConnect ID for the redundant connection be different? No. The FastConnect ID that you receive when Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect is provisioned is valid for a redundant pair of connections at a location. 3-6 Oracle Cloud Using Oracle Network Cloud Service - FastConnect Standard Edition
