The Market Wants Bandwidth Demand for bandwidth on the Internet doubles every 20 months. Users enjoy new services with increasing frequency for the sheer convenience of it all. These services range from IPTV or video on demand to online games or Internet storage of several personnel data. Cloud applications and software as a service are becoming daily routines in offices and in industry because they simplify processes. The media, trade and financial sectors send millions of data records around the globe every second to serve the markets. Consequently, fast network connections are among the basic needs of the population in many countries. The choice of company sites increasingly depends on the availability of data highways. In the future we can look forward to smart cities in which traffic, transport, energy and information will be controlled intelligently, along with further Internet applications such as e-health, e-learning and e-government. The trend to the Gigabit Society requires even more powerful and stable networks with loss-free signal transmission. What can network operators do to satisfy this demand? How can we be guaranteed reliable broadband infrastructures capable of meeting future needs? Bandwidth Mbit/s DOCSIS 2 Basic Internet Browsing Always the same question will we need that much bandwith? ISDN 0.28 DSL -2 P2P music sharing ADSL - IPTV Video Streaming Video-ondemand ADSL2+, VDSL 2-0 HD TV 3D in multiplayer gaming DOCSIS 3 VDSL+ Bonding Vectoring Phantoming 0-00 True HD Remote hosting 3D TV and full interaction solutions Multiple streaming HD/3D TV Mass market cloud computing Full-scale 3D emulation >20 Full 3D virtual collaboration (real-time voice and 3D holography) Other services yet to be invented!!! 3 Network Operators Need Answers These are dynamic times for network operators. They have further challenges to meet besides just the growing demand for bandwidth. What is the correct architecture for fiber optic networks? Has this question been answered yet? Should the topology be P2P or P2MP? Will these networks be expanded as underground or above-ground systems? Each decision has to be carefully thought through. The main issue is to meet the demands of the future. The equipment being installed today should work trouble-free for decades to come. New technologies are entering the market all the time: hybrid technologies such as vectoring, G.fast and DOCSIS, but also new transmission methods such as TWDM in the next generation PON... evolution is proceeding apace. Which system will prove most effective? Is it better to wait or to invest now? The technology that is selected will in any case influence the network infrastructure. There are detailed planning questions at stake, which R&M can answer. solution will want the right partners by their side. Who provides competent advice? Where can competent workers for construction and operations be found? Who can ensure the quality of the installation work? Network operators also want reliable answers to economic questions. Can the total cost of ownership be calculated in a clearcut way? Is the investment fully scalable to match demand? Can new advances be easily integrated? How much time is needed to build distributors and to install inhouse connections? It is equally important to consider the issue of operating costs. Which cabling systems offer the highest productivity and availability, the best subscriber management or the lowest maintenance costs? Ask R&M. Type of network topologies P2P or P2MP Packing densities / Type of connector technologies Reserve performance capabilities (attenuation budgets) Scalability of the network (invest as you grow) Total cost of ownership (Capex vs. Opex) Improvement of installation quality Companies wanting to start by rolling out a well-conceived FTTX
???????? Complete Solutions for all Networks R&M is a complete provider with a consistent system approach for copper and fiber-optic technology. As such, it will accompany the network operators into the FTTX era. Innovative and proven cabling solutions are available for all levels, from distribution centers to home or building connections. R&M leads its partners to success with its expertise from numerous carrier projects and all-round service. All R&M systems are based on modular principles. The distributor and connection technologies have a modular design and are perfectly compatible with each other. That means they can be deployed flexibly in accordance with the needs of the given market and site. Partners also retain all options when selecting network architectures, expansion strategies and access models. Owing to their modular design, the systems are readily scalable and open to new technologies such as up-and-coming wavelength division multiplexing (WDM PON). In other words, partners invest only in what they really need. High availability and performance of the networks is assured by Swiss quality, the industry-leading R&M standards and advanced security and safety features. At R&M, each part is individually tested for all relevant parameters before leaving the factory. Efficient quick-assembly technology is one of the fundamental traits of R&M solutions. It eliminates the need for tools in many cases and shortens installation and service procedures by as much as 30 %. Easy-to-install innovations from R&M simplify fiber and subscriber management and the handling of optical connection technology. Core components such as splice and patch units can be used multiple times. This feature noticeably reduces the expense and effort that go into learning about and installing the equipment, while greatly simplifying logistics. The all-round service begins with customer-specific adjustments and the provision of fully pre-terminated, factory-tested units. It extends to consulting services for network planning support and solution evaluation. With the training and certification of the technical personnel, R&M ensures the quality of the installation. Support services accompany the network operators over the entire life cycle of their FTTX installations. How to improve TCO with Layer? Simplify logistics by multiple usable modular products up to 30% installation time reductions Professional consulting during the planning Maintenance reduction by easy handling and clear fiber arrangement Training & certification of installers First time right
Central Office Out of the Box A high-performance distribution central office is the basis for every FTTX strategy. Network operators who can rely fully on their hubs can be proactive and confident when conducting business on the market. An uncomplicated out-of-the-box solution is ideal for them. They should be able to set up big distributors effortlessly, expand them seamlessly and operate them trouble-free. And they can do just that thanks to perfectly coordinated modular systems and planning assistance from R&M. The ODF SCM (optical distribution frame with the single circuit management system) is the main component of the distribution system. It is configured in five minutes, set up with a flick of the wrist and fitted with pre-terminated modules. The ODF SCM then hits the starting line all set to go. The distribution system is suitable for P2P, P2MP and xwdm applications. All standard commercial FO cable types today can be connected trouble-free to the main distributor frame. Moreover, high packing densities involving more than 2,300 fibers can be easily accommodated & handled. The raceway system is like a racetrack for the fiber optic cables in the hub. It can be used to guide cables safely between distributors, active units, inputs and outputs. The components can be joined together with the greatest of ease, based on their modular design. The R&Mfoxs line has the appropriate components for every conceivable application. Splitters can be integrated per splice or simply per connector, no matter whether the single circuit management (SCM) system is employed with its handy modular and tray technology or tried-and-tested 9 units are used. For WAN, back-haul and backbone cabling, the range offers 9 Unirack inserts, among other options. In cases involving hybrid cabling, like: bonding, vectoring, G.Fast etc., network operators can turn to the copper connection technology from the VS range at R&M, moreover remote powering for the active devices is perfectly supported. Modular, flexible solutions «Invest as you Grow» Time and cost saving installation Future proof ready for opcoming technologies like NGPON High density more than 2300 fibers in one rack Pre-terminated Cabling Systems & Patch Cords Panels & Racks Optical Distribution Frame Spliceable & Pre-terminated VS Connection Modules Raceway passive Components
Outside Plant For the toughest Requirements Out in the field everything has to be even safer, more stable and easier to maintain. Outside plant cabling regularly faces the biggest challenges of all. R&M has a complete lineup of correspondingly sturdy street cabinets, closures and small distributors incorporating top-grade connection and distribution technology. The platforms support all cable types, topologies and expansion strategies for fiber optic networks. Street cabinets and cable distributors are the milestones on the road to FTTX and key distribution points for entire towns or neighborhoods. They are equipped with the same compact distributor modules as are used in the central office. With this approach, R&M reduces the expense and effort that go into planning, training and installation. There are design-in-solutions for existing housings and quick-assembly retrofit kits. R&M provides adaptations and pre-terminated modules for special applications, proprietary standards and national specifications. The HD cable distributor has a packing density of more than 3,000 splice connections, which could well be a record. Optimum use can therefore be made of valuable sites requiring permits. R&M has developed the sturdiest enclosures to meet the toughest conditions of use in manholes, on facades and poles. They meet the conditions above the ingress protection rating of IP8. Up to,2 splice connections can be safely stored in the compact covers. Fiber and subscriber management remains convenient and straightforward in spite of this extraordinary packing density. As a result, network operators enjoy tremendous freedom in the approach they take to covering the last mile. Any set of cable inputs can be selected for the bottom of the enclosure. The enclosures also serve as housings for mass splices to connect back-haul or WAN applications. Highest functionality and reliability Easy migration to FO- Hybrid solution (Vectoring/ G. 7 Customer Premises Connection to High-Rises and Residential Complexes 3 2 A connection to one building can open the way to a large number of customers. Access providers can find appealing market opportunities for fiber optic packages in high-rises and large residential complexes. However, they need a scalable cabling system that can be easily adapted to the specific situation of the building. Above all, this system has to simplify fiber and subscriber management so that new subscribers or services can be added and connected quickly. The R&M flexible solutions for big buildings ensure success every time. The versatile Venus Boxes serve as building entry points and are available in varying sizes. They also provide a compact platform for splice and splitter cabling as well as for patch and CWDM cabling in the building. Up to 84 fibers can be supplied with one Venus Box. Cable inputs at both sides of the front simplify installation in riser zones. Stories or apartments can be connected in no time with the fiber optic outlets from R&M. The outlets for splice cabling on customer premises is an ideal solution with its effective fiber guidance, rearside storage space for excess cable lengths and integrated dust protection. The pigtails are safe and sound in a separate chamber next to the connection panel. Ingenious quick-assembly technology helps installers to save time. One click and the Fiber Outlet is solidly connected to the mounting frame. Easy and fast installation Seamless solution Scalable capacities with a wide range of sizes Optimized for low bending fibers IP protected connections 4 Venus Building Entry Points Pre-terminated Plug n Play Installation Kits Optical Termination Outlets ODF Wall Mount Boxes Hybrid Outlets (FO & RJ4) ECOline Building Entry Points / / / / / /
Customer Premises Cabling for Residential Buildings If a network operator wants to supply a large number of small buildings with fiber optic connections, it needs extremely efficient and fast solutions. The task is to hook up entire housing developments in the shortest possible time. R&M has the right solutions, from the small Venus Box for the building entry point to the professional home network. One highlight in the range is the field-terminable connector as an alternative to fusion splicing. It can be connected with fibers in no time at all. This procedure requires no specialized knowledge and can be carried out by an experienced installer on site. The FO minioutlet is especially made for the use of field terminable connectors. This ultra-flat outlet offers robust protection for the connector and sufficient space for extra fibers. Installer friendly Smart, elegant design Cost effective SDU cabling solution Time saving field assembly technology No fusion splice required Space saving design Fiber optic cabling throughout buildings and homes is the wave of the future. Today, people often still select hybrid infrastructures and continue using the coax and twisted-pair copper cabling already in place. R&M has also developed suitable distributors and connection outlets for this approach. That means customers can use different services while at the same time preparing their buildings or homes for subsequent migration to Fiber in the Home.
