2 BROADBAND FOR EVERYONE European countries plan to organize comprehensive broadband connection in every country including low populated and rural areas. The plan is to deliver fast 100 Mbit/s broadband connection within 2 kilometers of all apartments, business and public offices. Broadband in rural and low populated areas is financed partially by EUs development projects and partially by countries themselves. Local telecom companies and installation companies take part in those projects. A broadband network is based on fiber optic transmission technology, in which Orbis has more than 25 years of experience. We both import network components and also have our own production. This catalog includes fiber optic products required for broadband networks. The same product range is suitable also for private networks, for example, in industrial areas. Ground cables Ground cables are used in broadband networks as structured cabling. Orbis represents Sterlite, which is the world s largest single mode fiber optic cable manufacturer. As a general rule there are two main cable types and they are available in different fiber amounts: Type 1: 24/48/96/192/288-fibres cables for direct burial and usually with jacket and corrugated shield from steel tape for grounding Type 2: Lightweight 4 fiber cable for Fiber To The Home applications and ducts See also: Ground Cable Assemblies on page 6. Orbis Fiber Optic Splicing Closures Fiber Optic Splicing Closure (FOSC) is used in the backbone networks for connecting main fiber optic cables to each other and to protect the connection point. Splicing Closures are available for connecting cables with amount of fibers from 48 fibers to 672 fibers. Splicing closures have IP68 protection class and package always includes all installation accessories required. 3 Orbis TeleTila Orbis TeleTila is ready-to-use outdoor distribution cabinet. It is built of strong and high-quality modules for the Nordic environment. Wall structure is light and longevity layered material (sandwich). TeleTila cabinets are available in (4) four sizes and are equipped individually according to customer needs, for example, with batteries, air conditioning devices, with racks, panels and power and fiber cabling. 4 Outdoor Termination Closures Orbis outdoor termination closures are used in backbone cabling splicing to protect optical fibers at the junction in detached houses and in residential properties. Outdoor terminations closures have protection class between IP54-65 and they are always supplied with installation accessories. The most common termination way is a small plastic closure with protective cover and with 4 pcs of SC simplex adapters inside. The bending radius of fiber pigtails is taken into account in the box. 5 Patch cords for outdoor use High-quality patch cords manufactured by Orbis are ideal for demanding conditions. Due to UV protection cables they can be used also in outdoor conditions. For example, the cable can be used from outdoor wall termination closure into the building. Patch cords are available with UPC or APC polishing. Most common patch cords with lengths from 1 to 10 meters are nowadays available directly from stock. 6 Cable Assemblies Cable Assemblies are made in Orbis own production. It includes certain length of fiber optic cable, which in both or one end is terminated with connectors. Connectors are manufactured in industrial way. The connector is assembled around the fiber and the bonding dried in an oven. Finally, the connector is polished and assembled cable is tested both visually and by microscope and technical measuring devices. Extension splicing is not used, so cables have less attenuation noise than cables, which have pigtails spliced to the main cable fibers. On the factory Cable Assemblies can be connected to patch panels or some other enclosures. Connectors in the cable are secured by the pulling protection tube, which is transparent and easily removable plastic tube. Tube is securing connectors from dust as well. Cable Assemblies are delivered, depending on size and application, in boxes, cartons or plywood reels. Advantage of a Cable Assembly is that cables have tested even quality and it speeds up the installation, thus achieving savings in the overall cost of the installation. 7 Pigtails, Adapters and Cleaning accessories All Orbis products meet the overall requirements of network installations. Our portfolio includes pigtails with color kits, both UPC and APC polished, single and multi-mode pigtails as well as suitable adapters and splicing accessories. In the fiber optic network installation the majority of system failures are due to dirty or ailing fiber connectors. Signal flow in an optical fiber may simply be checked by optical power meters and traffic sensors. Fiber Optic connector and adapter faults and purity are revealed by the fiber optic microscope. Optical Fiber Time Domain Reflectometers can more accurately detect and locate network faults and shortcomings in the signal flow. Reflectometers are available in several different models, depending on the measured object.
