Part I Introduction Actiontec s ScreenBeam Wireless Display over LAN software, together with ScreenBeam 960 receiver, brings wireless display capability to the operating systems that do not support Miracast natively, such as Windows 7 and Mac OSX. 1.1 Features Key features include: Supports wireless display for various operating systems Fast and stable connection Secured connection with PIN Supports video and audio streaming 1.2 System Requirements Minimum and recommended system requirements for using the ScreenBeam Wireless display over LAN: Minimum OS: MS Windows 7 with SP2 or Mac OSX (or later) CPU: 4th Gen Intel Core i3 or AMD equivalent/better WiFi: AC Dual-Band 2x2 MEM: 4GB HDD: 100MB Recommended OS: MS Windows 7 with SP2 or Mac OSX (Yosemite, El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra) CPU: 5th Gen Intel Core i5 or AMD equivalent/better WiFi: Intel Dual-Band Wireless AC 726x (or better) MEM: 8GB (or more) HDD: 100MB (or more) 3
ScreenBeam Receiver ScreenBeam 960 receiver with firmware (or later) Network Requirements 100Mbps Ethernet connection is highly recommended for ScreenBeam receiver n/ac Wi-Fi connectivity for the client device (5GHz is highly recommended) Allowed port o Mac OS: Foreign 8554 (TCP) and Local (TCP) o Win 7: Foreign 7236 (TCP) and Local (TCP) VLAN routing might be required if ScreenBeam and Client devices are connected to different VLAN networks. We recommend enabling Quality of Service (QoS) flags on your network and not using ScreenBeam on the same network as Voice over IP (VoIP) Other HDTV/projector with available HDMI or VGA port 1.3 Related Documents To better understand the deployment of ScreenBeam Wireless display over LAN software, we recommend you read the following documents: ScreenBeam receiver (ScreenBeam 960) user guide ScreenBeam Central Management System user guide Note: ScreenBeam Central Management System (CMS) is not required for ScreenBeam Wireless display over LAN, but it is highly recommended for managing ScreenBeam receivers. 4
Part II Setting up the Receiver Verify the ScreenBeam 960 receiver is updated to the latest firmware version (or later). The firmware version is indicated on the Ready to Connect screen at the bottom left corner. You can obtain the latest firmware and update instructions from the ScreenBeam 960 support webpage. Confirm that the support for Wireless display over LAN is enabled on your receiver. Follow the procedures below to enable the support for Wireless display over LAN: 1. Start CMS, and open Receiver Settings. 2. Go to the Features tab, and confirm that Mac OS or Windows 7 is set to Enable in the Wireless display over LAN section. 5
Note: You can also set up the Wireless display over LAN feature in the receiver s Local Management Interface. You need a device that supports Miracast. Refer to the receiver s user manual for details on how to access the receiver s Local Management Interface. We recommend you reboot your receiver though a reboot is not required. 6
Part III Configuring the Network ScreenBeam 960 can support wireless display over the LAN video and audio stream over the Wireless or Wired connection. Wired connection for ScreenBeam 960 is highly recommended as it is more stable and provides larger throughput. Since the stream quality heavily relies on the network s performance, we recommend optimizing your network and wireless APs for bandwidth performance. 3.1 Ethernet Network Gigabit Ethernet is recommended. 3.2 Wireless Network 1. Assure the Wi-Fi coverage is adequate in the area where ScreenBeam 960 receiver is deployed even if the receiver is using wired connection. This will allow the client system to receive the strongest connection signal strength. 2. If the Wireless Access Point(s) broadcast on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, we recommend utilizing 5GHz as it provides faster speed. You can either configure the WAPs to broadcast only 5GHz or the client system to prefer 5GHz connection. Note: 5GHz is faster but 2.4GHz travels further. 3.3 Connecting the Receiver to a network Configuration of the ScreenBeam receiver is required for Static IP or for Wi-Fi network connection. Please refer to the user manual on the ScreenBeam 960 support webpage. In certain network setting, device authentication is required and your network administrator will need the MAC address of the ScreenBeam receiver. This information is available on the label of the receiver s bottom. For wired connection, refer to CMS LAN MAC For wireless connection, refer to CMS WLAN MAC Wired Connection 1. Simply connect the Ethernet cable to the receiver Ethernet port and it should automatic picks up a DHCP IP. 7
2. If a Static IP is required, then you will need to log into the management console to configure this information Wireless Connection 1. Refer to the ScreenBeam 960 User Manual on how to access configure the receiver for wireless network connection. 2. Determine the network ScreenBeam receiver should be connected to and note down the Wi-Fi SSID information. Note: ScreenBeam receiver does not support Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) channel for wireless connectivity. Make sure the wireless APs are configured to support either Non-DFS 5GHz (recommended) or 2.4GHz Verify Network Connection You can find out the IP address of ScreenBeam 960 receiver by going to the receiver s management console and enable the show network information on the TV screen. 3.4 Connecting Client Device to Infrastructure Network Connect the client device to the same LAN where the receiver is connected. Make sure the source device gets a good connection to the AP. The recommended connection signal strength should be good to excellent or beyond -50dBM (RSSI level). Assure the client device and receiver have a low latency by pinging each other. A ping response time below 20ms is good. 8
9
Part IV Setup Topology 4.1 Meeting Room The recommended setup for an office/meeting room is placing ScreenBeam 960 receiver on the Guest network/vlan. This solution allows both the employee and guest to present. If the client system is connected to the Guest s Wi-Fi, the assumption is both are on the same VLAN and there is no additional configuration required. If the client system is connected to the Employee/Internal Wi-Fi, then it s likely both devices are on different VLANs. The network administrator may need to configure the required ports for the Employee client system to communicate and stream to ScreenBeam receiver. 4.2 Classroom The recommended setup for a classroom environment is placing ScreenBeam 960 receiver on a new VLAN dedicated for ScreenBeam. This will allow the teacher/staff member to present. In this scenario, the network administrator must configure the required ports for the Staff client system to communicate and stream to ScreenBeam receiver. 10
Part V Installing Wireless display over LAN Software 5.1 MacOS Installation Configure MacOS for ScreenBeam application 1. Log in as the administrator, open the System Preferences and click on Security & Privacy 2. We need to make sure that we have set the Mac to Allow apps downloaded from Anywhere to be installed. If your Mac is set to Mac App Store or Mac App Store and identified developers you will need to click on the lock icon in the bottom left corner to make changes. 11
3. Enter the password for your account (must be an administrator on the system) to allow changes. Press the Unlock button 4. Select the option for Anywhere under the Allow apps downloaded from menu. You will get a warning popup, click on Allow From Anywhere. 12
5.1.2 Install MacOS application 1) Go to and click on the ScreenBeam 960 product page as you did when you downloaded the firmware for the ScreenBeam in the ScreenBeam Firmware Installation section.
