Introducton Introducton Introducton to MatManager TM System Overvew Pavng Qualty System MatManager s a pavng qualty system that enables the operator to montor and document key qualty parameters of the pavng job. The MatManager keeps track of materal consumpton wth real-tme measurements, so you can ensure that you are on target and prevent materal overruns. It documents how many kg you have put down per m paved, and regsters nstances of stop, start and loadng to document your work flow. Pavng speed, paved dstance and materal temperature, as well as relevant weather parameters such as ar temperature, wnd speed, ar pressure and humdty, are also contnually regstered and presented on the 7 graphcal dsplay. The GPS logs all data wth locaton coordnates to track the exact poston of every pece of regstered data. After completng the pavng job, the operator can export all logged data for data processng and analyss. A prntable report of key data can also be made to valdate that road specfcatons have been met. The MatManager uses a range of dfferent nput sensors mounted on the asphalt paver to measure and calculate the key pavng parameters. The data s collected va the MatManager Interface Box, and presented on the MatManager Control Unt screen. The MatManager TM system contnually undergoes sgnfcant development, and exstng systems can be upgraded wth new features as they are released. The MatManager pavng qualty system conssts of three man system components: A MatManager Control Unt wth a 7 colour dsplay showng all key pavng parameters throughout the job A MatManager Interface Box that gathers and computes all relevant data and nformaton A range of dfferent nput sensors mounted on the asphalt paver There are currently fve dfferent nput sensor types n the MatManager system: Weather staton wth GPS Screed wdth sensor IR Temperature sensor Dstance sensor wth dstance wheel Tamper/Vbrator sensor The MatManager Control Unt and all nput sensors connect to the MatManager Interface Box located centrally on the machne. It s possble to connect the MatManager drectly to the speed or dstance sgnal of the asphalt paver, nstead of usng the dstance sensor and dstance wheel that comes wth the MatManager system. Ths may result n erroneous dstance measurements, and faulty calculatons of the system due to slp, as the wheels or tracks of the paver wll tend to slde slghtly when the paver s movng forward. We strongly recommend the use of the dstance wheel and dstance sensor of the MatManager system for accurate measurements, and are unable to warrant correct system calculatons, f the operator chooses not to do so Fg. - MatManager TM Control Unt dsplays all key pavng parameters throughout the pavng job 8 9

Confguraton Confguraton System Confguratons The MatManager TM system s avalable n two overall system confguratons, dependng on the type of screed wdth sensors selected. The screed wdth sensors can ether be optcal sensors or wrepull sensors, and the preferred choce depends on the type of asphalt paver the system s to be mounted on. 25 Safety Instructon Safety Instructon Asphalt Paver Requrements A pre-condton for the safe use of the MatManager Pavng Qualty System s that the system s only used on asphalt pavers that comply wth applcable safety regulaton. The key safety requrements of asphalt pavers, whch have an nfluence on the safe use of the MatManager Pavng Qualty System s therefore outlned below. Key safety requrements of asphalt pavers for the safe use of the Mat- Manager TM System Wthn the EU the asphalt paver must be CE marked and thereby comply wth the requrements descrbed n EN6004, Safety on Machnery - Electrcal Equpment of Machnes The asphalt paver must be equpped wth an emergency stop that can stop all potentally dangerous parts of the machne, ncludng swtchng off the power supply to the MatManager Pavng Qualty System Key safety requrements for safe nstallaton of the MatManager TM System A form of overcurrent protecton must be nstalled between the power supply of the asphalt paver and the MatManager Pavng Qualty System. Ths should be checked pror to the connecton of the system. The overcurrent protecton s usually bult nto the asphalt paver n the form of a fuse n a central fuse box After nstallng the MatManager Pavng Qualty System on a new asphalt paver, t should be tested that the emergency stop covers the system, so that power supply to the MatManager Pavng Qualty System s swtched off when the emergency stop s actvated MatManager Pavng Qualty System s developed for use on both asphalt pavers wth a V system and asphalt pavers wth a 4V system. The asphalt paver must be able to delver a stable power supply as descrbed n EN6004, for nstance va the battery of the asphalt paver 48 49

Safety Instructon Safety Instructon Correct use The MatManager has been developed as a Pavng Qualty System for asphalt pavers, and correct use therefore entals that the system s used for ths purpose. The operator must: Read and understand the user manual. In case of questons, contact your local representatve When commencng the pavng job, the operator must remember the followng: Avod the stuatons descrbed under Examples of Incorrect Use, p. 5 Avod stuatons descrbed n the total rsk assessment Be aware of the stuatons descrbed under Examples of Incorrect Use p. 5, Warnngs and Dangerous Stuatons p. 53 and be able to avod them Ensure that the MatManager Pavng Qualty System s not damaged Responsblty of the Operator When plannng the pavng job, the operator must remember the followng: Ensure that the MatManager Pavng Qualty System s connected correctly to the asphalt paver Investgate local legslaton regardng road constructon work and the use of protectve equpment requred for the pavng job Inform TF-Technologes or your local representatve, f the MatManager or any of the parts for any reason are not safe to use Place the MatManager Control Unt outsde dangerous areas, so t s safe to operate t Make sure the total rsk assessment of the machne s accessble to everyone workng wth and around the asphalt paver 50 5

Safety Instructon Examples of Incorrect Use The MatManager system should only be used to what t s constructed to, and most examples of ncorrect use are self-explanatory and therefore not descrbed. However, certan key examples of msuse or napproprate behavor are outlned below, and should be avoded. Examples of ncorrect use of the system before the pavng job: Do not remove any of the labels on the MatManager System, as they are requred for product dentfcaton, e.g. n relaton to repar and dsposal Do not open the house of the MatManager TM, as ths wll expose the electroncs and can damage the product No parts of the MatManager Pavng Qualty System must be rebult or refurbshed, as TF-Technologes wll no longer be able to vouch for the qualty, and rebuldng unts may cause serous personal njury or materal damage Examples of ncorrect use of the system durng the pavng job: It s not recommended to connect MatManager TM on a paver, when power s already appled, as the metal jacket on the cable under unfortunate crcumstances may lead to short crcutng the asphalt paver, f the metal jacket hts the two power supply pns at the same tme It s not recommended to nstall the MatManager on an asphalt paver on the move or n operaton, as ths may remove focus from the surroundng traffc, whch may result n serous personal njures Warnngs and Dangerous Stuatons The MatManager Pavng Qualty System must not be used: If the MatManager Pavng Qualty System s obvously damaged If the MatManager Pavng Qualty System has been rebult The MatManager Pavng Qualty System can be damaged: If weldng s performed on the asphalt paver, the Averagng Beam or Support Arm, as large currents may travel through the constructon and damage the electrcal equpment. The followng precautons should be taken before weldng: Remove all electrcal equpment wherever possble Dsconnect the negatve pole on the battery of the asphalt paver, or mount voltage protecton on the battery Place the negatve electrode close to the weldng pont Remove pant before weldng Safety Instructon When cleanng the asphalt paver, e.g. f usng a hgh-pressure cleaner, as ths may expose the MatManager system to too large forces. The MatManager Control Box and mountng must therefore be removed before cleanng the asphalt paver. The Interface Box should be protected and covered wth a plastc bag and the water jet must not be ponted drectly at the MatManager TM Interface Box or sensors when cleanng the asphalt paver 5 53

Safety Instructon Mantenance Mantenance The MatManager Pavng Qualty System can lead to serous personal njury If warnngs from the total rsk assessment are not compled wth If the the MatManager Pavng Qualty System s used n dangerous areas or n dangerous atmospheres/pressure levels, as the system s not desgned to such operaton Emergency Procedure In case of accdents, break-downs or otherwse dangerous stuatons, the followng procedure should be followed: The most mportant part of the mantenance of the MatManager Pavng Qualty System s to keep all parts clean, dry and drt free. Remember to follow the cleanng nstructons, as ncorrect cleanng agents or too large forces can damage the equpment and cause degradng functonalty. It s recommended to nspect all parts after use: Part Exposed Inspecton Frequency Acton Cables Connectors on MatManager TM Control Box, Interface Box, Sensors and Cables Dsplay and Buttons Mechancal damage After use Replace cable Wet connectors After use Wpe off wth dry cloth Drty After use Clean wth water or benzne Mechancal damage After use Replace cable/ Replace connector on Mat- Manager TM Control Box, Interface Box and/or sensors Drty After use Clean wth water or screen cleaner Mechancal damage After use Replace MatManager TM Control Box Press emergency stop Turn off the asphalt paver and remove the key Dsconnect the cable between the MatManager Pavng Qualty System and the asphalt paver Commence repar Generally for MatManager TM Wet After use Wpe off wth dry cloth before storng Insgnfcant mechancal After use Contnue use damage Sgnfcant mechancal After use Damaged parts should be damage repared or replaced Drty After use Clean wth water or benzne 54 55

Mantenance Mantenance Servce and Repar In case of problems wth the MatManager Pavng Qualty System, please see Troubleshootng, p. 60, provdng answers to the most common problems. If problems persst, contact TF-Technologes or your local representatve for assstance. Do not attempt to repar the equpment yourself. Replacement of connectors, dsplay or any other parts must be undertaken by TF-Technologes or an apponted servce representatve of TF-Technologes. Contact your local representatve for further nformaton Servce and repar of the MatManager, sensors, cables or other parts of the MatManager Pavng Qualty System undertaken by anyone else than TF-Technologes or an apponted servce representatve of TF-Technologes can result n damaged equpment Transport Advce on transport of the MatManager system: The MatManager system should be transported n a sutable carry case, where all parts rest frmly wthout beng able to clash aganst each other. The use of MatManager Carry Cases wth custom-cut foam s recommended The transport case must protect the equpment from shock and pressure, as the MatManager system s often transported together wth heavy equpment for the pavng job When recevng the MatManager system, the followng should be nspected: The MatManager TM system s always any damaged parts, we wll fnd out durng delvered and nstalled by traned servce nstallaton and test and replace on personnel from TF-Technologes the spot. However, t s always advsed or a partner apponted and traned by to make sure yourself, that dsplay, cables TF-Technologes. Upon delvery, every and mountngs are ntact. And also sensor s nstalled and tested. The system check the Control Box for label and any s confgured and tested to work. loose connectons. If, aganst all expectatons, there are In the unlkely event parts of the MatManager system have been damaged at recepton, the followng s recommended: Inform seller rght away Document any potental damage n the form of text and pctures Do not use damaged products Storage Advce on storage of the MatManager system: For long-term storage, the MatManager system should be kept dry and out of drect sunlght Notce that hgh temperatures can be obtaned by storng the MatManager system n a non-ventlated car n the summer If the MatManager system s packed up wet, the Carry Case should not be completely closed. Both Carry Case and content should be wped dry before the Carry Case s completely closed and put n storage 56 57

Mantenance Mantenance Cleanng It s mportant that the MatManager system s cleaned often, so that t does not lose functonalty. However, napproprate cleanng agents or an ncorrect cleanng method can damage the equpment and cause degradng functonalty. It s generally recommended to use a dry cloth wth a lttle water or benzne, as the equpment s secured aganst water, and because benzne evaporates quckly. A quck evaporaton ensures that the benzne does not collect n nooks and crannes and has long-term dssolvng effects, as can be the case wth other cleanng agents. Only use water or screen cleaner, not benzne, for cleanng the dsplay on the MatManager TM screen Please note that benzne s an organc dssolvent, whch s flammable and harmful to health and envronment. I must therefore be used responsbly and wth respect for ts harmful effects. The operator should follow these nstructons before use: Never use cellulose thnner or acetone, as these dssolve pant and plastc respectvely, whch wll degrade the functonalty of the equpment. Other cleanng agents can also be harmful, but experence shows that these two n partcular should be avoded Never use a hgh-pressure cleaner to remove drt, as t wll expose the equpment to too large forces When mechancally rnsng the equpment, no scrapng must be undertaken on the dsplay or connectors as these parts are partcularly senstve Follow the nstructons on the bottle of benzne Always use as lttle as possble Avod breathng vapors and drect contact wth the skn Use of benzne to clean cables can make the wrtng on the cables dsappear, but the cables wll not be damaged When cleanng wth fluds, only small amounts should be dapped on the areas to be cleaned, and these areas should be wped wth a dry cloth afterwards. The equpment must never be submerged n chemcal lquds or exposed to cleanng agents n larger quanttes, as the fluds can gather n nooks and crannes and have long-term dssolvng effects. Be partcularly aware of: No parts of the MatManager system should be submerged n fluds as t may gather n nooks and crannes Dsposal When dsposng the MatManager system the equpment must be treated as electronc waste n complance wth the local regulatons of the country n whch the equpment s dsposed. The responsblty for safe and approprate dsposal s transferred to the buyer n the sale of the MatManager system
