There are given here the most appropriate ways of dealing with this device, the basic principles of safety and maintenance. Please also keep the user manual so that you can read it during later use. Remember! The manufacturer is not liable for any damage caused by improper use of the device for its intended purpose or improper handling, as well as fault driver resulting from improper use.

4 1 Purpose of the device The RFID-USB-DESK (MIF) Reader reads code from MIFARE standard transponders which sends the unique, 4.7 or 10 bytes code. Depending on configuration, the device can act as a standard keyboard or a virtual serial port (Virtual Com Port). 2 Warranty and liability of the manufacturer The manufacturer provides a 2-year warranty on the module. The manufacturer also provides post-warranty service for 10 years from the date of the introducing the module on the market. The warranty covers all defects in material and workmanship The manufacturer undertakes to comply with the contract of guarantee, if the following conditions are met:: all repairs, alterations, extensions and device calibrations are performed by the manufacturer or authorized service, supply network installation meets applicable standards in this regard, the device is operated in accordance with the recommendations outlined in this manual the device is used as intended. ProThe manufacturer assumes no responsibility for consequences resulting from improper installation, improper use of the module, not following this manual and the repairs of the module by individuals without permission. This device doesn t contain serviceable parts. The repairs can be done only by manufacturers approved repair service.

5 3 Safety guidelines The module has been constructed using modern electronic components, according to the latest trends in the global electronics. 3.1 Power supply The module is adapted to power directly from the USB port. 3.2 Storage, working environment and transportation The module has to be used in closed environments free from fumes and corrosive atmosphere. Environmental conditions for storage: temperature + 5 C +45 C, relative humidity does not exceed 75%, atmospheric pressure hPa. The device is designed to operate under the following conditions: temperature +10 C +30 C, relative humidity 30% 75%, atmospheric pressure hPa. Recommended conditions for transportation: temperature -10 C +45 C, humidity 20 95%, atmospheric pressure hPa. 3.3 Installation and use of the module The module should be used following the guidelines shown in next part of the user manual. 3.4 Utilisation of the module When it becomes necessary to liquidate the device (e.g., after the time of use), please contact the manufacturer or its representative, who are obliged to respond appropriately, i.e., collecting the module from the user. You can also ask the companies involved in

6 utilization and / or liquidation of electrical or computer equipment. Under no circumstances should you place the device along with other garbage 4 Construction of the device 4.1 General Features The reader is equipped with a USB port that supports class CDC (virtual com port) and HID (keyboard). The device is also equipped with three LED and beeper which can be assigned functions: ON continuously on OFF continuously off ON Read switching on for 0.5 second after the correct reading of the card code Technical data: Supply voltage: USB 5VDC (the device is powered from the USB port of a computer) Transponders: Standard of supported transponders: MIFARE Frequency: 13,56 MHz Reading distance: approximately 10cm Communication: USB port (keyboard emulation or a virtual COM port)

8 5. Configuration Once installed, the setup program Mifare RFIDdesk Config and run it, connect the USB cable to the computer and the module. Figure 1. Window view

9 When the reader is detected in the system (USB Status: Connected) user can proceed to its configuration. Operating mode: USB mode: USB Keyboard Emulator the reader in the system will appear as a standard USB keyboard. Approaching the card, enters tag code in apropriet format, in active window. USB mode: Virtual Com Port the reader in the system will be visible as a virtual serial port. After approaching the card, the device sends tag code, in chosen format to apropriet COM port. Buzzer: Depending on the selected option, beeper placed on the device, after reading the card code can make a sound. LED1 - indicates connected power (in its basic configuration) LED2 unused (in its basic configuration) LED3 informing about the correct reading of the card code (in its basic configuration) For each of the LEDs can be assigned to event: ON LED continuous light OFF LED is not lit ON Read LED lights up for 1 second after a correct reading of the card code. Prefix a series that precedes the card code Postfix a series that closes the card code Output Format the format in which it will display the card code: Binary code in binary form only VCP HEX LowerCase Letter code in hexadecimal format with lowercase letters HEX UpperCase Letter code in hexadecimal format with capital letters HEX UpperCase Letter Minus code in hexadecimal format with capital letters and cons separating bytes of code Decimal converts the read code to decimal

11 6. Examples of configuration 6.1 Keyboard emulator Tags in the MIFARE standard can have lengths of 4, 7 and 10 bytes. If the Output Options AND field is highlighted in yellow, this means that the last read tag has fewer bytes of code than the one selected. In our examples, we will use two cards with numbers: 7 bytes: F E0-04 (read in the examples first) and 4 bytes: 0A-E8-FB-A6 Keyboard emulation, sending prefix "kod karty:" card number and enter:

12 After applying the card, we get: kod karty: F E0-04 and go to the next line by using the postfix ENTER (\ n) Shortening the bytes of the code and adding zero bytes The effects of reading our cards for individual configurations of the AND and PADDING options F A-E8-FB-A6-00 AND - Tag code truncated to 5 bytes (the 4 byte tag has not been shortened) PADDING - Adding zero bytes to make the code 7 bytes)

15 6.2 Virtual com port Applying the card sends its code to the virtual serial port. It is possible to control the beeper and LED diodes. Sending a byte to the virtual serial port causes the appropriate response: Meaning of the bits of the byte sent: BIT Meaning LED3 LED2 LED1
