2 The E-STOP switch button on your Novakon CNC Control Pendant only provides Emergency STOP signal to Mach3 CNC application. For further protection in CNC operation, other emergency protection methods may be needed. 2

4 PLUG-IN Download the latest Novakon MPG Plug-in from download page. Move the plug-in file to Mach3 Plug-in s directory. Start Mach3 application. Click Config from menu, select Config Plug-ins, and enable Novakon P3-Pendant. Close Mach3 application and restart Mach3 application. CONNECTION Directly plug the USB end of the cable into any USB port in the PC. Start Mach3 application. FUNCTIONS AND OPERATIONS Axis Selection Press side button to select axis to move. Steady-on LED indicates the selected axis. Single clicking the side button will select the next axis downwards. Double clicking the side button will select the next axis upwards. 4

5 Single clicking the side button means pressing and releasing the side button within 0.5 second. The action is similar to single clicking a button on Mach3 screen. Double clicking the side button requires pressing and releasing the side button twice within 0.5 to 1 second. Selecting the next axis downwards means the next axis to be selected after single clicking action will be the one below the currently selected axis. For example, if current axis is X, then it will be Y after a single clicking. If current axis is A, then it will be X. MPG MODE SELECTION Turn mode selection knob to select MPG and control mode. To make the axis move on currently selected axis chose: To increase or decrease the rate select: For operation control select: 5

6 Turn MPG wheel in clockwise direction or counter clockwise direction to move axis toward positive direction or negative direction. Turn MPG wheel in clockwise direction or counter clockwise direction to increase or decrease the rate. Step Mode MPG One step per MPG click (detent). Step size can be set up and changed in Mach3 Screen. Default size is Double clicking the stop button while in mode, will change the step size in a cycle of >0.001->0.01 When using larger step size, turn the MPG wheel at proper speed or wait for machine to finish one step before making another click. Turning MPG too fast and make too many steps will back up steps and the machine will continue running for some time after MPG stops. If a longer movement needed, consider to use Velocity mode jogging. Velocity Mode MPG Provides axis movement at 0 to 100% of maximum rapid speed, depending on how fast the hand wheel is turned. Continuous Mode MPG Moves axis at Slow Jog Rate. The axis movement is independent to the speed the MPG is turned, providing a stable axis movement. 6

7 To avoid accidentally moving MPG in mode, axis movement starts only after 1 turn (100 clicks) of MPG wheel. The Slow Jog Rate can be changed using C% mode MPG or in Mach3 Screen. Slow Jog Rate Mode MPG Changes the speed used in mode. The rate is displayed in Slow Jog Rate DRO (Digital Read-Outs) in Mach3 Screen. Feed Rate Mode MPG Changes feed rate overridden rate from 1% to 250 %. Feed rate can be changed when axes are moving. Spindle Speed Mode MPG Changes spindle speed overridden rate up and down in the range of 1% to 250 %. Spindle speed can be changed when the spindle is running. Action Mode MPG In the Action mode, pressing and holding the side button and double clicking the yellow stop button will reference the currently selected button. Also while in Action mode, double clicking the yellow stop button will zero the currently selected axis. 7

8 Double clicking side button requires pressing and releasing side button twice within 0.5 to 1 second. The action is similar to double clicking a button on Mach3 screen. Referencing currently selected axis means to set the origin of the axis in Machine Coordinate. The action depends on how the home switch is defined and configured. (See Mach3 manual for details) Zeroing the currently selected axis will set the current position of the axis to zero by changing the axis offset in current Work Coordinate. See Mach3 manual for details. Function Buttons These buttons are reserved for future add-on Functions. They can be used to start user defined Macro or simulate Mach3 Screen buttons OPERATIONS Spindle ON/OFF This push button simulates the function of the Spindle button on Mach3 Screen. When the Spindle is off, pushing the button will start the Spindle & vies versa. Pressing and holding the side button at the same time is needed. When Spindle is on, LED embedded in the Spindle button flashes at ½ second rate. 8

9 START/HOLD Button Pushing this button simulates the function of Cycle Start and Feed Hold button on Mach3 Screen. Pressing and holding the side button at the same time is needed. Cycle Start and Feed Hold share the same button. When program is in one of the state, push the button will bring the program into another state. When program enters Cycle Start state, LED embedded in the button will flash at ½ second rate. When program enters Feed Hold state, the LED will flash twice in the first half second, and turn off in the next half second. STOP/REWIND Button Pushing this button simulates the function of Stop and Rewind button on Mach3 Screen. Pressing and holding the side button at the same time is needed. E-STOP Switch Button 9

10 Push E-STOP switch button down to send out E-Stop signal to Mach3 application and to activate Emergency Mode in Mach3 application. The button will be locked down when pressed. Twist the switch to reset it on. When the button is pressed down and locked, the embedded LED will flash at ¼ second rate. When Mach3 application is in Reset mode, the LED will flash at ½ second rate. SPECIFICATIONS Work with Mach3 R2.63 and above. 100 steps (clicks) per Rev MPG.
