1. General information 1.1 Preface This installation manual is intended to assist you in connecting and putting into operation the B6L 4P. 1.2 Correct use The device is solely intended for use as an access control terminal. The device processes the identification carriers read by connected readers and controls the respective doors according to the authorisation profiles stored in the device via strikes. Use for any other purpose than the one described is notpermitted. 1.3 Safety instructions and warnings This device has been constructed and tested in accordance with all currently applicable technical regulations. All safety features were in proper working order when it left the factory. The user must observe the instructions and warnings given in this installation guide to maintain proper working order and ensure risk-free operation. The device may only be used for the purpose intended by the manufacturer. Installation and assembly of electrical equipment may only be carried out by a qualified electrician. Before opening the unit, always switch off the power supply and check that it is inactive by measuring the current. During installation, please ensure that the requirements laid down in the relevant equipment safety standard for the unit are adhered to since non-compliance could affect the safety of the device. Before switching on, ensure that the connected operating and control voltages do not exceed the permissible values specified in the technical data. This device complies with EN Protection Class I and may only be used if a protective conductor is connected. Make sure that the wall on which the device is to be mounted is able to bear the load. Lead batteries: Batteries may possibly generate inflammable gas. Do not ever expose batteries to naked flames or extreme heat. Do not short-circuit batteries. Do not open batteries under any circumstances. Batteries can explode. Never expose batteries to fire. Batteries of different ages and from different fields of application should not be connected and/or operated together. Dispose of batteries in compliance with statutory provisions. The average service life of the batteries used is about four years if they are used at a temperature of 25 C and charged on a regular basis. Higher operating temperatures reduce the service life. Electromagnetic compatibility: The device is designed for use in residential, business and commercial areas and complies with EN and PCBs can be damaged by static electricity discharge, so suitable precautionary measures such as grounding must be implemented. Drawing no.: 1101G-00-B1 Date: 12/12 V2.00 3
1. General information This unit may only be operated when installed. The locking screws on unassigned connection terminals must be screwed in as far as they will go. If a unit failure or malfunction may result in injury to persons or animals, or in damage to works equipment, this must be prevented by implementing additional safety measures, such as limit switches and safety devices. General installation guidelines See Manual 1006G-B0 If you believe that the device can no longer be operated safely, take it out of operation and secure it against accidental use. The information provided in these assembly instructions may be modified without prior notification. All previous versions cease to be valid with the publication of these instructions. The information in these assembly instructions has been compiled to the best of our knowledge and in good faith. Information for EU countries This device falls under the European Directive 2002/96 EC and therefore must not be disposed of with household waste. We, the manufacturer, will take back our electric and electronic products and dispose of them for you free of charge. You may also contact your waste disposal company instead. 1.6 Operating principle The B6L 4P is a fully-fledged, stand-alone access control terminal which reads identification carriers held to the connected S6 readers and activates connected strikes via corresponding permission profiles. The B6L 4P is able to control four doors using the basic configuration described here. Eight S6 readers and four lowpower strikes can be connected to the B6L 4P in order to control doors. Two feedback contacts can be configured for each connected door. Readers with a phg_crypt protocol may be used instead of S6 readers based on a DP1 protocol if they are parameterised in a suitable way. It is not possible to use both protocols simultaneously in mixed mode. Two extension kits are available to extend the B6L 4P (see accessories). 1. I/O module extension kit: You can use this extension kit to increase the number of doors to be controlled from four to eight. This allows you to connect a maximum of 16 S6 readers. 2. MUX extension kit: This kit allows the connected S6 readers to be wired in a star configuration. Without this particular kit, the readers can only be wired to a bus connection. The B6L 4P features an integrated emergency power supply which is able to power the device and connected components for at least 30 minutes in the event of a power failure. To ensure the backup power supply lasts at least 30 minutes, a maximum of 16 S6 readers (max. 40 ma per S6 reader) and a maximum of eight low-power closed-circuit current strikes (max. 150 ma/24 V) may be installed and the rechargeable batteries must be fully charged and in perfect condition. 5

4. Maintenance 4.1. Maintenance and troubleshooting Maintenance on an opened device may be carried out by a qualified person or an electrician only! The unit should be disconnected from the mains by removing the fuse in the mains connection (page 22) before carrying out maintenance or inspection work Fuse If the fuse (SI301 base card) needs to be replaced, there is a spare fuse in the bottom right-hand corner of the basic module. The fuse can be re-ordered by indicating Item no (Littlefuse type , 2 A). The use of other fuses is not permitted. The fuse at the mains input (6.3 A, time-delay) can be re-ordered by indicating Item no If the blade fuse in the battery connection cable is defective (10 A, fast-blow), a new connection cable can be ordered by indicating Item number
4. Maintenance General information on changing the battery Lithium back-up battery Lithium back-up battery for power failure-proof buffering of the data stored in RAM. Continuous buffer time: approx. 3 5 years. Type CR2032/3 V, 230 mah, plugged in, service life approx. 10 years. Replacement battery CR2032, Item no.: Changing the battery is permitted when live. To retain the data in the unit when changing the battery, the power supply to the unit must remain switched on. Risk of explosion if the battery is not replaced properly. Dispose of used batteries in accordance with statutory provisions Replacing the back-up battery The battery is inserted into the holder vertically. To change the battery, push the power failure safety lock to the side. The battery can then be easily removed from the holder. The new battery can be pushed into the holder by pushing the safety lock to the side in the same way. Please ensure that the poles are correctly positioned RS232 service interface The enclosed null modem cable can be used to connect the 9-pin D-sub connector to a PC. The supplied RS232/USB converter can be used to connect the service interface via USB RX 7 3 TX GND Casing 23
4. Maintenance 4.2 Power supply unit In order to ensure reliable operation in the event of a power failure, the UPS circuit must be checked at regular intervals. To do so, pull out the fuse from the mains connection (see arrow). The LEDs should then react as follows: LED L1 Flashes red Pre-charging OUT BAT LED L2 Lights up red Mains power failure L N INPUT Insert the fuse again. Warning: The batteries should be replaced every four years at the latest. The average service life of four years for the batteries used is based on an operating temperature of 25 C.
