Included licensed software The Enhanced Group Management license is included with all HP 8 Gb switches. Enhanced Group Management enables full management of the device in a datacenter fabric with deeper element management functionality and greater management task aggregation throughout the environment. This license is used in conjunction with Data Center Fabric Manager (DCFM) application software. DCFM is the minimum required version for full DCFM management of the HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch. Prior to that version, any supported version of DCFM provides support for discovery of the FCoE switch; launch of Webtools is required for switch management. Previously licensed software now part of base Fabric OS The following capabilities are included as part of the base Fabric OS and no additional purchase or licensing is necessary. NOTE: Advanced Zoning and Web Tools licenses are no longer necessary, beginning with Fabric OS 6.1. These features are automatically enabled on all products running Fabric OS 6.1 or later Standards compliance This software conforms to the Fibre Channel standards and to accepted engineering practices and procedures. In certain cases, HP might add proprietary supplemental functions to those specified in the standards. For a list of standards conformance, see the HP Web site: The HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch conforms to the following Ethernet standards: IEEE 802.1D Spanning Tree Protoco IEEE 802.1s Multiple Spanning Tree IEEE 802.1w Rapid reconfiguration of Spanning Tree Protocol IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation with LACP IEEE 802.3ae 10G Ethernet IEEE 802.1Q VLAN Tagging IEEE 802.1p Class of Service Prioritization and Tagging IEEE 802.1v VLAN Classification by Protocol and Port IEEE 802.1AB Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) IEEE 802.3x Flow Control (Pause Frames) The following draft versions of the Converged Enhanced Ethernet (CEE) and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) Standards are also supported on the Brocade 8000: IEEE 802.1Qbb Priority-based Flow Control IEEE 802.1Qaz Enhanced Transmission Selection IEEE 802.1Qaz DCB Capability Exchange Protocol FC-BB-5 FCoE (Rev 1.0.3) HP StorageWorks Fabric OS 6.1.2_cee1 release notes 5
New hardware support The HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch is introduced for support with the release of Fabric OS v6.1.2_cee1 Supported product models The only switch supported with Fabric OS 6.1.2_cee1 is the HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch. Unsupported product models All B-series switches, except the HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch, are unsupported with Fabric OS 6.1.2_cee1. Devices supported For a list of supported devices, see the HP website: Operating systems For a list of operating systems, see the HP website: Secure Fabric OS feature not compatible with Fabric OS 6.x and later Fabric OS 5.3.x is the last Fabric OS version which was compatible with SFOS. However, all of the security features of SFOS have been fully integrated into the base Fabric OS, starting with Fabric OS 5.3.x. Zoning and fabric operations When configuring zoning or other fabric-wide settings in a fabric that has products operating with different versions of Fabric OS, HP recommends that you perform the configuration via an interface (such as Web Tools) to a product with the most recent version of Fabric OS. Some older versions of Fabric OS do not fully support newer hardware models, and problems may arise when configuring settings through these older products. NOTE: Never perform a zoning configuration through a switch operating with Fabric OS 3.x in a fabric that also has products operating with newer versions of Fabric OS. 6
Prerequisites Table 1 lists the supported Fabric OS firmware versions. HP recommends using the latest supported firmware release versions to get the greatest benefit from the SAN. For a list of retired products, see the HP website: IMPORTANT: The Fabric OS versions listed in the Earliest compatible version column in Table 1 are the earliest versions supported by HP at the time of the Fabric OS 6.1.2_cee1 release. Note that Hot Code Activation capability is not supported on this switch in the Fabric OS 6.1.2_cee1 release. Any firmware upgrade operation from Fabric OS 6.1.2_cee1 to a newer Fabric OS release will be disruptive to the traffic currently going through the HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch platform. The HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch comes from the factory with Fabric OS 6.1.2_cee1 already installed. Should you need to access the Fabric OS 6.1.2_cee1 firmware, configuration files, or MIB files, visit the HP website: 8
At the website: 1. Under Storage, select Storage Networking. 2. Select the link for the FCoE switch, select your product, and then select Cross operating system (BIOS, firmware, Diagnostics, etc.) 3. Select Firmware. 4. Select V6.x Firmware for HP StorageWorks B-Series Fibre Channel Switches for 6.1.2_cee1: To download the firmware, select Download. To read the release notes, select the Release Notes tab. To verify that the firmware download process is complete, enter the firmwaredownloadstatus command on the switch, verify the process is complete, and then move on to the next switch. Important notes Table 2 provides information you should be aware of when running Fabric OS 6.1.2_cee1. Table 2 Fabric OS 6.1.2_cee1 release information Topic Converged Mode considerations with FCoE switch CNA Connectivity CEE map considerations Spanning Tree considerations Fabric Provided MAC Address (FPMA) and Fibre Channel Identifier (FCID) LLDP neighbor information HP recommends that Converged Mode be enabled on all interfaces connected to CNAs. When operating in Converged Mode, tagged traffic on the native VLAN of the switch interface is processed normally. The host should be configured not to send VLAN tagged traffic on the switch's native VLAN. The Converged Network Adapter (CNA) may lose connectivity to the HP Storage- Works 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch if the CNA interface is toggled repeatedly over time. This issue is related to the CNA and rebooting the CNA restores connectivity. Although the HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch supports the configuration of multiple CEE maps, HP recommends that you use only one CEE map on all interfaces connected to CNAs. CEE maps are not recommended for use for non-fcoe traffic. QoS commands are recommended for interfaces carrying non-fcoe traffic. HP recommends that Spanning Tree Protocol and its variants be disabled on CEE interfaces that are connected to a server. The Fabric Provided MAC Address (FPMA) and the Fibre Channel Identifier (FCID) assigned to a VN_Port cannot be associated with any single front-end CEE port on which the FLOGI was received. LLDP neighbor information may be released before the timer expires when DCBX is enabled on a CEE interface. This occurs only when the CEE interface state changes from active to any other state. When the DCBX is not enabled, the neighbor information is not released until the timer expires, irrespective of the interface state. HP StorageWorks Fabric OS 6.1.2_cee1 release notes 9
Topic Web Tools PID format HP recommends that when managing the FCoE login groups on the HP Storage- Works 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch the CLI be used. Web Tools does not support this feature in FOS 6.1.2_cee1. Do not attempt to use Traffic Isolation Zones via Web Tools; it is an unsupported feature and may result in unexpected switch behavior. Starting with Fabric OS version 6.x, the only supported PID format is core pid (1). See the HP StorageWorks Fabric OS 6.1.1x administrator guide for details. 10
Topic The new switchport mode command option and switchport converged command are not currently documented in the Converged Enhanced Ethernet Command Reference (Brocade publication number ) HP StorageWorks Fabric OS 6.1.2_cee1 release notes 11
Topic The switchport mode command has been extended and the switchport converged command introduced in the 6.1.2_cee1 Fabric OS release. switchport mode - sets the mode of the Layer 2 interface Synopsis switchport mode {access trunk converged} Operands access Sets the Layer 2 interface as access trunk Sets the Layer 2 interface as trunk converged Sets the layer 2 interface as converged Defaults There are no defaults for this command. Command Modes Interface Configuration Mode Use this command to set the mode of the Layer 2 interface. Usage Guidelines There are no usage guidelines for this command. Examples To set the mode of the interface to access: switch(conf-if-te-0/19)#switchport mode access To set the mode of the interface to trunk: switch(conf-if-te-0/19)#switchport mode trunk To set the mode of the interface to converged: switch(conf-if-te-0/19)#switchport mode converged See Also show vlan brief, show interface switchport, switchport trunk switchport converged - adds or removes native and tagged VLANs on a Layer 2 interface Synopsis switchport converged {vlan vlan_id allowed vlan {add vlan_id all except vlan_id none remove vlan_id} } no switchport converged Operands vlan vlan_id Sets the default native VLAN for the Layer 2 interface. allowed vlan Sets the VLANs that will transmit and receive through the Layer 2 interface. add vlan_id Adds a VLAN to transmit and receive through the Layer2 interface. The range of valid values is Defaults The default native VLAN for a converged interface is 1. 12
Topic Command Modes Interface Configuration Mode Use this command to add or remove native and tagged VLANs on a Layer 2 interface. Usage Guidelines There are no usage guidelines for this command. Examples To set the native VLAN of 200 on an interface: switch(conf-if-te-0/19)#switchport converged vlan 200 To set the tagged VLAN on an interface to 100: switch(conf-if-te-0/19)#switchport converged allowed vlan add 100 To remove the tagged VLAN 100 from the interface: switch(conf-if-te-0/19)#switchport converged allowed vlan remove 100 See Also show vlan brief, show interface switchport, switchport mode FICON support Adaptive Networking/flow-based QoS prioritization Integrated routing FCS Automatic Distribution Access Gateway Port Fencing Port Mirroring The HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch is not supported with FICON. The HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch does not support Adaptive Networking. Integrated routing is not supported with the HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch. When using the FCS Automatic Distribution feature in Fabric OS 6.0 or later, all switches in the fabric must be running Fabric OS 6.0 or later. If any switches are running Fabric OS 5.x or earlier, only manual distribution can be used. Fabric OS 6.0 or later will only allow FCS automatic distribution when in strict mode, requiring only switches with Fabric OS 6.0 or later. The HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch does not support Access Gateway mode. The default settings for Port Fencing reflect very low thresholds and may cause fence ports to experience errors. HP recommends increasing these threshold values for use in production environments. Different platforms may require different threshold settings for optimum behavior. When the port fencing feature is enabled for ITW or CRC errors, the first set of errors detected on an active link that meet the custom high threshold level set by the user (or the default threshold level) is always ignored to account for expected link transition errors. The port is disabled only upon detection of a second set of errors, that is, the next time the user-set threshold level (or default threshold level) is reached. This prevents a port from being disabled due to normal link transition behaviors. Port Fencing is only supported on E_Port and F_Port classes. Port Fencing is available with the optional Fabric Watch license. Proper behavior of Port Mirroring requires that the entire frame path contain only 8-Gb ASICs or only 4-Gb ASICs. If a frame path contains a mix of 8-Gb and 4-Gb ASICs, this functionality will not work as intended. HP StorageWorks Fabric OS 6.1.2_cee1 release notes 13
Topic Licensing behavior DCFM compatibility Fabric OS compatibility When operating a switch with Fabric OS 6.1.0a or later, some licenses may display as Unknown. this is due to changes in licensing requirements for some features that no longer require a license key. Fabric OS 6.1.2_cee1 is fully compatible with the Data Center Fabric Manager (DCFM) management software. DCFM is a comprehensive network management application that enables end-to-end management of HP data center fabrics. It is the next generation product that is the successor to existing HP management products, namely HP Fabric Manager (FM) and Enterprise Fabric Connectivity Manager (EFCM). DCFM is available in two versions: DCFM Professional, a complimentary application that is ideally suited for small and medium size businesses that need a light-weight management product to manage their smaller fabrics (one physical fabric at a time, up to 1,000 ports); and DCFM Enterprise, that is designed for enterprise-class customers and showcases unparalleled performance and scalability (24 physical fabrics, up to 9,000 switch ports). DCFM Enterprise configures and manages DCX backbones, along with HP StorageWorks directors, routers, and switches. Existing EFCM and FM customers that have active Maintenance and Support contracts are provided a seamless migration path to DCFM Enterprise. Note that the HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch does not have full management capability with DCFM until version However, previous versions will discover the switch and WebTools can be used for switch management functions. Table 1 on page 7 lists the earliest versions of HP software supported in this release; these are the earliest supported software versions that interoperate. HP recommends using the latest software versions to get the greatest benefit from the SAN. Additional Fabric OS 6.1.x enhancements This section describes additional Fabric OS 6.1.x enhancements: Provides new Fabric OS commands to rename an alias, zone, and zone configuration: zone copy Copies the zone object to a new zone object zoneobjectrename Renames the zone object Detects and handles a corrupted zone configuration (under /etc/fabos/zone*) without rebooting. The switch also logs the error in RASLog. Adds a command that provides both the WWN and serial number of the switch. The sn option displays the serial number. For example, wwn sn returns both the WWN and the serial number Provides additional information on a faulty port in Fabric Watch to aid in troubleshooting. Enables use of passive FTP to download firmware. Enables the user to specify a quality password policy that prevents the selection of passwords with consecutive, identical characters. Uses multiple NTP servers with the tsclockserver command for redundancy. For example, if one NTP server fails (DR scenario), there is a backup that switches can access. Logs a RASLog message when a 2.x switch joins the fabric. High availability failover and user notification occur on the 4/256 SAN Director when there is a failed Ethernet chip (Oscillator chip). 14
Advanced Zoning with Web Tools licenses are no longer necessary, starting wit Fabric OS 6.1.x. These features are automatically enabled on all products running Fabric OS 6.1.x or later. Web tools functionality moved to DCFM The functionality that was moved from Web tools in to DCFM is applicable to both DCFM Professional and DCFM Enterprise. Table 3 specifies these changes.
