nstallation nstructions CompactLogix L Controllers Catalog Numbers -LER-QBB, -LER-QBFCB, -LERM-QBFCB Prevent Electrostatic Discharge This equipment is sensitive to electrostatic discharge, which can cause ternal damage and affect normal operation. Follow these guideles when you handle this equipment: Touch a grounded object to discharge potential static. Wear an approved groundg wriststrap. Do not touch connectors or ps on component boards. Do not touch circuit components side the equipment. Use a static-safe workstation, if available. Store the equipment appropriate static-safe packagg when not use. Before You Beg Consider the followg before stallg a CompactLogix L controller: The control system cludes a controller, an embedded power supply, and embedded /O pots. The embedded power supply is a V put, isolated power supply. You must connect an external Class or SELV-approved power supply to provide V power to the system. The controllers have embedded /O pots. You wire the put and output pots via a removable connector. The controller supports the use of Compact /O modules on the local CompactBus backplane as local expansion modules. You must termate the end of the CompactBus via a -ECR right end cap.

CompactLogix L Controllers You cannot remove nor stall Compact /O modules while the controller is powered. ATTENTON: CompactLogix L control systems do not support removal and sertion under power (RUP). Removg a Compact /O module or end cap will generate a controller fault and may also result damage to system components. nstall the Secure Digital Card The CompactLogix L controller is shipped from the factory with the -SD SD card stalled. Complete these steps to re-stall an SD card that has been removed from the controller back to the controller or if stallg a new SD card to the controller. WARNNG: When you sert or remove the SD card while power is on, an electrical arc can occur. This could cause an explosion hazardous location stallations. Be sure that power is removed or the area is nonhazardous before proceedg.. Verify that the SD card is locked or unlocked accordg to your preference before stallation. Consider the followg pots: f the card is unlocked, the controller can write data to it or read data from it. f the card is locked, the controller can only read data from it. Unlocked Locked -M Rockwell Automation Publication -NA-EN-P - April

CompactLogix L Controllers. Open the door for the SD card. -M. nsert the SD card to the SD card slot. You can stall the SD card one orientation only. The beveled corner should be at the bottom. f you feel resistance when sertg the SD card, pull it out and change the orientation.. Gently press the card until it clicks to place. -M. Close the SD card door. -M We recommend you close the SD card door durg system operation. Rockwell Automation Publication -NA-EN-P - April

CompactLogix L Controllers Mount the System Mount a CompactLogix L control system on a DN rail or a panel. WARNNG: When used a Class, Division, hazardous location, this equipment must be mounted a suitable enclosure with proper wirg method that complies with the governg electrical codes. Available DN Rails ATTENTON: This product is grounded through the DN rail to chassis ground. Use zc-plated yellow-chromate steel DN rail to assure proper groundg. The use of other DN rail materials (for example, alumum or plastic) that can corrode, oxidize, or are poor conductors, can result improper or termittent groundg. Secure DN rail to mountg surface approximately every mm (..) and use end-anchors appropriately. You can mount the CompactLogix L controller on these DN rails: EN - x. mm (. x..) EN - x mm (. x..) 7 CompactLogix L Controllers Mount the Controller on a Panel Use two M or # panhead screws to mount the controller. Mountg screws are required on every module. Use this procedure to use the assembled modules as a template for drillg holes the panel. MPORTANT Due to module mountg hole tolerance, it is important to follow these procedures.. On a clean work surface, assemble no more than three modules.. Usg the assembled modules as a template, carefully mark the center of all module-mountg holes on the panel.. Return the assembled modules to the clean work surface, cludg any previously mounted modules.. Drill and tap the mountg holes for the recommended M or # screw.. Place the modules back on the panel and check for proper hole alignment. TP The groundg plate, that is, where you stall the mountg screws, grounds the module when it is panel-mounted.. Use the mountg screws to attach the modules to the panel. TP f you are mountg more modules, mount only the last one of this group and put the others aside. This reduces remountg time when you are drillg and tappg the next group of modules.. Repeat steps for any remag modules. Rockwell Automation Publication -NA-EN-P - April

CompactLogix L Controllers Mount the Controller on the DN Rail You can mount the controller on the followg DN rails: EN - x. mm (. x..) EN - x mm (. x..) ATTENTON: This product is grounded through the DN rail to chassis ground. Use zc plated yellow-chromate steel DN rail to assure proper groundg. The use of other DN rail materials (for example, alumum or plastic) that can corrode, oxidize, or are poor conductors, can result improper or termittent groundg. Secure DN rail to mountg surface approximately every mm (..) and use end-anchors appropriately.. Hook the DN rail latch at the top of the back of the controller on the DN rail.. Swg the controller downward until it touches the DN rail and press the controller agast the DN rail until it clicks place. The click verifies that controller is locked on the DN rail. Ground the System ATTENTON: This product is tended to be mounted to a well-grounded mountg surface such as a metal panel. Additional groundg connections from the power supply's mountg tabs or DN rail (if used) are not required unless the mountg surface cannot be grounded. Refer to ndustrial Automation Wirg and Groundg Guideles, Rockwell Automation publication -., for additional formation. Rockwell Automation Publication -NA-EN-P - April

CompactLogix L Controllers. Slide the -ECR end cap onto the right side of the controller. The coverg covers the exposed terconnections on the right side of the controller. ATTENTON: Failure to use a protective coverg could result equipment damage or jury from electric shock. -M. Push the end cap lockg mechanism to the right to lock it onto the controller. -M Connect Power to the Controller You must connect an external Class or SELV-listed power supply to the controller s embedded power supply. The external power supply converts /V AC power to V. WARNNG: Do not connect directly to le voltage. Le voltage must be supplied by a suitable, approved isolatg transformer or power supply havg short circuit capacity not exceedg VA maximum or equivalent. Rockwell Automation Publication -NA-EN-P - April

CompactLogix L Controllers Consider these pots before completg the steps this section: An external power supply must reside the same enclosure as the CompactLogix L controller. f the external power supply and controller are located separate enclosures, an electrical arc can occur when power is applied. Not all Class or SELV-listed power supplies are certified for use all applications, for example, use both nonhazardous and hazardous environments. Before stallg an external power supply, consult all specification and certification formation to verify that you are usg an acceptable external power supply. You must wire power accordg to the wirg specifications, for example, the maximum screw torque on a power supply termal, listed the CompactLogix L Controllers Product nformation Sheet, publication -PC. Complete these steps to connect power to the CompactLogix L control system.. Verify that the external power supply is stalled properly.. f appropriate, verify that the power settg on the supply is configured to match the voltage source and that the supply is not powered.. Connect a wire to a +V termal on the external power supply. WARNNG: f you connect or disconnect wirg while the field-side power is on, an electrical arc can occur. This could cause an explosion hazardous location stallations. Be sure that power is removed or the area is nonhazardous before proceedg.. Strip mm (..) sulation from the end of the wire that you will connect to the +V termal on the controller. Rockwell Automation Publication -NA-EN-P - April

The previous section describes how to wire termals +V and on the CompactLogix L controller. They are the only termals you wire to power the CompactLogix L control system. You should only use the termal as appropriate when connectg a field device to the controller. Rockwell Automation Publication -NA-EN-P - April
