1 Technical Specification Sheet Rev. 3, December, 1998 Room Pressurization Controllers equipment. This approach to room control includes the following features. Features gure 1. The Room Pressurization Controllers (res 1 & 2) provide Direct Digital Control (DDC) technology for space pressurization and room temperature control. Typical applications include hospital isolation rooms, surgical suites, critical care and ancillary care areas, labs with constant volume 2 position fume hoods, areas surrounding laboratories or wherever (positive or negative) pressurization of the room environment is critical. The Room Pressurization Controllers maintain differential flow between the supply and ehaust terminal boes by controlling the damper actuators on each terminal bo. Reheat is provided by control of a reheat valve. The Room Pressurization Controllers offer two options for control devices. The Room Pressurization Controller - Electronic Output controls floating control valve and damper actuators. The Room Pressurization Controller - Pneumatic Output controls pneumatic valve and damper actuators. Each can operate as an independent, stand-alone DDC controller and can be connected on a Local Area Network (LAN) with the APOGEE Automation System. This etends the benefits of DDC to all the building s HVAC Closed loop PID control of HVAC systems to minimize offset and maintain tighter air volume and temperature control, Dedicated control algorithms for specific applications, Use of wall switch input to change from occupied to unoccupied mode, Reports airflow in cfm (lps), Use of keyed switch to select pressurization mode: protective isolation (positive), infectious isolation (negative), no isolation, Separate minimum and maimum air volume settings for heating and cooling modes (Variable Air Volume (VAV)) applications only), Separate air volume set points for occupied and unoccupied modes (CV applications only), HVAC diagnostics through communication with a Portable Operator s Terminal at a room sensor or at any field panel, Set points and control parameters assigned and changed using the Portable Operator s Terminal, Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) for storing set points and control parametersno battery backup required, Returns from power failure without operator intervention, Meets low duct static pressure requirements, and Proven APOGEE Automation System DDC architecture. 2 Control Applications Operating independently or as part of the APOGEE Automation System, the Room Pressurization Controllers can control a variety of pressure independent applications, including: VAV with Hot Water Reheat, Constant Volume with Hot Water Reheat, Constant Volume in Occupied Mode and VAV in Unoccupied Mode with Hot Water Reheat (pneumatic output only) Description and The Room Pressurization Controllers consist of two differential pressure transducers and either an electronic or pneumatic controller assembly. Autozero Modules are available for those applications where uninterrupted airflow is necessary. Control algorithms are preprogrammed. The controllers are ready to operate after selecting the application and assigning the controller s address using the Portable Operator s Terminal. If desired, the operator may use the Portable Operator s Terminal to adjust the air velocity set points in cfm, differential flow, room temperature set point and other set points. The controller is designed for operation and modification without vendor assistance. Differential Pressure Transducer The averaging air velocity sensors (provided by the terminal bo manufacturer) send an average air velocity measurement of the duct air velocity to the controller. The air velocity sensors connect to the differential pressure transducers (which are mounted in the Room Pressurization Controller) and measure the average differential pressure. This value is converted to actual airflow in cfm (lps) by the Room Pressurization Controller. The Autozero Modules are connected to the air velocity inlet ports of the Room Pressurization Controller and provide periodic recalibration of the air velocity transducers without changing air volume being delivered to a room. The cable from the room sensor connects to the RJ-11 jack on the controller. All other connections are screw terminations. The controller assembly is mounted on a plastic track, which mounts directly on the terminal bo. An optional enclosure protects the controller assembly. The controller interfaces with the following eternal devices: Averaging air velocity sensors provided by terminal bo manufacturers, Floating control valve and damper actuators, Room temperature sensor, Portable Operator s Terminals, APOGEE Automation System, Room Pressurization Controller Pressure Mode Switch, Digital input devices (dry contacts from motion sensors, motion detectors, etc.), and Digital output device (alarm indication). 4 Pneumatic Output Module The Pneumatic Output Module (re 3) contains the transducers that provide the signal conversion from electronic to pneumatic. Three modules are used per controller. The gauge on the module provides a readout of the pneumatic control signal. This can be used during system start-up and troubleshooting. This keyed switch also includes a light to indicate when the controller is not able to maintain the programmed differential flow in the room. The stainless steel flush mounted switch can be mounted outside a patient/treatment room or at a nurse s station Vac ma. 4" H 4.5" W (102 mm 114 mm) 1 lb (0.4 kg) Room Pressurization Controller Communication Up to 32 Room Pressurization Controllers or other Terminal Equipment Controllers can be connected to each of the three Protocol 2 field panel LAN trunks, for a total of 96 per field panel. Communication with the Room Pressurization Controller can be initiated from any APOGEE Automation System field panel on the system network (re 5). The APOGEE Automation System network does not require additional hardware to connect Terminal Equipment Controllers. When Terminal Equipment Controllers are wired to a field panel, features such as energy management programs, alarm reporting, centralized control, modification of the system database, system-wide troubleshooting, and the global commanding of devices are available to them. Portable Operator s Terminal The DOS-based laptop computer serving as the Portable Operator s Terminal can communicate with Room Pressurization Controllers or any field panel. The terminal connects to the controller via the plug-in jack on either the controller, the room temperature sensor associated with the Room Pressurization Controller, or a Protocol 2-field panel. The terminal can be used to remotely adjust air volume settings or temperature set points, to troubleshoot, and to start up the system. When connected to the RS-232 port of a Protocol 2- field panel, the terminal provides system-wide communication.
