1 Metasys Network Sales Resource Manual 635 Application Specific Controllers Section Product Bulletin Issue Date 0290 Lab and Central Plant Controller The Metasys Lab and Central Plant (LCP) Controller is the ideal digital control solution for single chiller or boiler plant control applications, or for controlling the HVAC process of a laboratory environment. In a standalone configuration, the LCP Controller has both the hardware and software flexibility to adapt to the variety of control processes found in its targeted applications. Along with its outstanding control flexibility, the LCP Controller also provides local point information at its built-in LCD display panel. It can communicate on the Metasys N2 Bus, seamlessly providing all point and control information to either the full Metasys Network or the Metasys Companion System. 4 Modular Hardware Packaging The LCP Controller can be configured for single chiller or boiler plants, animal labs, or interface fume hood logic into the Metasys Network. Two different packaging styles are available. The LCP-100 series is packaged for field installation, while the LCP-200 is suitable for factory mounting by original equipment manufacturer. Both packaging styles have a status indication panel built-in as a standard feature. LCP-100 The LCP-100 has a family of compatible components that make it ideal for field installation. The controller package is divided into two parts. A base module mounts easily to any surface using either DIN rail or direct mount. It provides screw terminations for system inputs and outputs. All electronics and the status panel are on a separate cover kit that plugs into the base module, which provides easy servicing and protection of the electronics during initial installation. For the LCP-100 series packaging, additional components can be added as required to complete the control system. A Transformer Kit mounts on the same DIN rail as the base module, providing 24 VAC power to the entire LCP-100 system, plus a convenient connection point for the line voltage wiring or low voltage sensor cables. A Line Voltage Relay Kit added to the DIN rail provides pilot duty switched outputs. The Relay Module contains four SPDT relays, each of which can be controlled by any of the LCP Controller's binary output points. Each relay also includes a manual Hand-Off-Auto switch for local overrides. The HOA switches can be monitored by a binary input on the LCP Controller to annunciate to an operator whenever an output has been placed in the "hand" or "off" positions. One or more Function Module Kits can also be mounted to the DIN rail. Each kit can have up to four plug-in pneumatic-to-electric transducers for measuring either differential / static pressure or gage pressure. Function Module Kit Line Voltage Relay Kit Transformer Kit Figure 4: LCP-200 The LCP-200 Controller incorporates the same control and communications capability of the LCP-100, but has been specifically designed to be installed in the equipment cabinet provided by original equipment manufacturers. It takes advantage of the OEM's available 24 VAC power supply and control enclosures to reduce the overall material cost. Besides addressing the packaging and installation concerns, the LCP-200 offers OEM customers a state-of-the-art digital control system that will quickly set your product apart from the competition. 4 Application Specific Controllers Lab and Central Plant Controller

5 Sensors and Actuators to Complete the System The LCP Controller is matched to a family of sensors, actuators, control valves, and dampers needed to complete the control of basic chiller and boiler plants, as well as basic laboratory HVAC processes. Its sensor inputs can accept both economical passive temperature sensors, as well as industry standard 0-10 VDC transmitters. Outputs are available to control both electric and pneumatic actuators, as well as motor starters and staged heating and cooling. The HVAC PRO runs on a laptop computer plugged into a jack at the controller termination board for ease of loading the controller's configuration. Programs loaded into the LCP Controller are saved in battery backed RAM, so there is no need to reload software after a loss of power. Configuring an LCP Controller is a simple matter of filling in a flow chart grid connecting inputs to control and logic blocks, and closing the control loop by making the connection from the control and logic blocks to the outputs. As the flow chart is being filled in, the set point parameters, gains, alarm limits and so forth are added around the input and outputs to complete the configuration. Once the LCP Controller is configured, the operating parameters and input/output values can be displayed and changed by the display panel built into the controller. The same information viewed on the face of the controller can be displayed and changed from any of the Metasys operator devices. Application Flexibility The LCP Controller can be configured to meet a wide variety of basic single boiler and/or chiller central plant and lab applications. Pre-configured examples are available for the most common applications to use as a foundation to customize your particular needs. If the pre-configured examples don't cover your needs, you can start with a blank flowchart template on the HVAC PRO Configuration Tool, and configure a totally customized process to meet your specific application needs.

Each LCP Controller can connect to the Metasys N2 Bus. Either a Network Control Unit or Companion System can be programmed to provide added energy management and supervisory control capabilities, including optimal start, demand limiting, load rolling, run time totalization, and more. The Metasys Dynamic Data Access networking software, available from the Network Control Unit, makes all information from each LCP Controller available throughout the facility, so that it is possible, for example, to reset the boiler or chiller discharge temperature set point on an LCP based on the demand of a group of Unitary or VAV box controller requirements. Dynamic Data Access also makes sensor values, operating status, and other parameters in the LCP Controller available to operators anywhere in your facility. Conclusion As either a member of the fully integrated system or as a standalone controller, the LCP Controller represents the best way to fully optimize the operation of your lab or basic central plant control application needs.
