PageCounter Professional RMA on EP3.5 As you already know, there are two PageCounter Professional hardware versions. There is a Version 1 and a Version 2 terminal. PCP terminals are a clamshell design. This is what they look like: Knowing the difference between the two is exceptionally important when the control system software is EP5. However, it is less critical when the control system is EP3.5. The reason it is less important, is because you will NOT need to change the firmware for EP3.5 (or any other Legacy control system, for that matter). As mentioned in previous guides, these terminals ship out of the RMA centre with Mode1 firmware already on them; which means they are ready to work with our legacy control systems, including EP3.5! REVIEW SETTINGS ON THE ORIGINAL PCP The first step is to hit ALT+V on the PCP keyboard. Make note of the following settings from the screen that comes up: You MUST know the Name, the Site ID, the IP Method (IP address, Subnet and Gateway if Static), Control System, and Control Type before installing the new terminal. If you cannot get this from the existing terminal, there will be a section later about obtaining that information from the control system. NUANCE DOCUMENT IMAGING Paul Bahry PageCounter Professional RMA on EP3.5 Page 3
CONNECTOR MAP As always, when doing an RMA, try and get as much information as you can from the existing unit. If the screen is just dim, squint, and get all the information you need from it. If the unit is completely down, we will discuss how to obtain all the needed information from the control system in a later section of this document. However, unless the unit has been destroyed in a fire, you should always be able to get the serial number from it. Make note of the serial number you will need it later! The serial number can be found on a silver sticker on the back, and will look like: PCP with different numbers, of course. TRZCOPY64 or PC7FF0E0R are examples of the Part Number, NOT the serial number! NUANCE DOCUMENT IMAGING Paul Bahry PageCounter Professional RMA on EP3.5 Page 4
SWAPPING PCPS FIRST power down the terminal, and the copier!! You do not want to disconnect and connect cables that carry power while the units are powered on. As such, both the terminal and the copier must be powered down before you disconnect and reconnect anything. The copy control cable carries enough voltage to spark and blow out both the terminal and the interface board in the copier, it has happened before make sure it does not happen to you! It is also important to inform the client that you will be turning off their copier for a short time before you do it. Some of these units take an awful long time to boot back up, and if we take it down without them knowing and they have an important job on the way there could be trouble! Make sure the client is aware! Once that is out of the way, you want to disconnect cables from the existing unit. Here is where the first of the hardware differences between Version 1 and Version 2 units becomes evident. Version 1 units do NOT have an Expansion port. They have an Ethernet port that is in a slightly different location that the later models, but they do not have an expansion port. This means that in a chain of Ethernet devices, the PCP will need to be the last device in that chain. Disconnect all cables, and ensure they plug into the new one correctly! If it is a Version 2 unit, ensure the Ethernet and Expansion (if used) cables do NOT get mixed up or reversed. If it is a Fax-Equipped unit, make sure you get the Line and Fax cables correct. Line goes to the wall. Fax goes to the actual fax machine! Once the unit boots up, you should see a screen like this: The terminal will also likely be flashing a message about Communication With xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Down. Do not worry about that of course it can t communicate yet we haven t set up where it is supposed to communicate to! NUANCE DOCUMENT IMAGING Paul Bahry PageCounter Professional RMA on EP3.5 Page 5
Press the MGR key on the keyboard. This is the manager key, and the terminal will prompt you for a password. The password for entering Manager Mode on a PCP is CBR without the quotes. This will by default enter in the correct case, so do not worry about caps. When you enter the correct password you are shown a menu (shown left). You can navigate this menu using the UP and DOWN arrow keys to highlight and press ENTER, or pressing a numeric key corresponding to the option you require. Enter the network menu, and you are displayed this screen: Remember not to hit the Re-Initialize button unless you want to wipe the unit to factory defaults. To navigate from field to field you will need to use the TAB key on the keyboard. The unit automatically chooses DHCP by default and will come up and pull a DHCP address if it can. If it cannot, it will result in a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx address. A 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address indicates a DHCP failure. In most cases this will resolve by entering a STATIC, or MANUAL IP address. In this case, Control System Type MUST be Mode1, and the Site ID must be carried over from the previous unit. Once all of this information is in, make sure your cursor is in one of the fields you entered and then press ENTER on the keypad. The terminal will now display a warning: Press ENTER again, and the unit will reboot. If you have configured everything correctly, the unit will now be online and communicating. However, at this step, none of the server-side configuration has been downloaded, and none of the validation (the user codes, client and matter numbers, etc) have been downloaded yet. NUANCE DOCUMENT IMAGING Paul Bahry PageCounter Professional RMA on EP3.5 Page 6
SOFTWARE PLEASE NOTE unlike EPEE, EP3.5 does not need to be prepared in advance for a terminal replacement. The Serial Number and other unique identifiers will be updated automatically. OBTAIN THE SETTINGS FROM THE CONTROL SYSTEM Access the control interface for EP3.5. This is where all the devices are defined, and their status is displayed. EP3.5 does not have web-based interface pages like the other control systems: You will need to click device status on the main interface page. The device status screen will also automatically show you terminals that are offline. If you need to get the information for the replacement terminal from the control system, this is where you will get it! This page highlights offline terminals automatically. This makes it very easy to find an offline terminal, and figure out what the required settings are. Use the serial number from the OLD, defective unit, find that serial number in this list showing as offline and use the Name, Site ID, etc. from that line-entry. NUANCE DOCUMENT IMAGING Paul Bahry PageCounter Professional RMA on EP3.5 Page 7
PHYSICAL ID SITE ID TERMINAL NAME o o o PHYSICAL ID You will need this when programming your device from the control system. SITE ID You will need to enter this value into the terminal when you set it up TERMINAL NAME You will put this value into the terminal when you set it up Once you have all the required information, you can go ahead and swap the physical units, and bring the new one online. By now in the Field Certification Program, you are familiar with the EP3.5 interface. Once you ve set up the terminal and brought it online, you must confirm the device is showing as online in the device list! If it is not, you will need to troubleshoot that issue first! However, that does not mean it is ready to use yet. Its actual configuration and validation files have not been pushed to it yet. PROGRAMMING THE REPLACEMENT PCP Once the terminal is configured, you will need to program the device manually. You must do this from the main interface screen. NUANCE DOCUMENT IMAGING Paul Bahry PageCounter Professional RMA on EP3.5 Page 8
Click the DEVICES menu along the top, choose PROGRAM DEVICES All other options should be left as they appear by default, all you need to do it specify a Physical ID for your terminal, and put a check in the Upload Config Lists and Validation box. Press OK. If you have followed everything in this guide correctly, and your terminal is online, it will download both its config and validation tables now, rebooting twice before it comes online ready for testing! FAX TRACKING If your terminal is tracking a fax machine (read: if a fax machine is attached), as always, you MUST do a fax detect! A fax detect on a PageCounter Professional is fairly simple. Go into Manager Mode on the terminal by pressing the MGR key on the keyboard, and using the password CBR. Choose menu option 2, Devices. You are presented with a split-screen now. A few devices are listed on the left hand side, with a mess of values on the right. These are the device configuration tables. Device0 refers to the terminal hardware itself. Ignore this. Device1, if it is listed, refers to Faxboard number 1. Device2 if so equipped, refers to Faxboard number 2. Highlight the applicable fax board (you know this because they are labelled on the back ports whether it is fax1 or fax2). Press the option key (Optn the fourth key in on the top row of grey keys). An OPTIONS menu comes up with three choices. Choose Detect Device Settings. At this point, the terminal has initialized its fax board and is waiting for input. At the fax machine, dial out 123# as if it were a real phone number. When those four digits are dialled, the fax board will intercept and interpret them, telling the terminal exactly what type of communications the fax machine is using. Once the result comes back, you can exit those screens, and your fax detect is done! TESTING AND FINALIZING THE RMA Once the terminal comes up after the second reboot, you can test it, and have the client test it, and finish the job. Make sure things are neat and tidy, ensure the defective unit is shipped back to us, and call it a day! NUANCE DOCUMENT IMAGING Paul Bahry PageCounter Professional RMA on EP3.5 Page 9
