1 Setting Up A Second Router. NOTE : This document is not endorsing one specific make or model of router we do not widely test routers and there is absolutely no reason why any router should not work correctly if it functions correctly. Naim Audio products do not require any non-standard or special functionality to work correctly beyond a properly working network. NOTE : This document is not a networking training resource, it is a specific how to and if you know what you are doing then you may have other preferences but this is intended as guidance for those who do not know networking but want to set up a cable router to handle their network rather than their ISP supplied router. NOTE : These instructions have been created using a factory-fresh (or factory reset) LinkSys EA7500 running firmware that was current at the time of writing. Other versions of firmware may be slightly different to these instructions however should be broadly similar. Naim Audio cannot be held responsible for any discrepancies between these instructions - which are provided as-is - and your specific router. These instructions have been created using a Windows PC. Using an Apple Mac will be broadly similar. You will need to connect your router to a power source and power it up, once it has fully powered up you should connect your computer to it ideally via a wired Ethernet connection to one of the blue LAN ports on the back of the router (an Ethernet cable is usually provided in the box) but you can also use a wireless connection if you wish. NOTE : If you use a wireless connection then you will lose connection to the router whilst reconfiguring the wireless networking details for the router and you will have to reconnect again. Because of this we would recommend using a wired connection if at all possible. The LinkSys EA7500 comes with a default setup that we need to modify. To do this we access the routers web interface by bringing up a web browser (Internet Explorer / Chrome / FireFox / Safari etc.) on the computer we have just attached to it, then entering the routers IP address (LinkSys by default set their routers to ) into the address bar of your browser and hit Enter / Return. NOTE : The LinkSys EA7500 has many functions and facilities that are beyond the scope of this document and would only serve to confuse matters if discussed here, when such functionality is encountered in these instructions I will either skip over or disable such functionality and if the user wishes to explore that functionality at a later date then that is their prerogative.)

2 For the purposes of this document we do not need to make use of the LinkSys Smart WiFi functionality and can simply select the Login option then OK the usual terms and conditions that no-one ever reads (but we know we should) and the I want to set this router up manually option before hitting Next.

3 The default login password for the EA7500 is admin (without the quotes) the password for your specific router may be different. Enter the password and select Sign In. Once you have signed in then you will see the routers configuration page. From here you can configure the router however you wish. Firstly we will set up the wireless network on our router by selecting the Wireless option from the left hand side

4 The LinkSys EA7500 is a dual band router and will provide both 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless networks it is often handy to know which wireless network you are attached to (for example if trying to identify coverage issues) therefore in this example I have changed the 2.4GHz WiFi network name to NaimWiFi_2.4GHz and the 5GHz WiFi network name to NaimWiFi_5GHz. I have given both networks the same password ( naimaudio - this will need to be entered when connecting your network devices to the routers wireless network). Once you have finished making your changes then you can hit Apply The router will then give you a summary of the changes that you are about to make and ask you to confirm that you want to go ahead with them

5 and a final confirmation that you do want to change the settings. The router will now update its WiFi settings. If you are currently connected to the router via WiFi then you will be disconnected from the router and you will need to connect back to it again using the new WiFi settings and you will need to log back in to the routers admin page ( ) again using the admin password as above.

6 Now we need to configure the IP settings for our router to do this we select the Connectivity option. In the first Basic tab we can update our router administrator password (I would always recommend doing so but do remember what you have changed it to there is a notes area at the end of this document for you to write down any settings that you have made) and the router timezone. Once you have finished you should Apply your changes before moving on

7 As normal, the router will ask you to confirm whether you really do want to make the changes so click Yes and we can carry on Once the settings have applied we can then move on to the Local Network tab. Here we can specify the routers name (I have used NaimRouter ), its IP address (I m going to use for the purposes of this instruction document) and the DHCP server details (for this document I m going to use a start address of and a maximum number of users of 200 ). We can also specify the DHCP lease time (in this case 1440 minutes = 24 hours) and the DNS addresses that the router will use for DNS lookups (I am going to use Googles DNS servers at and ). When you re done, hit Appy

8 and, again, a final confirmation that you do want to change the settings. Your router will now change its IP address and so you will no longer be connected to it and the admin page will error out but do not panic Power down the new router and all will be resolved in the next exciting instalment!

9 OK so now we need to connect up your new router to your existing network Firstly, lets disconnect everything from your ISP supplied router and connect a network cable (ideally the one you used to connect your computer to the new router earlier) between the yellow Internet port on the EA7500 and one of the LAN ports on your ISP supplied router. Once connected the router should be turned on and allowed to initialise this should take a couple of minutes. Once initialised the LED on the front of the unit will be illuminated steadily (not flashing). Any wired network devices (such as streamers or Mu-so) servers such as the UnitiServe or HDX or NASs) should be connected to the four blue Ethernet ports on the EA7500. If more than four wired Ethernet ports are required then an Ethernet switch can be cascaded from one of the EA6300 s four blue Ethernet ports to obtain more free ports. (An additional Ethernet switch is not discussed in detail in this document but a suitable unit may be sourced from around 30 from PC World I would recommend the NetGear ProSafe units as they are reliable and can be had in 5, 8, 16 and 24 port versions. It is not necessary to use the Gigabit versions for audio streaming but they are not significantly more expensive than the Fast Ethernet versions so I tend to buy them for futureproofing.) You should now add any required WiFi devices - the EA7500s WiFi networks will be seen as NaimWiFi_2.4GHz and NaimWiFi_5GHz and you should connect all your WiFi devices to those networks if they are connected to your old WiFi network then they will not be able to see the devices on the new router. You should now have a properly functioning isolated network - END -
