Check how far the 1769-HSC is from the Power Supply You can install as many modules as your power supply can support; however, the HSC module has a power supply distance rating of four, which means that it can not be more than four modules away from the system power supply. Red (briefly)--performing self-test Solid Green--OK, normal operating condition Flashing Green--OK, module in Program or Fault mode Solid Red or Amber--Hardware error. Cycle power to the module. If problem persists, replace the module. Flashing Red--Recoverable fault. Reconfigure, reset, or perform error recovery Does the A LED flash when the input signal goes high? 12 Number 4 Number 4: Why can t I communicate over EtherNet with my brand new 5330/5370 CompactLogix controller? Check how far away is the CompactLogix from the Power Supply. The 5330/5370 controller has a power supply distance rating of four, which means that it cannot be more than four modules away from the system power supply. Copyright 2017 Rockwell Automation, Inc. Try resetting the Controller back to Factory Default To clear the memory of a 5330 CompactLogix, you would have to power down, disconnect the battery behind the left end cap, and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. To clear the memory of a 5370 CompactLogix, you would have to power down, press the reset button that is directly below the Run/Rem/Prog switch, power up with the button depressed until the LEDs finish their power up sequence. Try Serial Communication with the 5330 CompactLogix If the DCH0 LED is ON, that means the serial port is set to Default DF1 communications settings. If it is OFF, you can use a paper clip to press the small CH0 pushbutton in the bottom right corner of the controller until the DCH0 LED turns ON. You would use a standard null modem cable, Rockwell part number 1747-CP3 or 1756-CP3. If your computer does not have a serial port, you can use Rockwell s USB to Serial converter, 9300-USBS. Try using USB Communication with the 5370 CompactLogix You would use a standard USB A/B cable, Rockwell part number 9300-USBCBL-ABHR2. When you first connect the cable to the controller with RSLinx, the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box will appear. Click any of the Windows Update connection options and click Next. Click Install the software automatically (Recommended) and click Next. Click Finish to setup the USB driver. Go to RSLinx>RSWho browse to the controller. Go to Module Properties> Module Info Tab. This tab tells you the properties of the actual physical module in this slot. 20 Number 3 Why are there yellow triangles on the Local I/O in the I/O Configuration? 16#0115: Electronic Keying Mismatch. Electronic keying product type mismatch. Now go the General Tab and look under Module Definition. Keying Attributes are Vendor, Product Type, Major Revision and Minor Revision. Here is a description of the types of Electronic Keying: Exact Match Keying requires all keying attributes of the physical module to match precisely the keying attributes of the module created in the software before establishing communication. This is frequently used in the pharmaceutical industry Compatible Keying is the default setting. Compatible Keying allows the physical module to accept the key of the module configured in the software, provided that the configured module is one the physical module is capable of emulating. Disabled Keying indicates the keying attributes are not considered when attempting to communicate with a module. Other attributes, such as data size and format, are considered and must be acceptable before communication is established. With Disabled Keying, I/O communication may occur with a module other than the type specified in the I/O Configuration tree with unpredictable results. 21 Number 3 Why are there yellow triangles on the Local I/O in the I/O Configuration? 16#0115: Electronic Keying Mismatch. Electronic keying product type mismatch. Compare the Type, Series, and Revision found here on the General Tab with the Type, Series, and Revision of the physical module on the Module Info Tab. If there is a mismatch between this information, you will have to correct it on this tab. In this example, there is an entirely wrong module in the slot.it is defined as a 1734-IV8; however, there is actually a ASC module in the slot. To resolve this mismatch, you would change the settings on the General Tab to match the Module Info Tab. Sometimes, you have make these changes offline and download to the Controller. 22 Number 3 Why are there yellow triangles on the Local I/O in the I/O Configuration? Another common error is 16#0010: At least one required connection is not established before going into run mode. You may see it on the Compact Bus or on a specific module. The controller will fault with Type 03 Code 23 Fault if you try to go to Run. First verify if the Major Fault on Controller If Connection Fails in Run Mode box is checked on any of the modules with a yellow triangle. If it is, you can uncheck this box and the Controller fault should go away. Frequently this error will occur on power up and is a timing issue. Copyright 2017 Rockwell Automation, Inc. Verify all the white locking Tabs on the modules and endcap are pushed to the left in the locked position. Try disconnecting the modules in the rack and check the connection pins. Verify that none of the pins are bent or missing. Check the rack layout for module distance from the power supply: are there 3 or less modules between the Power Supply and Controller? Are there 8 or less modules to the right of the Power Supply? Are there any Specialty Modules that should be within 4 slots? If this is a 5370 L1 controller, you will get this error if the number of expansion modules set under Controller Properties>General Tab does not match the actual number modules in the rack. 24 Number 3 Why are there yellow question marks on the Local I/O in the I/O Configuration? If you still get the fault 16#0010, then there is a hardware issue that may not be easy to troubleshoot. All communication is passed down the backplane that is created by the interconnecting modules. Data from ALL the modules is passed up and down that backplane, regardless of their position in the rack. Sometimes, an issue that appears to be in one slot could be caused by a hardware issue in another slot. Try these steps to determine where the issue exists: 1. Create a blank project with just 1 or 2 modules and download that to the controller. 2. Power down and set up your hardware to match that configuration. 3. Move the endcap to the right-end of the newly created rack. 4. Power up and go to Run. 5. If that works, then add 1 module at a time until the issue appears. Copyright 2017 Rockwell Automation, Inc. If you add all the modules without reproducing the fault, then the issue may be a corruption in the project, then follow these steps: 1. Open project.acd file. 2. Select File-->Save As. 3. Browse to where you want to save the file. 4. In the File name field, type a new name for the.l5k file. 5. From the Save As type list, select the.l5k file format and click Save. 6. Then go to File-->Close to close original project. 7. Now select File-->Open and browse to the.l5k file you just created and click Open. 8. The Save Imported Project As dialog box opens, browse to where you want to save the imported project. 9. In the File name box, type the name of the imported project and click Import. 10. 28 Number 2 Why are there yellow triangles on the remote EtherNet I/O in the I/O configuration? 16#0204 Unconnected message timeout: This error occurs when the controller tries to make a connection with a device and gets no response. 16#0203 Connection timeout: This error occurs when a forward open connection is established but there is no data being not transferred. If yes, the subnet mask on the controller needs to match the subnet mask on the remote device. If no, there has to be a defined Gateway address for both devices and the Gateway address has to be on the same subnet as the device and valid for the network. Here s where it gets a little tricky: If they are on the same subnet, then the Duplex/Speed settings have to match. If they are on different subnets, then the Duplex/Speed settings have to match the settings of the switch port they are connected to. If these settings don t match, then there will be network issues and possible loss of communications. This is called a Duplex Mismatch. Try to get to the Web Page of both devices. 7. Check for network noise and interruptions. 8. If you are using a managed switch, make sure the port on the switch is configured correctly for an automation device. 9. If these devices are part of a Device Level Ring(DLR) network, verify there is a Supervisor for the network and that the Subnet Mask of the Supervisor is not too large (ie ). This error usually occurs with 1734-AENT/R and 1738-AENTR adapters. When first configuring, they require an additional step of Setting the Chassis Size: 1. In RSLogix/Studio 5000, open the offline project. 2. In the I/O tree, right mouse click on the adapter and select Properties. 3. Set the chassis size on the General tab to one more than the number of I/O modules attached to the adapter. 4. Download this offline file to the controller and go online. 5. Verify the covering on the end cap has not been removed from the 2. Go to the Adapter Webpage>Browse Chassis. Compare the physical modules to the modules in the list AND to the modules in the IO configuration in Studio If there is a mismatch then there could be a hardware issue with a module or base. 3. Verify your power supply is large enough to power all the modules on the backplane. 4. Verify that Electronic Keying is not disabled on any of the modules. You may have to install the latest version of AOP. 5. Verify the slot numbers of the modules in the IO Configuration are in sequential order. Point I/O does not support unused slots in the rack. You can upgrade to the 5380 CompactLogix. The new 5069 Controllers allow you to assign different IP addresses to the embedded ports. This is called Dual IP Mode. Another Rockwell solution is to use a Network Address Translation device like a 1783-NATR or 9300-ENA. Both of these devices have dual port technology for an isolated machine network and a third port that can be programmed for the plant/control network on a different subnet. They can be configured to only allow certain IP addresses through to the isolated machine network. Prosoft has a module that will go on the 1769 backplane, it s part number is MVI69-DFNT. From ProSoft s Website: The MVI69-DFNT module is a single slot solution that provides a powerful connection between Rockwell Automation's CompactLogix processor and EtherNet/IP network applications. The module can send read or write commands to remote devices on the EtherNet/IP network. The MVI69-DFNT also has 20 servers that allows the module to receive commands from remote devices. Up to 100 commands can be configured by the user.
