2 0 Overview Thank you for choosing Nietzsche STH-01ZB Series ZigBee wireless temperature and humidity data logger with the capability of reporting real-time temperature and humidity statistics to your computer or smart device (via a compatible ZigBee parent device). 4 2 Setting and Using STH-01ZB 2.1 Powering/Recharging STH-01ZB Requirements: Live AC Mains Socket (for AC power and recharging options) OFF ON Mini-USB to USB Cable Power Adapter Live AC Mains Socket 1. When you want to power STH-01ZB with AC power source or recharge STH-01ZB s internal battery, connect STH-01ZB to the power adapter via the mini-usb to USB cable, then plug the power adapter into a live AC mains socket. 2. Turn the power switch to the ON position. STH-01ZB will power ON, beep-indicate current alarm setting (see Using STH-01ZB s Alarm Features section for definitions), and briefly display all symbols on the LCD display. 3. STH-01ZB will sample and log temperature and humidity statistics at specified time interval or whenever you click Report/Reset button once (see Setting STH-01ZB section). 4. To turn off STH-01ZB, simply turn the power switch to the OFF position. 2.2 Using the LCD Display The LCD is normally displaying statistics with the following symbols: 1. Wireless activity 2. Low battery: Recharge the battery when this symbol appears. 3. Current time: Displays current time in 24-hour format. 4. Mode/Alarm cursor: Indicates current setup/display mode and/or limit breach alarm(s). The cursor is normally in Overwrite (Display Mode) position while the LCD displays statistics. Additional cursor(s) over TUL, TLL, HUL, and/or HLL indicate(s) the corresponding alarm state(s). 5. Current temperature: Press the C / F/Down button to toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit. 6. Current humidity 4
5 2.3 Setting STH-01ZB 1. If necessary, long press Setting button for at least 1 second to enter setup mode. 2. Press Setting button one or more time to advance the mode cursor to the desired setup/display mode, which will cycle as follows: Overwrite (Display Mode) ID Time (Year Month Day Hour Minute) TUL TLL HUL HLL Sample Overwrite (Overwrite Setting) After about 40 seconds of inactivity, the mode cursor automatically reverts back to the Overwrite (Display Mode) position with LCD displaying statistics. 3. When you reach a setup mode listed below, press Mute/Up or C / F/Down button to adjust values: Setup Mode Values Descriptions ID Sets a 3-digit ID number for this device. This setting is only needed for the Modbus system. Year Sets current year. Month Sets current month. Time Day Sets current day (actual selection range differs by month). Hour Sets current hour in 24-hour format. Minute Sets current minute. TUL C F Sets temperature upper limit before triggering alarm. TLL C F Sets temperature lower limit before triggering alarm. HUL % Sets humidity upper limit before triggering alarm. HLL % Sets humidity lower limit before triggering alarm. Sample Overwrite (Overwrite Setting) y, n Time interval (minutes) for sampling temperature and humidity data from the sensors, logging data to internal memory, and reporting data to the parent device; you can manually force these actions at any time by clicking Report/Reset button once. Sets the option (yes or no) to overwrite internal memory when the internal memory is full. The default option is yes. After finishing setup above, press Setting button or let STH-01ZB be idle for a period to return the mode cursor to the Overwrite (Display Mode) position. 4. Clear Data Log: The internal memory can log up to 4000 samples of temperature and humidity data at once. To clear logged data from internal memory, press and hold Setting and C / F/Down buttons until STH-01ZB beeps once. 5. Automatic Display Off option: This option automatically turns off the LCD display after about 40 seconds of inactivity. To enable/disable this option, press and hold Setting and Mute/Up buttons until you hear the beep sound once. This option will toggle between enabled and disabled. Disabled (default setting) Enabled 5
6 2.4 Setting STH-01ZB s Alarm Relay Features (optional) Requirements: Relay device Size 4-5 slot/flat-blade screwdriver 1, 5 3 OFF ON V+ V- NC C NO NO C NC V- V+ 2, 4 DC12V (optional) + - Relay Device Your STH-01ZB features relay output connectors to drive an external relay device when an alarm state occurs. 1. Power OFF STH Loosen relay output connector securing screws. 3. Connect the relay output connectors as shown in the illustrations above. 4. Tighten relay output connector securing screws. 5. Power ON STH-01ZB and your relay device(s). Relay outputs will invert whenever an alarm state occurs (see Using STH-01ZB s Alarm Features section), thereby sending the alarm state to the relaying device. 2.5 Using STH-01ZB s Alarm Features 1. Press (or long press) the Mute/Up button to enable/disable alarm sound with beep indications: Beep Indication Beep once Beep twice Alarm Sound Setting Enabled Disabled 2. Set TUL, TLL, HUL, and HLL limits as described in the previous Setting STH-01ZB section. 3. The table below lists all possible limit breach alarm conditions and the corresponding actions: Limit Name TUL TLL HUL HLL Alarm State Definitions Current temperature exceeds TUL limit. Current temperature falls below TLL limit. Current humidity exceeds HUL limit. Current humidity falls below HLL limit. Alarm Action(s) An alarm cursor will appear over TUL. Alarm will sound if enabled. Relay outputs will invert if connected. An alarm cursor will appear over TLL. Alarm will sound if enabled. Relay outputs will invert if connected. An alarm cursor will appear over HUL. Alarm will sound if enabled. Relay outputs will invert if connected. An alarm cursor will appear over HLL. Alarm will sound if enabled. Relay outputs will invert if connected. 4. While the alarm is sounding, you can temporarily disable the alarm action(s) (i.e. turn off alarm cursor(s), mute alarm sound, and/or un-invert relay outputs) for about 4 minutes by pressing the Mute/Up button once. 6
7 3 Logging STH-01ZB Wirelessly 3.1 LED Indicators and Report/Reset Button Actions The STH-01ZB LED status is summarized below: STH-01ZB LED Green LED: 1 flash every 5 seconds Green LED: 3 flashes (one time) Green LED: 1 flash every 2 seconds Green LED: 2 flashes every 5 seconds Red LED: Rapid flashing up to 30 seconds Red LED: 1 flash every 30 seconds Green & Red LED: ON Status Ready to Join ready to join network of parent device (coordinator, gateway, or router) Successfully Joined joined network of parent device Normal Operations joined network of parent device and functioning normally Disconnected joined network, but unable to find any parent device of the network Removing being removed from the network of the parent device Low Power low battery power, recharge the battery immediately ZigBee Reset reset to factory default, remove all ZigBee network linkages The STH-01ZB Report/Reset button (S1 link switch) actions are summarized below: Operation Report Status Remove from Network ZigBee Reset Report/Reset Button (S1 Link Switch) Actions Press once Press 3 times within 1.5 seconds Press and hold for 3 seconds 3.2 Joining STH-01ZB to Parent Device s IoT Network Requirements: A parent device hosting the IoT (Internet of Things) network, such as a coordinator (eg. WZB- 01USBC, WZB-02485C) or a gateway (eg. G07, WZB-05ET); a router (eg. WZB-01USBR, WZB R) can be used to extend communication range Your STH-01ZB will need to join a parent device s IoT network before it can log temperature and humidity statistics to an external computer, smart device, etc. 7
8 1. Ensure parent device is powered on (see relevant device s manual). 2. Power on STH-01ZB (see Powering/Recharging STH-01ZB section) ensuring it is in Ready to Join status (LED flashes once every 5 seconds). 3. Enable Permit Join status on parent device (see relevant device s manual) and check that STH-01ZB has joined the parent device s IoT network. 4. If STH-01ZB has successfully joined the parent device, STH-01ZB will show Successfully Joined status (LED flashes 2 times) then Normal Operations status (LED flashes once every 2 seconds). 5. If STH-01ZB does not show Normal Operations status (LED does not flash once every 2 seconds), then it has not successfully joined. Reset STH-01ZB (see Resetting STH-01ZB section) and repeat steps 3-4 until STH-01ZB has joined successfully. If STH-01ZB has still not joined after a few attempts, check it is within the communication range of the parent device and away from other 2.4GHz devices that might interfere with its operations. 6. If STH-01ZB has joined successfully, but shows Disconnected status (LED flashes twice every 5 seconds), then check parent device is correctly powered on. If the parent device is functioning correctly, STH-01ZB may be out of range or experiencing interference; additional router(s) may need to be added to ensure good connections. 7. To improve STH-01ZB s communications with the parent device, you may reorient STH-01ZB s antenna along its rotation plane. DO NOT bend the antenna perpendicular to its rotation plane. 3.3 Logging STH-01ZB Statistics with DataView/QuickView Requirements: A parent device hosting the IoT network, such as a coordinator (eg. WZB-01USBC, WZB-02485C, or WZB-05ET); a router (eg. WZB-01USBR, WZB-02485R) can be used to extend communication range. Windows PC that can install DataView/QuickView 1. Ensure that STH-01ZB has successfully joined a parent device (see Joining STH-01ZB to Parent Device s IoT Network section). 2. For HA (Home Automation) models (STH-01ZBE-HAxxxx, STH-01ZBEX-HAxxxx) (please see DataView user manual or online tutorials for more detailed and updated instructions): a) Install and launch DataView on a Windows PC. Ensure that the parent device can successfully communicate with DataView, and make sure that your STH-01ZB unit(s) can be correctly identified. b) DataView will display current temperature, humidity, etc. reported by your STH-01ZB. 8
9 c) From the main menu, select Tools Download Log(STH-01). Check the box corresponding to the STH-01ZB unit of interest. Click Start to download data log. After successful download, DataView will automatically save all downloaded data samples to a.csv log file. 3. For Modbus models (STH-01ZBE-x-xxx) (please see QuickView user manual or online tutorials for more detailed and updated instructions): a) Set a unique ID number for each of your STH-01ZB unit(s) (see Setting STH-01ZB section). b) Install and launch QuickView on a Windows PC. Ensure that the parent device can successfully communicate with QuickView, and make sure that your STH-01ZB unit(s) can be correctly identified. c) QuickView will display current temperature, humidity, etc. reported by your STH-01ZB. d) From the main menu, select Tools Download Log(STH-01). Check the box corresponding to the STH-01ZB unit of interest. Click Start to download data log. After successful download, QuickView will automatically save all downloaded data samples to a.csv log file. 3.4 Logging STH-01ZB Statistics with Sentrol Cloud Requirements: A gateway (parent device) hosting the IoT network (eg. G07) A computer or smart device with a web browser or Sentrol Cloud app installed 1. Ensure that your STH-01ZB has joined your gateway s IoT network. 2. Ensure that you have a valid Sentrol Cloud account with your gateway(s) registered (for account and gateway registration, please follow instructions on ). 3. If you are using a smart device (smartphone, tablet, etc.), install the Sentrol Cloud app on your smart device. 4. Go to the website or launch the Sentrol Cloud app, then login to Sentrol Cloud with your Sentrol Cloud account. 5. After proper profile setup, Sentrol Cloud will track and log STH-01ZB's current temperature and humidity data with features and storage capacities far exceeding those of STH-01ZB itself. Please refer to Sentrol Cloud user manual or online tutorials for detailed instructions. 3.5 Removing STH-01ZB from Parent Device s IoT Network 1. Ensure that the parent device is powered on (see relevant device's manual) and is within communication range of STH-01. 9
10 2. Ensure STH-01ZB is powered on (see Powering/Recharging STH-01ZB section) and has already joined the parent device's IoT network (green LED flash once every 2 seconds). 3. Apply 3 quick presses to the Report/Reset button, then STH-01ZB will show Removing status (red LED rapidly flashing for up to 30 seconds) until STH-01ZB is successfully removed from the parent device s IoT network. 4. If STH-01ZB has been successfully removed, STH-01ZB will show Ready to Join status (green LED flash once every 5 seconds). Note : Definition of Removing STH-01ZB will no longer appear in the parent device s wireless group list after removing STH-01ZB from the parent device s IoT network. 3.6 Resetting STH-01ZB 1. When to reset STH-01ZB: STH-01ZB s parent device (coordinator, gateway, or router) is no longer available or have been reset. 2. Apply a 5-second press to the Report/Reset button, the green & red LEDs will both come ON during the reset (ZigBee Reset status). 3. After reset, STH-01ZB should show Ready to Join status (green LED will flash once every 5 seconds). Note : Definition of Reset STH-01ZB will remain in the parent device IoT network s wireless group list after resetting STH-01ZB (unless the parent device has been reset). 4 Mounting STH-01ZB on the Wall Requirements: Mounting fixtures Drill with 5mm (0.2 inches) drill bit size (if using wall plugs) or 3.5mm (0.14 inches) drill bit size (if not using wall plugs) Size 1 Phillips screwdriver Hammer (if using wall plugs) 3-5 6, 8 7, 8 1. Ensure that STH-01ZB has joined your parent device s IoT network (see Joining STH-01ZB to Parent Device s IoT Network section) before installing mounting fixtures. 2. Find an optimal installation spot on the wall within communication range of your parent device. 10

If necessary, pre-drill mounting holes using mounting plate for alignment, then use appropriate drill bit to drill the holes 5mm (approx. 0.2 inches) if using wall plugs or 3.5mm (approx inches) if not using wall plugs. 4. If necessary, hammer wall plugs into the 2 mounting holes. 5. Align the 2 screw holes of the mounting plate with the 2 mounting holes, then use size 1 Phillips screwdriver to fasten the screws securing the mounting cradle. Note: Pay careful attention to the orientation of the mounting plate. 6. While aiming STH-01ZB s wall mount latch holes to the mounting plate s wall mount latches, place STH-01ZB onto the mounting plate. 7. Allow STH-01ZB to drop and mount onto the mounting plate. 8.
