2 Description TINY Drive TDS 2/4 is an universal microprocessor controller designed to control and diagnose several types of DC fans. Controller allows to control every fan equipped with dedicated PWM control line (PWM is acronym of Pulse Width Modulation). Controller has four configurable feedback lines (TACHO inputs), which allows to diagnose potential problems or failures of connected fans. The TDS 2/4 controller can also diagnose other abnormal system conditions eg. improper supply voltage, too high or too low environment temperature, failure of the temperature sensor. Any detected problem can be indicated via built in relays which can also be used for control and information of the external systems. Controller supports two separate work characteristics, which means that each fan (or group of fans) can be controlled according to individual preset parameters. Possibility of separation of the work characteristics for each of the connected fan is especially useful in cases when a few of fans are placed outside cooling object and the noise is emitted directly into the environment. 3 High precision of sensor and wide range of temperature measurements. Very accurate setting of the fan power (1% step in full range ). Configuration of output relays as N.O. or N.C. via configuration software. Configuration of PWM frequency for many fan types. Configurable feedback lines as TACHO counters or binary inputs. Ability of free assignment of alarms or functions to particular output relays. Supply voltage monitoring. Programmable parameters include: - Smooth edition of the characteristics. - Hysteresis of temperature. - Feedback lines activity. - Alarm thresholds. - Thermostat parameters. Expandability for TDS 2/4 It is possible to extend controller functions by adding additional elements: Additional temperature sensor (backup sensor). Additional fans (more than four) External alarm collector to monitor condition of additional fans. User can also change the driver firmware (via built in bootloader), which provides the possibility to change the functionality of the device in very wide range. Configuration software The TDS 2/4 controller cooperates with multi lingual configuration and diagnostic software, which gives free choice of configuration and operation parameters of the device in compliance to user needs. Editable characteristics of temperature vs. power, allows to configure the fan operation precisely, with special attention to noise emission, which in case of telecom applications is a key operation parameter of the entire cooling system. The controller operates using two working characteristics, which means, that each actuator segment may work according to it's own set of parameters and settings. The possibility to divide working characteristics for each of actuator segments is particularly useful in case, when some of fan sets is operated outdoors and noise of spinning fans is emitted into the environment.

5 The determined characteristic and other parameters may be recorded on any mediumm and transferred to other devices. It is also possible to program a pre set operationn characteristic at the stage of device production. Configuration software has very tiny requirements; it needs any PC with Windows 2000 (at least) operating system and RS 232 serial port or proper adapter. WARNING! Pleasee pay special attention to proper connectionn of the fan power supply especially fan ground wire Accidental disconnection of the ground wire during fan operation will destroy fan tacho sensor circuit and/or fan PWM circuit. Duringg setup please ensure thatt the TDS 2/4 controller and the PC are connected by USB RS232 interface with optical separation. Using cable withou ut optical separation is only possible from laptop computer disconnected from the mains.
