9 Chapter 2 For PRIMERGY 2.1 Setup Procedure for non-s26361-f3023-e1 Fibre Channel Cards This section describes how to set up the VMware ESX server for use with the S26361-F2843-E1/ S26361-F2843-E201, S26361-F3141-E10/S26361-F3141-E210, S26361-F3141-E1, S F3306-E1/S26361-F3306-E201, S26361-F3961-E1/S26361-F3961-E201, S26361-F3961-E2/ S26361-F3961-E202, S26361-F3306-E601, or MC-FC82E Fibre Channel card. When the S26361-F3023-E1 Fibre Channel card is used, follow the procedure in "2.2 Setup Procedure for S26361-F3023-E1 Fibre Channel Cards" (page 21). Depending on the Fibre Channel card used, the actual on-screen Fibre Channel card information may differ from that in the screenshots shown in this document Setting Up the Fibre Channel Card Install the Fibre Channel card to the server and acquire its physical address and WWN (World Wide Name). Physical address and Fibre Channel card WWN are required information in the cases shown as follows; when an error has occurred in the system, when using the ETERNUS Disk storage systems' host affinity function, etc., to restrict server access, or when connecting the ETERNUS Disk storage systems and the server using Fibre Channel switch. The relationship between a physical address and WWN cannot be determined from the BIOS. The physical address and WWN must be recorded as a pair when each Fibre Channel card is installed. Physical address and WWN must be assigned to "WWN instance management table for the server". The procedures are described below: (1) Install the Fibre Channel card (2) Turn on the server (3) Acquire the physical address and WWN for the Fibre Channel card (4) Add a record for the server in the WWN instance management table for the server 9
10 > 2.1 Setup Procedure for non-s26361-f3023-e1 Fibre Channel Cards The following describes the procedure: Procedure 1 Install the Fibre Channel card to the server. For the installation method, slot positions and notes regarding the Fibre Channel card, refer to the manual provided with the Fibre Channel card or the User Guide of the server. 2 Turn on the server, and press the [Alt] + [E] keys while the following message is displayed. Light Pulse BIOS Utility starts. Example:!!! BX600-FC42E BIOS, Copyright(C) 2005 Emulex!!! Version xxxxxx Press <Alt E> to go to Emulex BIOS Utility. Press <s> to skip Emulex BIOS 3 Enter the number of the Fibre Channel card to be checked and press the [Enter] key. 11 > 2.1 Setup Procedure for non-s26361-f3023-e1 Fibre Channel Cards 5 Record the physical address and WWN in the "WWN instance management table for the server". This table is provided in "Appendix A WWN Instance Management Table for the Server (Blank)" (page 39). The following shows an example of this. Host name Server#1 IP Address Physical slot name Fibre Channel card WWN Instance name Physical address Cable tag slot C9 38 D SERV1_SLOT0 to SN200_1_port0 Details of contents Host name: IP Address: Physical slot name: Fibre Channel card WWN: Instance name: Physical address: Cable tag: Record the host name. Record the IP address of the server. Record the slot position of installed Fibre Channel card. Record the value of [Port Name]. Not necessary to record. Record the value of [I/O Base]. Record a tag name which indicates the connection path (relationship between the connected device and the port). 6 Press the [X] key to quit the Light Pulse BIOS Utility. When the total number of ports for installed Fibre Channel cards is two or more, first turn the server off, then repeat Step 1 through Step 6 above for each port, and record the information for all ports in the "WWN instance management table for the server". End of procedure Setting Up SAN Boot The following describes the procedure when performing SAN Boot. Depending on the Fibre Channel card used, the actual on-screen Fibre Channel card information may differ from that in the screenshots shown in this document. 11

When connecting to the ETERNUS4000 or ETERNUS8000, the parameters for the Fibre Channel card driver do not have to be changed because the default values of the standard driver for VMware ESX are used. 17
18 > 2.1 Setup Procedure for non-s26361-f3023-e1 Fibre Channel Cards For VMware vsphere F Procedure 1 Record the module name for the Fibre Channel card that is loaded into VMware ESX. In the following example, "lpfc820" is recorded as the module name. # vmkload_mod -l grep lpfc* lpfc820 Loaded module name Module names may vary depending on the Fibre Channel card that is used. 2 Check the default value for the Fibre Channel card. Specify the module name for the Fibre Channel card that you recorded in Step 1 and check the default value. # esxcfg-module -g lpfc820 lpfc820 enabled = 1 options = '' Check that no value appears. 3 Check the number of ports on the Fibre Channel card. The SCSI Host numbers of the Fibre Channel card that are displayed represent the number of ports. In the following example, the number of ports is "two" since "4" and "5" (two numbers) are displayed as the SCSI Host numbers of the Fibre Channel card. # ls /proc/scsi/lpfc 4 5 The number of ports is "two". 4 Change the setting values of the parameter for the Fibre Channel card driver. Driver parameter Number of I/Os when 16 or less LUNs are used Driver parameter setting values Number of I/Os when 17 or more LUNs are used lpfcx_lun_queue_depth 8 4 Use the following command to change the setting values when the driver parameter name is "lpfcx_lun_queue_depth", the number of I/Os is "8", the module name is "lpfc820", and the number of ports is "2". # esxcfg-module -s "lpfc0_lun_queue_depth=8 lpfc1_lun_queue_depth=8" lpfc820 Input the number of I/Os ("8" in this example) for each driver parameter setting. 18
19 > 2.1 Setup Procedure for non-s26361-f3023-e1 Fibre Channel Cards 5 Check the setting values. # esxcfg-module -g lpfc820 lpfc820 enabled = 1 options = 'lpfc0_lun_queue_depth=8 lpfc1_lun_queue_depth=8' 6 Reboot VMware ESX. # reboot End of procedure For VMware Infrastructure 3 Procedure 1 Record the module name for the Fibre Channel card that is loaded into VMware ESX. In the following example, "lpfc_740" is recorded as the module name. # vmkload_mod -l grep lpfc* lpfc_740 Loaded module name Module names may vary depending on the Fibre Channel card that is used. 2 Check the default value for the Fibre Channel card. Specify the module name for the Fibre Channel card that you recorded in Step 1 and check the default value. # esxcfg-module -g lpfc_740 lpfc_740 enabled = 1 options = '' Check that no value appears. 3 Check the number of ports on the Fibre Channel card. The SCSI Host numbers of the Fibre Channel card that are displayed represent the number of ports.
