Technical Information PCB Relay For UCV Component Description The PCB relay for the snorkel is a micro-processor based control. Simply stated, the control uses a CPU (central processing unit) to detect Switch status and to apply the appropriate polarity (negative or positive) To the DC motor to run the snorkel in the down or up position respectively. The switches used to signal the CPU are: Up limit switch: closes when snorkel reaches top position. down limit switch; closes when the snorkel reaches the down position. Interference switch: opens when the snorkel travel is obstructed. The snorkel will reverse direction until the switch closes. Once the obstruction is removed, and the snorkel button is pressed, the snorkel will travel in the up direction. Here s how it works: Based upon the status of the 3 switches, the control PCB powers up the DC motor (in the positive or the negative polarity) when the snorkel button is pressed. Example: When the snorkel button is pressed (upward and downward travel): With the snorkel in the down position, the down limit switch (N.O.) is closed; the up limit switch (N.O.) is open; the interference switch (N.O.) is also closed. The CPU detects this combination of switches and applies positive (+) polarity to the dc motor. The snorkel will travel upward. With the snorkel in the up position, the down limit switch (N.O.) is open; the up limit switch (N.O.) is closed; the interference switch (N.C.) is also closed. The CPU detects this combination of switches and applies negative (-) polarity to the DC motor. The snorkel will travel downward. Page 14

Component Description Relay PC The following components are mounted on the relay board; 5 Relays 1 Step-down Transformer 4 Pin Connectors. 1 External Wire Connector There is a step-down transformer on the PCB that receives 120 V.A.C. and steps down to 12 V.A.C. a series of zenner diodes then rectifies these 12 V.A.C. to 12 V.D.C. to activate the five relay coils. The five relays control the following components: Relay # 1 output to motor for up travel Relay # 2 output to motor for down travel Relay # 3 high speed output for motor (vent) Relay # 4 medium: speed output for motor (vent) Relay # 5 low speed output for motor (vent) The four pin connectors are input/output connectors. They are numbered: J2, J3, J4, J6 and supply the following: J2 OUT supplies 24 V.D.C. to motor J3 OUT/IN supplies D.C. volts to LED lights, and supplies input to relay board from control PCB. J4 OUT supplies current to the up/down limit switches J6 OUT/IN supplies 120 V.A.C. to the transformer; the transformer steps down to 24 V.A.C. and sends the current back to the relay board. TERMINAL BLOCK The terminal block has six taps that accept external wire leads. The taps are marked; line, neutral, neutral, high, medium, low, and supply power supply and the three motor speeds. Page 17
Snorkel Up/ Down button Blower Controls Control PCB The Control board sends commands to the relay board to operate according to the user's selection. Page 18
D.C. Motor The motor is energized by 24 V.D.C. from the relay board. The Volatge is rectified by a series of Zenner diode on the relay board. Page 19
Primary (120 V.A.C.) Secondary (24 V.D.C.) Motor Step-down Transformer The motor step-down transformer steps down 120 V.A.C. to 24 V.A.C. The 24 V.A.C. are rectified to 24 V.D.C. to run the motor. Page 20
Up Limit Switch Interference Switch Up Limit Switch The Up Limit Switch is a (S.P.S.T.) normally open switch. When the snorkel reaches the upper position, the switch closes a circuit which stops the motor. Page 21
Down limit switch Down Limit Switch The Down Limit Switch is a (S.P.S.T.) nomrally open switch. When the snorkel reaches the lowest position, this switch closes a circuit which stops the motor. Page 22
Interference Switch Interference Switch The Interference Switch is a (S.P.S.T.) normally closed switch. If an obstruction interferes with the downward motion of the snorkel, the switch opens a circuit that stops the motor. Page 23
Trouble Shooting UL C Troubleshooting Testing components: The testing of the following components can be done at the relay board pin connectors. To test up limit switch: 1) Turn off electrical power to the unit. 2) Set the ohmmeter to the rx1 scale. 3) Touch the test leads to the common and the ul terminals on the J4 Pin connector of the relay board. 4) The meter should indicate an open circuit. 5) Press the switch leaf to close the contacts. The meter should indicate a short circuit. Page 24
Trouble Shooting C DL J3 To test down limit switch: 6) Turn off electrical power to the unit. 7) Set the ohmmeter to the RX1 scale. 8) Touch the test leads to the common and the DL terminals on the J4 Pin connector of the relay board. 9) The meter should indicate an open circuit. 10) Press the switch leaf to close the contacts. The meter should indicate a short circuit. Page 25
Trouble Shooting To test down interference switch: 11) Turn off electrical power to the unit. 12) Set the ohmmeter to the rx1 scale. 13) Disconnect the black/blue wires from the interference switch to the control pcb. 14) Touch the test leads across the black/blue wires. 15) The meter should indicate an open circuit. 16) Press the svvitch leaf to close the contacts. The meter should indicate a short circuit. Page 26
Trouble Shooting 24 VAC L N To test the motor step down transformer: 17) Turn off electrical power to the unit. 18) Set the ohmmeter to the RX1 scale. 19) Touch the test leads across the neutral and line terminals on the J6 pin connector of the relay board. 20) The meter should indicate approximately 18 ohms. 21) Touch the test leads across the 24 VAC terminals on the j6 pin connector of the relay board. 22) The meter should indicate approximately 6 ohms Page 27
