Intended for the protection of LV panels for installations at high risk of lightning strike: installations equipped with a lightning conductor (F C ; T1 surge protective devices mandatory) or having experienced lightning strike. rovide compliance with E/IEC 6305 standards according to Legrand recommendations (see 1..) : standard capacity single-pole surge protective device S (Iimp = 1.5 ka). rotection of master distribution panels in a single-phase (+) and three-phase (+) network, for residential installations and small businesses. Surge protective devices must not be installed in locations where a risk of fire or explosion exists unless special arrangements are provided. 1. Use 1..1 F C standard (IeC 60364, HD 60364) According to F C (table 44B 443 and 534), surge protective devices are mandatory for any new installation (or during renovations): - Equipped with a lightning conductor: - With aerial power supply when located in a class AQ (k > 5) geographical area. In this case, the absence of surge protective devices may be justified by a risk analysis according to the UTE C method or any other recognised equivalent method. IMLeMetAtIo 5.1 overview If the type of installation and local regulations allow, Type 1 surge protective devices should preferably be installed upstream of the overall protection for the main panel (LV panel or consumer unit). eutral point connection TT: mandatory installation downstream from a residual current device (cat. no device can be installed upstream). 5 D D Modular surge protective devices Cat. o(s) : /0//3/ Branch connection (continued) / L legrand s L / L legrand s (E) m 5.5 Cascade optimisation Maximum effectiveness of an overvoltage protection system cannot be provided with a single surge protective device because of the increase in the residual voltage caused by resonance effects when the distance between the surge protective device and devices is greater than 10 m. That is why Legrand recommends the use of several surge protective devices arranged in a cascade with appropriate protection levels, from the first panel down to the device to be protected (proximity protection for sensitive devices). Above and beyond the regulatory obligations, there are several good reasons to install cascading surge protective devices: - Cost of the consequences of equipment downtime, - ature and cost of the equipment to be protected (computer systems, electronic equipment, etc.), - Location of the building (whether in proximity to a building equipped with a lightning conductor or devices equivalent to a lightning conductor such as metallic structures), - ature of the power supply (TT, TS), etc. The installation will be even better protected if it includes (in addition to the panel surge protective devices) type 3 proximity surge protective devices (wall sockets, multi-socket adapters, etc.) on the power supply sockets used for sensitive devices (computers, electronics, etc.) as well as telephone surge protective devices.
