7 Quality Collaboration in this Domain Typically we have asked whether the item under consideration was adequate for the intended domain Part, Unit, Subsystem, Payload, Spacecraft important and can t loose the recipe but How will this impact the constellation, mission, capability, resilience Brings to light new sets of interfaces, seams, questions.. can I have your model for that.. Is the model any good? is the architecture good? How do you know? I don t own all the interfaces how is this supposed to work my stuff worked right but the mission failed How do I collaborate with you Can I establish trust with you can we find a cross domain mission threads that works I don t even know who you are and what you do? 7

8 Working This Out Need a new era of joint collaboration to solve our customers hardest problems Three primary areas of focus: New ways to communicate - Standards, processes and tools that can enable cross contractor, government collaboration Moving up and out (of our stovepipes) to solve harder problems - inherently multi-agency, multi-contractor Depending on others; Relying on Enterprise Solutions as nobody can go it alone and nobody has deep enough pockets to address ALL of the challenges 8

13 Abstract There is a radical transformation taking place within the space community. A broad set of traditional and nontraditional entities now operate or plan to operate in a highly collaborative space domain that was once reserved for only a few nation states. As the space community seeks to move more quickly, with increased opportunities for technology insertion, automation, application of new acquisition approaches, and new perspectives on risk, new elements will need to be brought forward to address the challenges. Perspectives on decision approaches for addressing these challenges and the necessary associated collaboration within the context of a space enterprise vision will be presented in a goal to create an affordable, resilient architecture within the decade. 13
