NES provided an energy model and financial analysis during preliminary design to help the client make an informed decision of the cost and benefits of not using a conventional mechanical system. During this analysis, the decision was made to use air source heat pumps and ERVs to compartmentalize each suite and let every tenant control their own energy use by sub metering every suite. Multiple Self Storage Units (Ottawa, Ontario) 2016 Feasibility Study, ASHRAE LEVEL II Energy Audits, HPNC A Level II ASHRAE energy Audit was performed on 4 existing self-storage units ranging in size of 130,000 to 220,000 square feet. The purpose of the energy audits was to understand the current energy and construction practices of the client and create a feasibility study that will be used as a basis of design for upcoming projects. The feasibility report including Architectural, Mechanical, and Electrical design options with reviewing the payback analysis of switching from current design of rooftop units to ground source heat pumps over a 30-year period. 64 Main Street East (Hamilton, Ontario) 2016 Energy Design Consulting, Energy Modeling, HPNC This 15-story student residential building that is 190,000 square feet is being designed with our energy conservation recommendations of using heat pumps and ERVs in each suite. NES provided an energy model and financial analysis during preliminary design to help the client make an informed decision of the cost and benefits of not using a conventional mechanical system. This project is attempting to become a zero-combustion building by not using any gas in the building. This design will be the template to help the client eventually design future projects to net zero. Page 3 of 5

4 Commercial ATB Building (Edmonton, AB) LEED EB: O&M Implementation This 16-storey office tower in Edmonton was originally constructed in Enermodal provided an upgraded framework, with initiatives including identifying capital upgrades to reduce utility consumption. We prepared an EE4 energy model to review predicted savings for possible upgrades. A renovation is currently underway to reduce installed lighting power density and upgrade lighting controls. Concurrently, Enermodal is supporting the development of LEED EB: O&M policies and procedures, and performing an ASHRAE Level II energy audit of all existing building systems. Enermodal Engineering Head Office (Kitchener, ON) Sustainable design facilitation, construction management Enermodal s headquarters is anticipated to become Canada s most energy-efficient building, using 10% of the energy of a traditional office building. The three-storey building has a footprint of only 12 metres across to allow all employees access to daylighting and views. Utilizing an insulated concrete form construction, other building features include exterior window shadings connected to daylighting sensors, several small heat pumps, and interior vacancy sensors. A Grander View is anticipated to become Canada s first triple LEED Platinum certified project under the rating systems LEED NC, LEED CI, and LEED EB:O&M. Phipps McKinnon Building (Edmonton, AB) LEED EB: O&M Implementation Enermodal conducted a LEED EB: O&M feasibility study on this 21,595 m 2 office facility in downtown Edmonton and it is now pursuing LEED EB: O&M Silver certification. Systems addressed include air distribution, chilled water, domestic hot water, HVAC and operations & maintenance. Great West Life Commerce Place (Edmonton, AB) Feasibility Study The million square foot Commerce Place facility is composed of a combination of office and retail space. To assess the current status and position the facility for LEED EB: O&M, Enermodal completed an energy benchmarking and operations analysis. In addition, we completed a water efficiency assessment to determine the facility s current status, and reviewed existing policies to identify current gaps with LEED EB: O&M credit requirements. Enermodal s work provided the workplan for the individual facility studied, and an approach to assist in moving other facilities in the management firm s portfolio toward more sustainable practices and certification. Institutional Canmore Multiplex (Canmore, AB) Sustainable design facilitation This new multiplex for the Town of Canmore will include a library, a pool and fitness areas, and a large indoor rock climbing wall. The 5,100 m 2 building is targeting LEED Silver. The high energy use and indoor environmental control issues typically associated with pools will be mitigated by use of Page 4 of 5

5 triple-glazing, variable speed fans, and sensible heat recovery for the pool area. Edmonton New Remand Centre (Edmonton, AB) LEED Documentation Compiling and reviewing LEED documentation as well as performing required calculations for this large project targeting LEED Silver. This project involves seven individual buildings consisting of five retention pods, an administration office, and health care unit that are currently in construction. Fort Frances Youth Justice Facility (Fort Frances, ON) LEED documentation The Ge-Da-Gi Binez Youth Centre is a 1,800 m 2 twelve bed facility dedicated to aboriginal youth in conflict with the law. This LEED Silver certified facility includes social, classroom, recreation, staff and youth space. The project used FSC certified wood, a white reflective roof, low flow plumbing fixtures, recycled materials, regional materials, and various energy efficiency measures.
