7 Our Cooling Journey The Evolution of Cooling Technologies at Digital Realty A 12-YEAR HISTORY OF COOLING MISSION CRITICAL SPACES Initial data centers where inherited properties with traditional central chilled water plants First purpose built data centers featured dedicated air-cooled chillers Second generation were dedicated rooftop DX units with a plethora of variations adiabatic, air-side economization, etc. Current third generation design features dedicated split systems with economization A number of our data center campuses feature multiple cooling technologies 7
