4 Quick Scan Quick Scan Assessment The quick scan is an effective tool for gaining high level insight in sources of energy waste and saving opportunities Site Optimisation Info Optimisation IT optimisation The Quick Scan consists of three steps: Answering questionnaires by customer staff with the help of IBM consultants Analyzing the results Present the results and show possible solutions to save energy The Quick scan focuses on the most critical green aspects of a Data Center: Site and Facilities Data use IT workload Service Management 4 IBM Green Data Center Approach

5 Assessment Quick Scan Assessment In the assessment phase the possible solutions will be analyzed more in deep, leading to a specific Roadmap for the customer Site Optimisation Info Optimisation IT optimisation The assessment is based on : Results from the Quick Scan The predefined scenarios, enabling an effective selection of proven solutions The outcome of the assessment is the Roadmap for the customer, containing the: Products and services needed in time Project plan for the first phase High level business case, containing the estimated costs and the Environmental and TCO savings 5 IBM Green Data Center Approach

7 Scenarios Quick Scan Assessment The scenarios are predefined roadmaps based on the knowledge and experience of IBM and in a specific and unique order Site Optimisation Info Optimisation IT optimisation There are currently three scenarios: Site optimization, based on the assessment that implementing cooling solutions and site related energy saving solutions have to be done before other solutions Information optimization, based on the assessment that the first quick results will be reached by managing the unstructured information (e.g. store more information off-line) before other solutions will be implemented IT optimization, based on the assessment that the workload of servers and utilization of disks have to be improved as first step The scenarios contain in principle the same products and services but in a different order Based on experience During the assessment phase the scenario will be turned into the roadmap for the customer, fitting their specific situation, issues and requirements 7 IBM Green Data Center Approach
