3 EASOS: PROGRAMME AIMS To assist Malaysia in improving the social and economic prospects of the country by making it more environmentally resilient. To provide informed and coordinated decision making capability to Government Agencies in Malaysia through an integrated user-centred dashboard and a scalable platform Initially delivering information and analysis on three environmental challenges. Reduce the degradation to the mangrove coastline in Malaysia by reducing marine pollution in the Malacca Straits. Reduce the social and environmental impact of illegal logging and increase the economic benefit from legal logging for Malaysia. Reduce the economic and social cost of flood events. 3

Data fusion from satellite and terrestrial sources Automation, intelligent modelling and ability to learn Scalable system to cover large geographies and new applications Common, easy to use dashboard for alerts and display of data Data is securely handled and access to users centrally controlled 5

7 Marine Watch Satellite images are automatically processed to detect oil slicks Potential slicks can be highlighted on the map for ease of location Slick dispersion is modelled and can be viewed over time Ships detected by satellite can be identified. Future releases will cross-reference with AIS data to highlight suspicious activity 7

9 Marine Watch Benefits Reduce the financial impact of marine pollution by at least 10% across regions covered by the project Improve the detection rate of marine pollution events Help relieve loss of habitat, coastal erosion, species extinction and depletion of fish stocks by preventing ships from pumping their bilges in the Malacca Straits Help Coastguard assets track where oil slicks derived from and predict end points to intercept offenders 9
