3 IT Leadership Council The University of California Information Technology Leadership Council (ITLC) is an organization of chief information officers (CIOs) and other senior information technology (IT) leaders from the UC campuses, Office of the President, medical centers, and UC managed national laboratories. The ITLC works in partnership with the UC leadership to articulate goals, strategies, and priorities for investment in and deployment of technology based solutions that support the University's missions of teaching, research, public service, and patient care. While respecting the essential independence of UC institutions, the ITLC seeks opportunities to address common IT challenges and to advance the collective IT priorities of its constituent organizations. 7 Current Initiatives UCLA Financial Systems Replacement Project Review and assessment of as is processes nearly complete Reviews of potential policy / procedure changes, process reengineering opportunities and current data integrity are in progress Scope of UCLA Medical Enterprise implementation is being assessed Next steps include: Scan of commercial (Oracle, PeopleSoft and SAP) and open source (Kuali) solutions Development of UCLA requirements document Estimation of implementation cost and benefits; risk assessment Scope of Analysis General Accounting Budget Management Asset Management Procure to Pay Grants Management Accounts Receivable Approval Process Access Management Partially In Scope Personnel / Payroll System (integration with system wide solution) 7
8 Current Initiatives Data Center and Infrastructure Services Project Mediation, improvement and reconfiguration of the main campus data center (MSA) to create additional capacity and improve energy efficiency Survey of other campus data center and server room space to support planning and consolidation Operating model for planning and delivering IT infrastructure services for research, academic and administrative computing Survey of IT infrastructure strategy and practices at other major research universities Development of core campus IT infrastructure services collocation, virtual server platform, high performance computing, storage, backup, disaster recovery, systems and database administration, collaboration, desktop and security services The goal is to achieve greater value from campus IT by simultaneously improving the effectiveness of IT infrastructure while lowering the cost to provide and operate that infrastructure 8
